Worst of times to place an order with them really, as enclosed stereo jacks, 1590BB enclosures, SPDT on/on toggle switches and DPDT stomp switches are all out of stock. Bloody essentials basically. You'd think that they would have these in stock before offering another code.
The codes don't count towards enclosures afaik. But you would think they would restock before issuing a new code. I mean there is stuff on there they have been out of for what seems like months.
Most of the hardware I plan on grabbing at blms though. That way I don't have to wait as long to get the stuff. ;)

I don't have a Facebook account, since I am not a product. Tayda used to email the codes, but (stupidly) decided to tie them to their social media presence. Lame.
Facebook likes to force you to visit their site, which I choose not to do.
There is a little hidden, undocumented feature of Facebook, though, that lets you build an RSS feed of whatever they call someone's latest posts. Here is the one I built for the Tayda feed: http://www.facebook.com/feeds/page.php?format=atom10&id=149197868487201
Pop that baby into an RSS reader, or use it as a live bookmark for auto-updating.

Speaking of Tayda are their ICs and transistors good to go? On some of them the 1 unit price half the 10-100 unit price of Mouser/Smallbear.
I would suggest paying the extra and picking up those items from mouser or smallbear. Tayda is known to have fake jfets. I did get ic's from them when I first started building and haven't had any problems with them however I would rather dish out the few cents more the first time for known legitimate chips and trannies. I buy pots, resistors, caps, and sockets from tayda for personal use, but only because I haven't had the money to reach the the price breaks on all of the values I need.

Package was on my desk when I came in this morning (Monday morning)...How longs a plane flight from Thailand to Australia...12 hours maybe? Pack the order, customs, drive it to my door...etc...

Doesn't the extra cost of express shipping eat up any of the savings you make by ordering from Tayda instead of locally? Or add to any customs charges?
No customs charges. The sort of volume i order makes express shipping CHEAPER (believe it or not). I think it happens over $100. Well, it does to Melbourne Australia anyway...

I use google sheets to make a tab of all the parts I want for an order. That helps keep me organized so I don't forget something or buy a part I already have. It also makes it a bit easier to refill your cart.

I do something similar in excel, although mine is a little different. I've basically put Tayda's entire inventory that I might order in there, together with costs, then all I have to do is fill in what and how many parts I'm going to order and not only can I remake my shopping car, I also know how much it will cost me. By now it has shopping carts for dozens of pedals I'm planning to build.

Do you guys get your electrolytic caps from Tayda, or is it best to get those from elsewhere? I've read conflicting reviews. I'm gonna order resistors, caps, and pots, butt I'm iffy on the electros.
I do, no issues as of yet, I've heard of issues with them being out of spec here and there.

I've had bad experiences with the tayda 'Chong' electros... leaking fluid. Threw all mine out. Electro caps are always a potential weak link in your circuit with a shorter lifespan than many electronic parts, I don't like going cheap with them.

try to keep your orders small. Maybe even split them up to avoid the import taxes. Shipping prices are low, so it will likely still be cheap.
I always split my orders up just for that very reason. I learned that the hard way when I ordered 10 125B boxes at once. Better to pay an extra $8 on shipping then a multitude of that in Euros in customs duties.
So how much would be the max to pass under the custom's radar, in your experience?
I haven't been hit with customs yet on any tayda order. I think my largest in the U.K. Has been £120 yet we can only import £15 including delivery before taxes. I've been very lucky so far. On the customs declaration tayda have been very naughty and put £15 each time. It's only a matter of time now but I've gotten so many orders tax free I won't be too upset when I get a vat bill for one of them.

I'm sure customs can check it out if they want to, but the manpower hours alone to find out how much each part costs will cost them more then they can make. Now if you order a bigger quantity Tayda can't use their nice brown bubble wrapped envelopes anymore. Bigger box means they have to state a bigger value, and that might put you past what you can import duty free. Which in the Netherlands is €25. Which means easy money for little work for those poor overworked customs officials.

My other half ordered a t-shirt from the states for me 6 months ago which came to £15.95 and I got a customs bill of around £9. It was just over £8 for admin fees and 19 pence for tax!

Sometimes I think the reason civil servants need so much time is because they still chisel into stone tablets. You pay taxes to pay for the civil servant's salary, and then you have to pay again for them to do any work. Admin fees, they're like the government version of hidden surcharges when it comes to book a holiday or plane ticket. You never get those for the advertised price either.

