Title: The Totally Epic Klon Thread of Awesome About Swearing
Post by: madbean on October 16, 2012, 04:34:07 PM
So, this image popped up a couple of days ago on TGP. It seems to be the real deal. While I do understand the motivation for the "blurb" and totally agree, I gotta say making that the gfx for the pedal is truly baffling. The old Klon is so iconic. This just seems utterly dull and narcissist. Opinions?

This can't be real. The orientation of the text to the pedal would be all wrong. Also, I love the "almost always worse" switch... wait, no... I don't.

it would be funny if he made that the "TGP Special Edition" which sold at a higher price.

It's funny, but it's got to be fake.  Every other image I've seen of it as absolutely no graphics on it.  If it's real, it's marketing suicide.  Unless they're all priced at sub $200 levels, which they won't be.

Post by: madbean on October 16, 2012, 05:37:55 PM
There seems to be some corroboration that this is the actual pedal...but there is always the possibility the image is a hoax.

Originally, it was supposed to have some kind of badge or something on the top. But, the guy handling pre-orders for it said the pedal had some bizarre text on it, and then this image popped up sometime later.

If it is a hoax, it's a good one... having personally spent a good deal of time creating humorous Photoshop edits, I must say that someone really put some time into getting that "Almost always better/worse" lettering to look right.
Title: Re: The new Klon
Post by: midwayfair on October 16, 2012, 05:47:43 PM
It's shopped. It's a good job -- very well aligned and they even got the angling right on the text on the side -- but if you put the picture in another frame, there's pixellation surrounding the text, which is a clear sign of a layer (even flattened) in photoshop.

I'd post something on TGP about it, but the tizzy everyone got into after seeing it was just too funny to spoil it.
Title: Re: The new Klon
Post by: aziltz on October 16, 2012, 05:48:46 PM
the fuzzyness around the lettering makes it look photoshopped.

Yeah, could be.
Title: Re: The new Klon
Post by: saxoftenest on October 16, 2012, 06:02:38 PM
I want to believe that this is fake, both because the message is silly and the orientation is bad (the footswitch way up top, and both input and output on the right?...).

However, just because the text is photoshopped does not mean it's inaccurate. A lot of promo photos are treated this way, where the item is updated with new text, a color is changed, or a part is replaced before a final production model exists for photos. Just look at all the Fender guitar images with strings crossing places they don't belong, etc.

It has to be a hoax, surely. After the magic diodes, the gooping, the denials, etc, etc. Basically he's been a huge part of the hype machine. Indeed I suspect a large proportion of it was him letting it run it's course in order to drive the prices up ever further. The shame was that he was just seemingly failed to exploit it to it's fullest potential. With the way it was before it was traced, he could have named his price and sold it to the highest bidder.

Ah well. I really couldn't give a shit either way. The king is dead, long live the Kingslayer.

Reduction = intensification of unicorn tear influence on tonez!  ;D

Seriously though, has there been any research done comparing through-hole and SMD components in stomp boxes? Considering Bill's comparison demo, I'm hard pressed to make the argument that there's an aural difference. The three Bill demoed sounded more alike than some of my side-by-side comparisons of Klones where I individually measured every component to ensure they were all within a 1% tolerance.

I've heard at least a couple commercial builders assert that component leads = signal loss, thus less overall material the better.

That being said, I too find it nearly impossible to believe that this makes ANY difference at all audibly, and certainly not in a band setting...

I see no (logical) reason why SMT components would sound any different to Through Hole components.

Though I doubt this will stop the TGP'ers etc. from thinking so.

yeah, I can barely hear the difference between diode varieties so I would expect there would be no way I would hear a sonic difference based on the length of leads and solder traces. And personally I would be more interested if it actually did sound different in some way rather than something new that sounded nearly identical to a previous version.

Kinda in the same camp as guitar cable marketing.  I'm not about to say that direction or price DOESN'T make a difference (either because I'm a wus and can't make a stand, or I'm accidentally wrong).  It would be interesting to do an A/B comparison with exactly the same pedal built using SMT and thru-hole.  I'll ticked if SMT sounds better because I have a tough time with those diddly little parts. :-\

It's comedy that he made a rig and swapped every single component one at a time with the SMD counterpart to make sure they sounded the same.

