Although I keep adding stuff to the list, this is pretty near final. I'll add three more projects to make a 150 total. Here's the list below of what's what.
Quick facts:
- All of the "old" projects have been re-designed with new layouts that conform to one standard/parts library, etc.
- There are many new projects which have not yet been verified. I will have time to verify some of them, but not all.
- Some of these projects will become regular MBP store products. Some will likely be available from Haberdasher. Some may been available through OSH Park. And, some may not be available through any means but etching your own. I do not know which is which yet, so please don't ask until I get further along the process.
- All of these projects will get brand new documentation, which is obviously gonna take some time. But, it will be standardized (finally).
There is enough here to keep you busy for YEARS.
Anyway, the projects will be available to coincide with a website re-design. I hope to have all this ready to go by the end of Jan. or beginning of Feb. There's a lot left to do, but I've already completed the hardest part, which is doing these layouts (well about 95% are done at least). So, have faith!
The list.

It's a copy of the production board.
You seriously want to drill all those holes and have that (and have to etch that) massive board?
I'd wait for Beans layout man... plus it needed some touching up anyway.
And it really isn't worth all that effort IMO.

I've use photosensitive boards many times and you don't really need a chamber, a fluorescent light in a dark room can give you very good results (I used to make pcbs in my kitchen..)

Hey where do you guys get your copper clad from? I've been trying a few different suppliers lately- I found a guy on Ebay with red board (which excited me because who doesn't want colored PCBs), however the stuff was barely thicker than a few pages of newspaper and the traces come off rather easily.I've had success with steve's fr4 over at SB, and I just tried tayda's with decent results. Any other ideas/suppliers come to mind?

I've been getting mine from abcfab on Ebay. It's thinner than Smallbears but I haven't had any problems with it. He sells different colors.

I use MG Chemicals presensitized boards which i can get locally or if ordering from Digikey, from them. If i'm in Toronto i can get Kinsten presensitized boards which are also available on ebay from various far east sellers but at no real cost advantage. The ones i did get from Asia however used a nice translucent white/green substrate as opposed to the gross brown/green crud colour of every other presensitized board i've ever purchased.

any news on the files release?
I know you're probably busy as hell with function-fx starting besides other things, nevertheless I wanted to ask if there's an update on when we can begin the etching madness.
Sorry, I'm just too impatient to wait for it...
I'll start on the website re-design beginning in April. That should take a week. Another week or so to get the documentation together on the etching projects. Probably, I will release them in 2 or 3 batches over the course of a few weeks. So, end of April.
So, I have a month to finally get my etching s*it together! I've been putting off starting etching again for years but this is a monumental kick in the bee-hind so really, I have no more excuses.
Mad propz to you for setting this up, B.!
Awesome. Thanks for the heads up
Wow just saw this. Thank you Brian!!!!
any update on this??
oh. my. god.
I can't even begin to describe how much this project, nay, this GODSEND, will mean to me. madbean, you little genious, you!
there's nearly everything I could ask for in it! it's only missing the Zero Point delays (but I have a feeling the YubDub will be just as good as a project), the Pearl Octaver (I can live without it though), the vintage Fuzz Face (but there's TONS of other fuzzes I can totally work with there), the ehx and mxr flangers (this is a bit of a letdown but I already have a nice electric mistress layout so I can't complain) and the Phase 90 (but there's plenty of layouts for this plus there's the phase 45 in here)!
thinking about the etchers is such a nice thing to do... oh god, I'm dropping some massive spaghetti, am I not?
I have some questions:
1) when is all this going to be released to the public? (I bet you saw this question coming ahah)
2) is the Boneyard (Carl Martin Plexitone) going to be the 3 channel version (boost, crunch and hi-gain)?
3) will you add any other Paul C. inspired effects to this, given you included a FatBastard clone?
4) will all the old files still be available?
Looking forward to it! (and looking forward to an answer as well ahah)
I'm excited about this and anxiously waiting !

You might etch them all if you are super motivated, but I doubt anyone could ever build them all. At least, it would take a couple of years. Shoot, I probably could offer an award for the first person to
successfully build them all!
Anyway, I have a lot on my plate for the remainder of July but I will start getting these up in August. I think I will do them in piecemeal...maybe one category at a time. The build docs alone will take some 150-200 hours to write I'm estimating.
If there is that much, you could put the collection together and make a book out of it.
I'd buy it.