When I lived in Germany (and worked, but didn't collect a single cent in wages in country, nor was I entitled to any of the social benefits) I got away with all but one Tayda order, they nailed me on the last one before I left the country. Fortunately for me they somehow put the invoice through to our Corporate Customs Broker and low and behold the guy who approved the customs invoices was me.
That being said what drove my abso-freaking-lutely bonkers was when I got charged import fees on a guitar I had shipped from the States (cause I couldn't find a decent priced tele), the also charged me import fees on the cost of shipping the guitar. That cut it for me. I get that I have to pay on the value of the guitar, but to pay on the shipping, 95% of which happened out of country, is robbery.

I know that exact same feeling! >:( That's the biggest reason why I avoid ordering stuff from the US. It's bad enough that American shipping costs are astronomical, but knowing that you will be taxed over those shipping costs.....

Tayda's DHL from Thailand gets to me faster than Smallbear in the USA or Thonk in the UK. Thai couriers are fast.
For some reason I assumed all tayda orders came from thailand. There is always a 3-4 day wait and then the package is in colorado on its way. Do they really have a warehouse in colorado?? Either way, Tayda has always showed up faster than any US supplier I've ordered from and I'm in the midwest.

Maybe that's what's been happening with my orders all this time. I always wondered why it took 3-4 days before would start showing tracking info.
In any case, I've always had good service and good shipping times from Tayda.
I live in England and used to receive tayda orders in 7 days now though it's taking anything up to 3 weeks to arrive and I'm not sure why. I'd blame it on customs but I haven't been charged for any of my orders yet.
Well, my concerns were completely unfounded. UPS just delivered my Tayda order. This order arrived quicker than any
other order I've put in with them. One difference I noted is that the package was shipped by UPS. All my other Tayda packages
came from USPS. ( or DHL ) I also noticed that when I placed the order and selected a shipping option. ( USPS wasn't an option for some reason )
I guess it was the size or part selection of the order.
The package arrived at the same time as a Mouser order that I put in on the same day. ( 12/6 ) Highly satisfied with both companies.
Now I've just got to get to work on that backlog ! :)

Tayda is great imo. I usually get it in 7 days to Australia, never more than 14.
Futurlec on the other hand... I placed an order in August that I'm still waiting for. I did get an email in October saying that besides two parts, my order was ready - did I want to wait, or just send what they had and refund the difference? I told them it was so long ago that I couldn't remember what the order actually was and to just send it and refund the difference.

Just got my latest order from Tayda today - it took 9 days to arrive in Australia, which is pretty good.
Weird thing is that it came via Germany. Not sure why they would ship from Germany to Australia, rather than Thailand to Australia?
Maybe Australia being in Eurovision has made them think we're in Europe now?

I had the same issue. "Only 2 items are missing". I had ordered 3. It's a pain in the butt to say the least. Not only do they not inform you in time, but actually declare items "in stock" when they aren't as futurlec is basically only a middle-man going shopping elsewhere for the advertised goods. They ended up sending me stereo pots/faders, which obviously didn't fit my pcb layout and pin out, despite me saying I'll wait for the correct mono pots. Just to make it up, they cancelled the other missing item without checking with me since the stereo pot (again, which I didn't order) was more expensive than the item I actually ordered and paid for.
Once, and never again!

It's a shame that Futurlec service has gotten so poor. I was really happy a long time ago when I was stocking up and got some of their value packs.
The shipping time has always been too long. I haven't ordered from them in well over a year. Much better service and shipping from Tayda.

I buy SPDT toggle switches from Tayda, those standard. DPDT instead from somewhere else because I found them cheaper, but those are pretty the same, just blue.

They've improved the quality of their resistors. On my recent order, I ordered a bunch of metal film, and the leads are not as flimsy.
The color of the blue is darker. Same low price as before; 1.2 cents per.
I noticed that in my last order, almost one years ago, just one package of resistors.
Sometime I used the thin leads of those resistors to join the jumpers in one hole in some veroboard layout. With thicker lead it will be a harder.
Anyway, I have a little bags with a bunch of old leads. ;)
You can put thin resistor leads into via's, usually :)
I never understood the complaints about Tayda's thinner leads. I find them easy to work with, they bend way more easy and make for good jumpers on vero boards. Love those thinner leads!

Only complaint I've ever had with them is they don't work well with sockets if you want to play around with values. That's pretty much it for me.

Yeah thats the main complaint i have as well. Also using for links offboard, they tend to break. I prefer thicker leads personally, but i can see both sides.

And yes, I admit that was a problem. I used to tin a bit the leads to create a thin thick to help the resistor to stuck in the socket.

I think in all the time I've been using them I had two or three break on me. Which seems to be about the same as my experience with resistors with thicker leads. Which can often be a real bitch to desolder from a PCB as the thicker leads often cause them to jam while desoldering.
