Title: Tragedy at home
Post by: madbean on November 03, 2019, 05:05:50 AM
Last night our elderly dog, Buckley, fell in our pool and drowned. He was in pretty bad shape already and had a seizure yesterday morning. My wife kept him near all day but he kept stumbling around and falling down steps, etc. We gave him his meds and he seemed okay otherwise. But, in a brief moment of neglect he must have stumbled out the back door and fell in the pool. I cannot even begin to deal with the horror of finding my dog drowned. We've lost lots of animals over the years but never to an accident. And, we had him for 15 years. I'm just thankful that I'm the one that found him to spare my wife and daughter of that image.

Anyway, hug your pets for me today. If you have a moment, post your favorite pic of your pets. It'll make me feel better!

Brian -

I'm so sorry for your loss.   I can't even imagine finding one of my dogs that way.

As requested, here's a picture of one of my boys, "Fox":

Oh man that is so unfortunate, I hope everyone is doing okay. It is hard to lose a family member like that.

Brian, I am sorry for your loss and the associated trauma to you and your family.  I hope that you can find all the comfort and support that you need while you grieve.

This is not a fantastic pic, but it is one that has my guinea pig and my turtle in it (the turtle is the mysterious Nessie-esque shadow in the right half of the tank).  Turtles don't like hugs so much, but I gave the guinea pig a gentle squeeze today.

Sorry to hear Brian. I'm not sure if you'd be surprised, but I've known some people who've needed grief counselling after losing pets. Loss is loss, and when we adopt animals into our family, it's no less a grief process. I pray your family receives comfort in the next while.

Brian,
I am so sorry to hear this. If there is anything I can do let me know. I gave my puppy an extra squeeze for you!
I am personally dealing with the loss of my 12 year old GSD. She passed about a month ago.

It's tough enough having to put down a pet under normal circumstances.  I feel for you brother.

My wife is house sitting for a buddy of hers so it's just me and the new pup for the past week.  I gave him an extra hug, he's a handful.

Be well, you've been under entirely too much stress lately.

That's so sad. Sorry for your loss Brian!

I feel your pain. I lost a dog in 2016, and it was a very difficult time.

Here's a recent picture of my little gang.

Thanks again, guys. The pictures and nice words are helping a lot. I'm just surprised by how much this has flattened me. My wife and I have been together for almost 20 years and this makes the 14th pet we've lost, believe it or not. So, I know the grieving process all too well. I think it's mostly the shock that's new. With all our other fellas it was always obvious it was time to let them go. Disease, lack of quality of life, no meaningful path for improvement, etc. It sucks but you do what's right for them. With Buckely he just kept living and living, haha. Almost never any problems except for these seizures. We were ready for him to go, just not scared, alone and in pain. That's the part that's really screwing with me. I'm a real emotionally stoic bastard but when it comes to my dogs I'll cry my eyes out and I don't care who sees it.

Anyway, I'll be fine. Time really is the key element here. In the meantime, I'm getting back on the ball today.

Oh man so sorry to hear... I'm just back from an extended tour and absence from forum to find this post.
Gut-wrenching stuff. They grow so close and are family, those lovely critters.

I'm sorry Brian, accidents are my worst fear with 7 kiddos now.  There are no words man.  Here's Bud Jr, he just had a brush with death, bad virus (maybe Parvo), but bounced back after a week at the vet:

Oh man, so sorry Brian. Devastating I know.

The pic below was our Natalie for 13 years. The pic was taken on Sept 25 when she was sick and on Sept 29 after 2 days in the vet ER we had to make the call on her due some type of lung infection they couldn't figure out. Typing this right now make my eyes well up and sadness comes over me. I still need more time I guess. Hang in there as like you said time is the only way to lessen the sadness.

That's crushing to hear. Praying for you guys.

Here's a pic of my little guy Lando. He's 8 months and has a minor heart condition but he loves being around people more than anything so it doesn't slow him down.