Seriously!?

Other than tolerances in components, a resistor is a resistor. It's mounting method won't make a blind bit of difference. The TL072 in a DIL and in the SMD is the same bit of silicon, just in a different package. Of course it sounds the f**king same. I don't know whether it's for the TGP crowds who lap this shit up. But it does make him sound like an idiot.

Ha ha, I kinda hope its true to be honest.

Can you imagine the thoughts of the guys that have pre-ordered one!

A quick tip; be carefull if using the w*nker word on Brits; its on about the same par as calling someone the C word.

Us Brits have a whole tiered structure of words we like to use to offend someone  ;)!

eg. 'you silly bugar' is a friendly insult, where as 'you stupid w*nker' is a very unfriendly insult  ;D

However, in the Klon guys case, I think you may be right with the latter  :D
Title: Re: The new Klon

Yep, we can use swearwords as terms of endearment. For example we can call our best mate a c**t and it's perfectly acceptable (see the beginning of Shaun of the Dead)... It's all to do with the inference and it's difficult to capture that in text.
Title: Re: The new Klon

Thanks for the insights on British swearing, guys! As a matter of fact, I was trying to be really impolite, as I think what this guy is doing with the new Klon is really preposterous! I'll try to be more carefull in the future! Maybe we can talk about the fine details through PM's, as I'm always eager to learn new stuff and don't want to offend the other forum-users. And you probably need to know that the people that are teaching me at the moment are Brits/Aussies..... Looking forward to your reactions!  ;)

I agree; the Aussies have taken their forebearer Brits love of swearing and have ran with it...

I remember one of my school teachers stories about Aussy humour:

He went to work over in Australia for a year, and popped down to the local pub for a pint.

He ordered his pint of lager, and the barman (with a totally straight face) pulled the pint, went into the kitchen and put the oven on, and put the pint in the oven for a few minutes.

He then removed it, gave it to my teacher, and said 'is that warm enough for you you pommy b*stard'.

My teacher laughed his arse off and after that him and the barman were best pals ha ha  ;D

I think Douche is one of your own from the US... and its a good one so thanks!

Everytime I hear that one, it just makes me think of SouthPark (they love it)  :D.

A Brit equal in terms of offense scale would probably be Tosser. There's another one for you  ;D.

Yeah douche hasn't crossed the pond just yet, but we're exposed to it on such educational programmes as South Park and what have you.

There are other cultural ones that can catch out the American. A fanny in the US for example is your bottom. In the UK a fanny is, errm, a lady's front bottom and a (very, very mild) swear word in reference to it. Indeed we seem to have an awful lot of words for that... (a small selection - naughty hedgehogs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thFjTo6r4gg) - may offend...)

Oh dear god I ended up on TGP again, bored. I had no idea the Klon thread was that big! Based on that the guy has a captive, fawning, rabid, clueless market screaming for him to take their money and he's utterly failing to exploit it.

This though, was the icing on the cake as to why I cannot take the man seriously: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showpost.php?p=12343113&postcount=756

I genuinely LOL'd at that. Really? 3 years to find someone to redesign your own circuit? Isn't this what the DIY community has been doing over and over again. The recent stand-outs being the diddy awesomeness of the Apis and the redesigned ass-kickery of the Kingslayer. If ever there was a successor to the Klon, it's this as it has tangible improvements. His answer: a stock powder coated box,  SMD (it's the future!) and a switchable buffer. Indeed I suspect a lot of it comes down to the fact that had he not pissed off the entire DIY community, he'd have had no problems whatsoever finding someone who could re-design his circuit for him.

Let's get back on to swearing. Much more interesting, and very relevant I feel. As that's what I end up doing at the monitor when I read TGP.

Room temperature, from what I understand. Warm in comparison to other beer. Pers'n'lly I have got a refridgerator and am not afraid to use it.

