Title: Dandy Horse - 22uF Cap Question
Post by: Bio77 on June 08, 2018, 03:51:49 PM
Was wondering:

I have some nice audio caps (50V nichicon KW(M)) but they are all on the high end of spec ~26uF.

I also have some low leakage caps (25V nichicon KL(M)), they are all pretty close to spec ~23uF.

Which should I use?

Sorry if this seems crazy.  I'm pretty excited about this build and I want it to be as good as I can get it.  Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there

C50 is in the power section, while c36 & 37 are in the LFO, so they probably wouldn't be critical to making it sound any better.
I guess if the audio caps are low esr that might be nice for c50, but honestly, I wouldn't worry about it much.  FWIW, 26uF is still in spec for a 20% tolerance 22uF cap, so nothing to worry about.
Not a very exciting answer, I know, but Nichicon makes good caps and any of those should do the job. ;)

Keefe's got it quite right and let me put it to you this way, a lot of vintage EHX pedals I've taken cap readings from have been nearly 50% out of spec with drift and still sounding good.

Thanks.  I appreciate it.

Dandy Horse is a big build, I didn't want to make a mistake so close to finishing.
