Title: 2N2484 transistor equivalent?

Any of you guys have recommendations for 2N2484 transistor equivalents that I could use in a Way Huge Pork Loin build?
The originals seem expensive and hard to come by...

2N2484's are still in production, or at the very least still available from major commercial sites. Granted, ~2$ a pop is a bit high for a BJT, but it is an option from Mouser or Arrow if you wish.

That said, it looks to be a fairly standard ~low gain part, so perhaps some 2n3904s would be functionally similar.

Cheers, yes I would hope some other part at hand would be functionally similar, I do have some 2n3904 kicking around.
How would 2n2222A compare?
Transistor data sheets usually confuse me, which parameters on ther would be most important to compare to our uses in stompbox audio? Any hints?

For BJTs its pretty much Gain (Hfe) that we look at (and making sure you want NPN or PNP). Yeah datasheets can be a bit odd since gain is a function of current, and current will depend on the circuit, and where the part is in the circuit. (There can also be minor tonal differences between transistors given a thousand other factors, but gain range is pretty much the "big" thing)

the 2N2222 looks pretty similar, though built for somewhat higher current. The 3904 is built to handle about 200mA constant current. The 2484 was built for around 50mA. The 2222 can take 800mA+. (its a bit more complex than that though since their gain is something of a curve, varying depending on the current they see)

In most circuits that I can think of off the top of my head, individual transistors typically "see" less than 10mA.

So, you'd be sorta under-running the 2222. Might lower its gain somewhat, but it would work. I tend to go with 3904s when I need low-gain, since I have a whole box of them, but other options would work.