One surprising American/British difference is teeth -- I take the British viewpoint that Americans smiling is CREEPY. Stop exposing your teeth to me. Pitbulls and tigers do that as a threat.
Title: Re: The new Klon
Post by: juansolo on October 23, 2012, 08:40:06 AM
Ales are drank at room temp or there abouts and come from a wooden cask. If you ask for a beer in an British pub, this is what you'll get. They're usually pulled from proper hand pumps too. Any pub that carries good beer, will likely have a selection from their favoured local breweries. EDIT: here you go (http://www.camra.org.uk/page.php?id=14). As they say, the proper traditional British pub and local brewers are vanishing at an alarming rate. Shame.

If you want what everyone else calls beer, you need to ask the barman for a pint of lager. Usually fizzy, cold mass produced stuff, like pop. Viewed by beer drinkers as such. I like lager and have no issues with this, mainly because it's true.

Personally I prefer the Belgian stuff which is something completely different alltogether.

It's one of those that I just really like the taste of. Not keen on the Trippel, but like the Dubel. I ain't a beer snob by any means, but I know what I like...  I also like the Klon to be fair ;) We were camping at the Spa Classic and just got a load of beers to try. That was my fave out of the selection.

I found a kriek I really like too from Oud Beersel - Oude Kriek. Can't get it here for love nor money and I have serious trouble finding it in Belgium. Got a selection once of Belgian beers and it was in there. Lovely stuff. Where all the other fruit beers tend to be sweet, this had a really morish sour bite to it. Wish I could get some more. I reckon I could do a crate of that stuff in one hit no problem. Tasty. This one: http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/oud-beersel-oude-kriek/10908/

I drink it over here in the US and generally think it is wonderful (oatmeal stout especially), but I would assume it is much better over there.  Youngs is good from time to time as well.

Crikey some of those Belgian beers are... 'tasty'.  A friend bought me a Hoegarrden dark once... tasted like picked compost.  Just sayin  :-\

Not to continue the off-topicness, but I'm a huge Belgian Beer fan myself. My favorites that are easily available where I am are:

Gulden Draak
Rochefort 10
St. Bernardus 10
Delirium Nocturnum
Ommegang Abbey Ale
Ommegang Three Philosophers
Chimay Red
Malheur 12
Leffe
Palm

You, my friend, are what is known as a "connoisseur".... Although personally I prefer the Chimay Bleu (french spelling)

Other favorites:

Duvel
Orval
Brugse tripel

Aww crap, too much to mention!!

Is Samuel Smith consumed at all in the UK, or is that one of the exported UK beers that nobody in the UK drinks?

I drink it over here in the US and generally think it is wonderful (oatmeal stout especially), but I would assume it is much better over there.  Youngs is good from time to time as well.

Not a bitter drinker, but seen it about and is certainly exported

I love a bit of Sammy Smith's.

Timothy Taylor is also another nice UK brewery worth looking out for.

The Chimay with the blue label in the US is called "grande reserve."  I don't know if it is the same as Bleu, but it is wonderful.

You'd get attached to it, then they'd stop brewing it for awhile... release a really expensive bottle or two every now and then.... and then eventually re-release it in an ugly-ass bottle with a dumb quote on it:

Ah, I also don't understand Duvel. The "alcohol taste" of that beer is just too in your face for me.

For those who like bitter beers, you should try Hoppus (http://www.belgianbeercafe.com/beers/hopus?legal&destination=beers/hopus). Perfect for hot summer evenings.

But now that winter is coming, it's brown beers all the way. :)

Btw, if any of you guys would ever end up in Belgium, give me a PM and we'll go for some beers. :)

Nasty shite that. In my youth I made the mistake of once trying Kestrel Super Strength. Dear god it's horrid. I can only imagine how 'special' Special Brew is...

I tend to make it to Belgium at least once a year for our annual run around Spa. Car is very broken at the moment though (wiring loom is completely melted...), need to fix that before planning anything really.

I was being a bit too harsh. I like the flavor of Duvel, but the finish can be a bit hot/alcoholic at times. Especially as a first drink.

And it's cliche, but I really like Orval. Especially one that's been bottled for a couple years. Once it gets a good funk going, it's excellent. But it can't be too far in the bottle, mind you. I once got a bottle old enough that the brettanomyces had broken down too much of the residual maltose it ended up being more like a weird wine.

With "run around Spa" you mean actual running? As I am a runner myself.  :)
I can also really recommend a one day stop in Ghent.

