Title: RE-2399 (Sagan Delay)! - Demo added
Post by: Martan on February 16, 2016, 08:10:59 PM
Hello all,

I proudly present Chris Carter's (Diablochris) excellent Sagan delay boxed with a 1776 rub-a-dub deluxe and MPLEX mod board for chorus:

Was going for a Space Echo ascetic, and even found a Roland-esque font and tried to cop the layout feel of the old units. I made the delay and reverb footswitchable, in addition to the reverb assign switch. There are kill switches for the dry signal in the delay section, and in the reverb section. The modulation is toggled on and off, with a rate/indicator light activated by the toggle.

I started this back in the summer (2015) and kept hitting snags that tabled it over and over. With this and a couple of other builds failing at once, I stopped building for a few months. After building a Total Recall for a friend for Xmas I decided to give it another go. Very glad that I did, because this is a great circuit! I should have a demo video done this week, but I doubt I can fit in all of the features ;D

Blood and guts:

I don't know what I was thinking. Will certainly plan a little better with the lessons from this one. Could have used a bigger box, though I like this form factor. There's a couple of glory holes in the back where I completely botched the jack placement (any ideas on a patch?). Believe it or not I can get the back cover closed up :)

Many thanks to Chris (DiabloChris) and 1776 effects, Mr. Madbean, and BillStein for his duo-tone faceplate tutorial (which I fear was lost in the crash :'()

Bug Chris for boards and build this circuit (and all of the Madbean projects, of course)! You won't regret it.

Finally, a family shot of the three pedals I've built using Bill's technique (Dirtbaby and Arcadiator).

Demo added!

Thanks,

Dang! This is some great stuff. I've been waiting for you to get this thing together ever since you showed me your design of the face plate. It looks like it should be a control panel for a spaceship. It could be rad if you could fit some domed Fresnel lenses in those holes. Even if you didn't put LEDs in them, it could add a little charm. Maybe a small handle could go there?
It doesn't really matter what you put there, this is still a phenomenal build.

That is crazy awesome. Great large build. It really is a great sounding delay circuit. I have a proto board populated but never got around to boxing it due to its size and my lack of planning. Great job man!

Insanely beautiful and adventurous! Bravo sir!
And bravo to Chris Carter for creating such a fantastic circuit (more more more demos please), the only thing I don't appreciate mister Carter is how much you screwed X files man... I mean dawg...why?

:D

That is a wonderful build! It has so much cool stuff going on. ;D You could use inlet rubbers for the extra holes. Something like these: http://s4.photobucket.com/user/emalikyltti/media/yb11.jpg.html I don't know if that's the right term for them though. ::)

Or something like like this?

Not sure in  what size you can get them?

Wow, that is great looking. The design and the choice of effects go great together. I'd love to hear that thing.

Thanks everyone for the kind words! I am setting up for a video demo, but with this one I want to do sound through my DAW and sync it to the video so its decent quality. May take some extra time.

This is pretty intriguing. I almost want to do a series of builds with obscure coins embedded in them: like a buffalo head fuzz and a walking liberty chorus...

:D

I wouldn't say I destroyed the X-Files franchise...

I think that it's hard to resurrect a pre-9/11 show involving skepticism and shady government dealings to a post-9/11 audience. The dialogue and chemistry between the characters is still there, the dark humor is still there, but the audience has become much more cynical and distrusting of regular people rather than aliens.

I still enjoy this run.

Finally made a demo for the Sagan. Its a bit long winded, but there's a lot to cover. Also, be kind, I am not a professional videologist ;)

This and the Triton delay from Culturejam are in my next queue of pedals to build.  This video makes me really excited for this one!

That's a really nice demo, Marty. You showed off the pedal well. If this video gets widespread attention, I might have to order more boards! :o

Awesome!

Here's the photoshop file (dropbox link) if you want for spacing. Font is Eurostile (google search will find it for free). Fair warning that I'm not a photoshop expert and my layer organizing reflects that ;)
