Title: Upcoming releases for July and August
Post by: madbean on June 21, 2017, 02:03:37 PM
I've updated the Projects Page with the following information:

The next batch of restocks will come the 1st or 2nd week of July. This will include the Aquaboy and Kingslayer (and a couple others that are about to go out of stock). The new project will be the Mandroid, which is the MBP take on the Hazelwanter Pitch Shifter/DBA Robot. Also, there will be another batch of the Pale Horse and AlphaDogs available at the same time.

August will have at least two new releases: the Supering and the Wumpus. The Supering is a "deluxe" version of the Moodring...it's a mash-up of the Moodring and Ping circuits. The Wumpus is a probe-type controller with on-board wah and volume effects (with additional outputs to control other effects).

Somewhere in-between the July and August relreases will be the release of the next VFE project which is the Choral Reef (chorus). I plan to have at least one more VFE project released in August...maybe two.

I don't have any new info on any other releases ATM.

I didn't realize the DBA Robot was not an original design. Looking forward to having all kinds of chaotic fun with this one.

Looking forward to the Mandroid and Wumpus (and perhaps they can be combined for total whackiness  :o).

Now Available:
New Release: Mandroid "Pitch Shifter"! Re-stocks: Alpha Dog, Pale Horse, Aquaboy, Mudbunny, Current Lover, Naughty Fish, Runt and Kingslayer.

Note on the Alpha Dog and Pale Horse:
I've made a temporary measure on ordering these which is price adjustments to account for the required 1st Class postage on Canadian an International orders. This is on top of the normal "Flats" shipping fee. It mostly works out (I'll eat a couple dollars on shipping here and there but no big deal). In some cases, if you are ordering multiple items along with the Pale Horse or Alpha Dog your shipping fee may come out high. No worries, I will refund any unused postage when I ship your order. This is only temporary until I get the new store going.

Also, there are 25 of each available in this batch of VFE. Once they are gone I will have more to put up but they will no longer include the W1MC pot. I only have enough to cover 50 orders. Unfortunately, getting more of those pots looks to require 1000 order minimum which is not feasible for me. No worries, though - a regular 1MB pot will work in these builds. The difference is the W1MC has a center dentent and the taper is slightly different. A 1MB pot will still get all the same tones...just in slightly different spots. I will update the docs once the current batch of AD and PH boards are sold.

Let me know if anyone has questions.

One final adjustment - I deducted a penny on the international prices of the AD and PH makes the shipping work out better for customers. Maths.

I know you're super busy but would there be anyway you could post the build doc for the Coral Reef or at least a parts list?  Would like to see what I need to collect before you release it.

Can't wait to get my Alpha Dog next week.  I found some NOS LM308 cans while I was up in Dalllas last weekend seeing 3rd Eye Blind.  If it's anything like the Pale Horse it will be an awesome build and I will get the relay oriented right this time.

It's a great sounding pedal and you can really adjust it to just about anything you're looking for.

This is the best I can do until I get a build doc typed up. But, it gives you a list of everything you need (except for the regular parts you need on the switching board). On the 10uF BP - smallbear has them but they are too large. I got mine from Mouser.

One more update: I'm knee deep in shipping orders ATM. I should be done tomorrow and at that point I will work on getting the demo done for the Mandroid. My build will have pretty much all the options on it so I hope I can give you guys a good sense of what you can do with it. Just need to etch up my faceplate and get it in a box first.

Not really sure what that means....I'm just a southern boy after all.

Finished Mandroid. Demo should be up in a day or two. I used an old momentary toggle switch I bought from Frys years ago for my ROB/VIB switch. It's aactually (off) ON (off) so I just wired ground to the two outside positions.

Quick question on the rob/vin switch.  It looks like on the build doc that you only need one of them, or do you need both?

Only one and connected to the VIB pad and GND. On power up, the HT8950 defaults to ROB mode and the momentary switch will change it to VIB mode. Press it again and it goes back to ROB mode and so on. On that momentary toggle I used, I connected the VIB pad to the middle lug and ground to the two outside lugs (just so I could push the switch either way to toggle between the two modes)..but that was a special case just for that particular switch. A regular pushbutton only has two contact points.

Not mentioned in the build doc, but am I correct in assuming that the external input can also be used to connect the tapanatorator? All in all, it is just driving an LED ...

I hooked it up to the Tapanator early on and honestly it didn't do a whole lot for me. However, I did make some changes to the Mandroid after that. I'll check that out this week and report back. I probably need to just spend a little more time dialing it in.

The Choral Reef will be out this week...probably in a couple of days. I'll put more Alpha Dog and Pale Horse up at the same time. The next VFE project will be the Merman and it will come out a week or so after that.

Out of curiosity, is the Supering still on track a release this month? I'm in the mood for some ethereal spacey goodness and it's intrigued me since last August.

I think it will be the first week of September. As is the case with 9/10 prototypes, just as I am about to finalize the design I think of something to add or a better way to do a thing. So, I'm going to run one more proto of it before finalizing. I'm improving the Dwell (feedback) control and I'm adding the ability to swell the reverb or feedback with a momentary switch. Plus maybe one other option for fun and games.

It's a bit disturbing isn't it?  I might actually bypass this one.  I'm thinking my Final Phase (yet to get bumped off my board despite being the size of a box of granola bars) may indeed be my final phase.

Aw geez, who am I kidding...

Still the FP makes what little hair I have left stand on end every time I punch it.

funny enough the phase 90 is one flavor of phaser I've never bothered with (My boss ph-3 emulates 4 stage really well, and I hate jfet matching). Maybe this one will actually push me over the edge of just accepting the inevitable.

Out of curiosity, just in case (of course), what flavor of JFET does the Tractor beam use? 5952s? J201s? 5485s? Unicorn scented 2n4303s?

No reason, not building a shopping list or anything... I swear I can stop anytime I want...

Who are you trying to fool?  ;D  I  said I wasn't going to get but 1 VFE board and now I have 3.  And of course I have several Phasers I built and really don't use them much but I got to have a Tractor Beam.  I do real good for about 3 days then I have to (have a fix) buy something.  I think 80% of the people on here are affected by PAS.  PEdal Addiction Syndrome.

Speaking of which: my pedals are all working right now so i got a feeling i'm falling into a big black hole.....

Anybody got some tips? I made a treble booster, the Arcadiator and Into the Unknown. Next one will be the Mandroid and i'm not looking for tubescreamers etc. I like the ones that do something different

It will require four matched 2n5952. It also uses three resistor networks to save some space on the board. I'm waiting on a few parts myself!