I've never gotten along too well with Duvel or Orval (although I've heard storing one for a few years really does make it great). I think what it comes down to, is that I (like some others here on here ;) ) really like Dubbels.  Duvel is a Belgian Strong Golden Ale, and Orval is a Trappist Ale (which I generally like), but it's of the Belgian Pale Ale style.

When I drink a Belgian beer, I'm expecting it to be strong, and sort of thick with a huge bouquet and almost endless different flavors (think Gulden Draak, which is my favorite).

The Golden Strong Ale, and Belgian Pale Ales are fine if that's what I'm expecting, I just need to know and approach them as such (I didn't even know what they were classified as until I just looked them up).

Ommegang makes a B.P.A. (Belgian Pale Ale), that I really like.

Additionally, I like both Chimay Red and Blue, but never the White (Tripel). I would love to try the Chimay Black (only available at their Abbey in Belgium), but I do fear that with a ~4% ABV, I may be disappointed. I heard it's like a lighter version of the Red anyway.

As an Argos fan, I'll agree with you. However, I think BC is coming up with the Cup this year. Should be an exciting Playoffs though.

Being in Saskatchewan is a different exprience for CFL football. It's totally rad to see people who care so much about it. I joined a pool with some riders and stamps fans this year, and it's been a lot of fun because I've followed the Season more closely than I have in the past.

CFL football is the only way to go.

Yeah, going to have to agree with you.  I was digging on the Riders only because there are two teams I cannot cheer for - the Riders and the Als.

I bleed Blue and Gold, so my dreams are pretty much dashed this year (still a chance, but it's such a long shot), have to default to the Stamps for my playoff hopes.  Really don't want the Lions to win, because they are a dirty team.  A good team, but a dirty team.  If they lost because of a Khalif screw up, I'd be soooo happy.

Thread successfully derailed again.

Lol, no. Sadly the budget to race in the series that car belongs in (VdeV/Speed) is waaaaaaaaaaaay beyond our pockets. It's a co-owned track toy with a friend of mine and we take it around circuits and just drive it on track days. Anything competitive takes the cost stratospheric. So it's just for fun.

Neither of us working at the moment and about £2k of work needed on it mean that next year we might only get to use it once or twice. As such it'll be Spa most likely. Best track I've ever driven on.

You don't need cable to watch the games, tsn.ca uploads all of the games (sans commercials) to their website the following week.  You do, however, have to listen to Rod Black do play by play (really, there's no one more qualified).  Spent all of last season watching the games in Europe that way.

As far as the lockout goes, meh, I have a hard time listening to rich guys and obscenely rich guys arguing about money.  While I'm sure it has a detrimental effect on the hospitality industry (17th Ave in Calgary is hurting something fierce), besides that it's a non issue for me.  They'll either play or they won't this year, my bet is on not playing.

Now that's a silly question. The only answer is bearded.

Charles Spurgeon, one of the most quoted men of all time, said,

"Growing a beard is a habit most natural, scriptural, manly and beneficial."

I've also heard it said, that the only reason to shave one's beard is for the pleasure of growing it once more.

When asked what is best in life, it's not to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women. Nope, it's beer, race cars and stompboxes ;)

Does being lazy count in the beard stakes? I generally let it grow up to the point it annoys me, then shave it off. The problem of late is that it's got some rather large grey patches in it, which from a distance look bald... Not a good look.

I have no idea what "CFL Football" is.

But I am sure that the mighty All Blacks will win the footie this year. No matter what countries they play. British Lions will go down if they come against the mighty All Blacks :) :)

That's rugby (proper game). None of the poncing around diving nonsense that is football. Or the armoured up thing that the Americans do where they have to stop for a break every couple of minutes *

Best Klon thread evarrr  ;D!

If I could grow a full blown beard I would.

The missus prefers me with a bit of stubble, so thats how I roll ;)

I look about 16 clean shaven  ;D

No one here a real (..... ahem  ;)) football fan then?

I'm tipping Chelsea for the league this year. Mata + Hazard + Oscar = Amazingz.

