Title: 10 years!
Post by: madbean on December 16, 2014, 02:20:05 AM
I just remembered---my DIY journey began 10 years ago +2 days. I registered at DIYSB on Dec.13 2004 before building my first pedal. Man, it has gone quick! Looking back, I do feel some pride in what I have been able to accomplish in that time starting with knowing nothing at all about electronics or pedals. I still have a long way to go as far as learning the electronics, but I think I could design and build just about any analog pedal now. But really, the biggest thanks goes to DIYSB because I do not think I would have gotten started without it. And, the internet haha! So, thanks to Aron. And Tonepad, GGG, ROG, AMZ, FSB, and GEOFEX. Such amazing resources available to everyone for the cost of a internet connection. We are all truly are blessed with limitless knowledge these days.

Congratulations!  I, too, am really grateful for the generous dispensing of knowledge around these parts.  I know I would never have attempted this hobby if I was on my own; you guys make it not only possible, but really fun and inspiring!  Thank you!

+1, it starts with "just a Rangemaster", then it's on to the Dr Boogies, then Lovetone, next thing you know you're building synths...

Congrats Brian!
I know if it wasn't for you I probably wouldn't have given pedal building a second look. And I am pretty sure I am not the only one.
You have created such a pleasant community in those 10 years and I am proud to be a member.
Here's to another 10 years!!!

Inspired me to have a look when I started on all this, I think I started a bit before joining freestompboxes so about 6 years, damn! Wonder where i'll be when I reach the big 10.

I still remember looking up to you back in the ol' FSB days when I was still a teenager :)

Yep, there's a post about Barber's Smallfry I have to ask some questions to Brian about... :)

By the way, when you said teenager something like this came to mind(I know this one is Scruffy, not Scruffie, but I always imagine you like him  ;D):

Seconded.
Epic Anniversary! It's been such an inspiration being on this forum between seeing all the people that have turned a hobby into a business, the creativity in circuit design, and all the excellent builds posted here. Thanks for fostering such a great community.

Well, you both have me beat by many many years.  Hehe.  I just hit three years.  It's been a ton of fun and Madbean and BYOC are the two main reasons why I had so much fun and kept at it.

Congrats, Brian.

If you lose the hat, moustache, baldness & gut it's pretty much me! :P Always wear my Brian T-Shirt on a Thursday.

Congrats Brian. I think one of the greatest forms of accomplishment is watching "students" of yours learn from you and then go on to become fantastic circuit designers themselves.  There are so many awesome projects in the Members Projects and Tutorial section.  That whole section was really inspired by you.  I also am looking forward to the day I can add my own project into that section. Thank you.

Congrats!

I have to say, I have been on this forum for about a year and this place is the absolute best forum I belong to. This includes even non pedal related forums as well.

Two Thumbs up to You and this Community!!

That's awesome Brian, I had no idea you had only been at this for 10 years. Your knowledge and ability had led me to believe you were born with an iron in one hand and a bottle of ferric-chloride in another. A big thanks to you for everything you do for this community.

Yep, congrats and thx!
Just like Dave, it was BYOC, Madbean and...CJ that taught me almost everything- and made me into the obsessive, but happy builder I am. :)
Free access to the internet is vital, and wonderful. Let's all fight to keep it that way.  8)