That's actually not a terrible idea. If there were a bean bible available with all of the build docs I'd also be in. Just to have the schematics etc... I already have a functional equivalent of my own in a binder with plastic protectors but an official version would be killer. I think it's relatively easy to put one's book out on amazon, however I don't know what their terms are, i.e. we'll print your book but all your pdfs are belong to us...

+1 on the Bean Bible. What a marvelous idea. I'd buy that. Perhaps a special appendix of PnP transfers. In book form as well there would be less pressure to create updated layouts year by year. ;D

Hey quick question... since a lot of these projects already have older build docs, and it's the build docs and layouts that are being updated, but not the circuits themselves, that means I can start putting together a shopping list from the current BOMs available, right? I mean, the resistors and caps and ICs aren't changing are they?
Brian, its gonna be crazy all the docs, but can i ask for the solder mask??, for those as me, that use soldermask with the etched boards its a great thing, specially if the boeards are tight..
i really waiting of the stuff

Yes and no. A few projects have been expanded beyond their previous versions which may include some new parts. But, the majority of them do not have any radical circuit changes. One thing that is different is that nearly every project now uses the 1N5817 polarity protection diode instead of the 1N4001 to ground method that the old ones did. I tried to make the projects very consistent with each other in terms of PS filtering and how the layouts are arranged. In any case, it is a safe bet that if you are using previous projects as a guide on BOM that it will be fine.

im in to verify some boards, i can etch at home really well
How are we looking for some stuff to etch? I'm doing a small batch this week, but would love some newer options.
No rush/pressure, just an inquiry.
hi Brian
Any news on this?
Thanks
Obviously, this is ridiculously overdue. It's embarrassing, even. But, this whole year has been pretty intense (my buddies pickdropper and Culturejam know all too well). Once I get over this "hump" of getting the store replenished over the next several weeks, I am going to buckle down on the layouts. It's a big project because it also involves re-doing the website...which is probably why I have procrastinated on it so much. But, I have not forgotten!

I am a mad etcher who just received a CriCut Explore (new model that allows SVG files AND has a pen holder!)
and I have already downloaded a ton of projects from here, so please do put this out there but
thanks a whole lot for what you ALREADY have available.
Anyone else use a Cricut for pcb production?
I have some extra fine industrial sharpies on order that I think will fit with a simple sand/lathe of the pen body a bit.
Seek to draw directly on pcb, always had no problems with industrial sharpies and ferric chloride.
Makes etching a simple deal: draw, etch, drill.
Could even have the Cricut do the overlay on the other side, vinyl for box etching, painting, etc.
So again, thanks for making the amount of info you already have available, if you do as this thread says you will have the largest collection of fine arse effects projects for a mad etcher anywhere on the internut!
Oh no!
The last post is now dated 2014
Those that mean that this gives Mad another 2 years to get this done?

Haha, not at all. In fact I think the first batch will be going up sometime this weekend.
....wooweeeee!!!!
Great news. Planning on etching the SubCommander from MFOS this weekend.

So the acid bath will be all setup and ready to etch.
Good! Each project file will have the project doc and both the drill and PNP files in Photoshop format. So, if you want to etch multiple boards at once you can pull up the separate image files into one master sheet. Should make things easy. I do have to build the webpage for it but I think that will only take an afternoon.
May I sugest backing everything up after. ;)
Cool. I just picked up a cheapo band saw to neatly cut multiple boards from a single etch.

I put a metal cutting blade on my bandsaw when cutting PCB. Finer tooths = neater cuts.
Is there an easy way to drill the boards? That's the only reason I haven't experimented with etching.

Yes, there is. But, it depends on how much you want to invest. The most efficient way is using a Dremel and the drill press attachment they make for it. That and some carbide bits are all you need to make very high quality DIY boards. When I do the tutorial, I will go over exactly which tools I use. I've used this stuff to make thousands of boards!
Just grabbed some etcher's paradise Zip files. Thanks madbean!!!