Good to see smaller, less physical, technically brilliant footballers making a comeback in the league (shame they are not English though  :'( )

Duck Commander is a brand of duck calls made by a bunch of well educated and well informed rednecks in Louisianna, which then spun into their own series of straight to DVD movies (google "The Duckmen"), which then spun itself into its own TV series on A&E, Duck Dynasty.

It's absolutely hilarious family entertainment, going back to good old family values.  And the beards are awesome.

Back on Buggery:

Of the many Brit profanities that I enjoy, lately I've really taken to using "fuck right off". Over here, we have "fuck off", but adding "right" really seems to give it an extra bit of zing that I savor.  ;D

Another favoUrite (tee-hee) is "arsed", as in "can't be arsed".

Ah FRO is a classic. Another to add to your arsenal is get f**ked or for added effect get royally f**ked. C**t can be added to the end of either if you actually mean it. ;)

Glad to see we are back on good old swearing  ;D

Another good, and dirty, one is 'royally twatted'

Adding Royally adds a certain air of.... elegance... to ones swearing doesn't one think old chap?  ;)

The guy with the windmill in his beard is probably hired by the Dutch tourist board and I do think that duck-call making rednecks, with a brand name like Duck Commander, is one of the funniest things I heard in a long time! feww.......

Now let's see how long we can continue this and where it'll take us....

Are we growing from scratch, or an existing beard?  Reason I'm asking is that next month is Movember (the prostate cancer fundraiser) where the goal is to off course grow the most ridiculous mustache (and possibly beard) from scratch in 30 days.  Last time I participated, my wife matched all my donations just to get me to shave it off early, lol

Now and then, the rather uncomfortable feeling comes to me, that i have missed something obvious. Like as if i never heard of Madonna or Jesus. Or Gibson guitars. Or the CryBaby wahwah.

Now... this Klon thing. I've been playing (and listnening to) music / guitar for 30+ years, but I got into DIY effect boxes just some 6 month ago. And before i joined this forum this spring, i have never heard of this very(?) special box.

So... what is this whole mythicalmystical thing really? Anyone that can point/link me to the beginning of the story, or even care to tell it? Will i finally see the light when i have boxed my yet unpopulated kingslayer pcb?

Anyway... funny reading in this thread so far;)

Title: Re: The Totally Epic Klon Thread of Awesome About Swearing
Post by: juansolo on November 05, 2012, 03:46:43 PM
In summary; it's been hyped to near mythical status due to unavailabilty, the 'creator' mentioning things like the diodes being made from unicorn tears, certain forums proclaiming it the second coming of Jesus, etc, and them changing hands for frankly stupid amounts of money on ebay.

It was ungooped over on FSB and it was found to be entirely replicatable and clones appeared. The frothing masses proclaimed DIYers to be terrorists (I kid you not), our very own mr Bean copping a lot of unwarranted flack from arseholes.

We built it. It was a very good od/boost that goes about doing what it does in some bizarre ways. Essentially debunking the unicorn tears. This sent the frothing masses appoplectic and resulted in a forum-wide case of denial and furthered the anti-DIY hatred. Some people profited from this, some got ripped off, ethics were discussed, shouting occured.

In essence, there was a lot of bullshit. It's a great effect that is worshipped out of all proportion and the Kingslayer does it better meaning we can all move on and talk about swearing and beer again instead. ;)

Couldn't give a fiery flaming f*ck about mythicalities...D.I.Y. is awesome.

I guess I should start drinking beer, but I have a hard time getting past bourbon on the rocks..."AND I MEAN ICE!!!" ( I know, that's supposed to be scotch, but I can't get into that either). I'm taking notes from this thread.

In reference to beards, I grew one as a work competition to see who could grow the best fake beard (everyone participating had never successfully grown a real beard)...I'm not sure if I won or lost though since I ended up with a pretty nice real beard that I haven't shaved off 4 years, just a weekly/bi-weekly trim. I'm actually not allowed to shave it off even for the pleasure of re-growing it unless I would like to spend 3 weeks on the couch, the Mrs has been very clear about this. My response: "as you wish"

I'm lost on all the sports going on here. The only one I ever used to keep up with is baseball. This is getting quite educational...

I just came into an Ipad 2. I would like to get a good case for it, and I'm interested in getting a case with a keyboard built in. Anyone have some suggestions, or some warnings?

Good one! Seriously, I have some defects in my musical taste that can get me in trouble with about every musician out there... And I know it!  ;)

Oh smashing...

Look I like Richard Marx ok.

The Richard Marx is more than offset by Multiple songs by The Sisters of Mercy.

And speaking of Stabbing Westward, I still have an old Charvel around here that used to belong to one of their former members.  From before they had their brief bout with airplay.  Utterly insignificant, but was a bit of a blast from the past.

If we are going into guilty musical pleasures...

The first single I ever bought (on cassette... remember those?) was PJ and Duncans 'Lets Get Ready to Rumble' when I was about 8.

For those of you who haven't experienced the delight... please enjoy:

In reference to beards, I grew one as a work competition to see who could grow the best fake beard (everyone participating had never successfully grown a real beard)...I'm not sure if I won or lost though since I ended up with a pretty nice real beard that I haven't shaved off 4 years, just a weekly/bi-weekly trim. I'm actually not allowed to shave it off even for the pleasure of re-growing it unless I would like to spend 3 weeks on the couch, the Mrs has been very clear about this. My response: "as you wish"
Heard it called a clunge sponge last week :)

Thankfully I had an older brother and I tended to listen to the stuff he did when I was a nipper. So Sabbath, Rainbow, Purple, etc. I didn't really fit in when everyone else at school was listening to Adam and the Ants and Madness. Whereas I had a denim jacket with Kiss and AC/DC patches on it. That's not to say I didn't have moments. I distinctly remember having Go West and Asia on tape (amongst others). The first record I bought...? That would be this:

Jacob

I dunno, the Argos didn't impress me much in the finale. Although, they did't have much to play for.

The Argos will beat the Esks, the Stamps should pummel the Riders.  Whether or not it will end up being the Braley bowl will depend largely on

1) If Kevin Glenn gets the start against BC, Calgary loses
2) If Braley buys out the Als to get both his teams in the 100th Grey Cup in the center of the universe.

Thank god Bieber's doing half time, I'll have at least eight minutes to go to the bathroom without fear of missing anything I'll regret later.

I love how this thread has spread out like chaos theory.

LOL at that advert!  ;D

It has come to my attention that our brothers across the pond are failing to correctly pronounce the excellent swearword that is tw@. Look we can overlook your overuse of the letter 'z' (zed, not zee), but this causes me to wince when I hear it used on US TV shows (Rescue Me) and the films (The Descendents). Thankfully it's pretty rare.

It's tw@ not twot. I have no idea what a twot is. But a tw@ is a c**t. But more commonly here it's the act of hitting something, or in the case of getting (royally) t**tted, becoming inebriated. Of course someone can also be an utter tw@. With the 'utter' it becomes more of a statement rather than an insult.

For an example of how it's delivered correctly we need a scouser, the best dialect for this particular word:

Though to be fair, on our own little island, cockneys have been pronouncing c**t irritatingly forever. "You fakking caaaaant!" ...I can't what?

Here is a stocking filler for you all for Xmas:

and here are a few examples:

Dog's arse – To be troubled with wind, as in: "Excuse my wife. I'm afraid she's got a dog's arse today, Your Holiness."

Dragon food – Chocolates bought for her indoors when one is in the bad books.

Eros – Pose that must be struck when urinating in a toilet with no lock.

Hotel toast – A girl who used to be hot.

Hunt for brown October – The act of seeking out and destroying a U-bend U-boat with a bog brush.

Injury time – Dying seconds of a football match where the losing side throw caution to the wind. Hence the last record in a nightclub.

;D ;D ;D

It is serisously one of the funniest things you will ever read (if you are not easily offended, and are of an indecent, toilet-humour, based persuasion... which lets face it.... we are  ;D).

That you did.  Totally missed the boat on KG (I'm a die hard BB fan, and the days of him continually throwing pick sixes into coverage ws soul destroying).  Dickenson called a fantastic game for the Stamps.  Bratton's lucky he plays for the Als and not the Riders, the game tying touchdown hits him square in the numbers and he can't catch it.  McCallum got the truckloads of horsecrap for missing a field goal, pretty sure if he was in Green and White, they'd have strung him from the lights at Mosaic.

I'm calling a blowout game by the Stamps next weekend, unless Isaac or Belli are specifically instructed to injure the QB (which is a very plausible scenario).
Title: Re: The Totally Epic Klon Thread of Awesome About Swearing

Nah, it'll be tight and Argos will take it.

Home field advantage, and all three elements are firing on all cylinders. Hard to beat Ray on a role, and nobody is more dominant than Owens right now.

I think the Stamps have better defence as long as Watkins doesn't play or isn't %100. Also, Nik Lewis consistently blows my mind with how strong he is with the ball in his hands. But I think Ray will out play Glenn like he did Calvillo last week, and when you're throwing an average 400 yards a game...

Key to the stamps game will be either eliminating Ray, Owens or both from the game. Key for the Argos is shutting down Cornish and keeping the penalties/turnovers to a minimum.

Jacob

Last time the Stamps played a home team in the cup, they handed them a pretty convincing loss, at that was at the Big O, which has a lot better/louder fanbase than Rogers.

Lewis'll have a big game, because the entire Argo defense is going to have to key in on Price and Bryant, or it's going to be long ball TDs all day long.

Cornish will outplay Owens, Chad's going to get his usual fumbleitess going.  Ricky's a great QB, but Simpson's back, and he'll be on his back most of the game.

And Huff and Dickenson will outcoach Milanovich and Jones, Chris'll be crying and wishing he hadn't stabbed the Stamps in the back in the off season.

But I've been wrong before.

Is it one specific Oude Kriek you like? I'm a pretty open minded beer drinker but I'd have trouble imaging you wouldn't like all of cantillon's lambics if you like kriek. Another great lambic blender (soon to brew) is 3 fonteinen spelled drie fonteinen in belgium. He makes a really amazing oude kriek called Schaerbeekse kriek, name comes from a really expensive type of cherry. One of the best I think i've ever had. Cost us a good $40 a bottle out here in US but in belgium I'd see it around 10 euro. 3f is in the same little village as oude beersel, a town called beersel of course! It was a cute place i must say  :D

Yeah there's usually a period where we try and get the Nurburgring the same week as Spa, and if we can't we get Zandvoort. To be fair, with our car I'd prefer Zandvoort as it's not really suitable for running at the ring. If you're small and flexible enough, I'll take you out for a run in the car ;)

Hmm..it's funny you say that because I've only had that beer once and I found it kinda sweet compared to most of the lambics I usually would enjoy. If you like aciditic, spontaneous fermented beer try Cantillon when you see it. They are the gueze museum in brussels and have set the standard for whats considered authentic traditional lambic.

There are only a few beers I won't touch... American (heard too many love in a canoe jokes to want to risk it), Australian ("Why does Aus have the beer 'XXXX'?"), Mexican (not keen on Corona), and lambic.

I'm sure it's very nice, I just get a massive shudder at the thought of the beer being fermented by whatever the hell the wind picks up off the ground.

Mexicans drink tequila
and everybody knows aussies drink rattlesnake piss
shut those breweries down !

as far as whats in the wind, i just farted

I got a Saison farmhouse ale from Belgium for Christmas.

I've never seen a beer with legs before. It was unfiltered and $#%@ing* glorious.

*had to fit the theme in somehow.

Good to see this one revived, enjoyed it loads...  :D My wife and I spent Xmas in Luxembourg where 3 things are very cheap because of the low taxes: fuel, cigarettes and booze! Needless to say we returned home with our car stuffed full! Had myself a few to many yesterday (started with some Chimay Blue, after that too much really good red wine), so I'm nursing The Mother of All Hangovers right now... Well, it's januari 1st, so I won't be the only one!  ;)

Have a very good 2013, cheers!!

Indeed!

Bad news is no Zandvoort this year  :'( Just couldn't get a date that coincided with Spa. I'm a bit gutted about that. However there is a chance of Monza and Mugello in Italy... Hmmmmmmm.

Always up for an excuse to bump the best thread EVER. Though with something strangely on-topic. It seems the whole Klon-KTR saga has taken yet another turn.

QuoteI wanted to give you an update on the status of the KTR Reissues, and what
we know at the moment:

1. Bill Finnegan (the creator of the Klon and KTR) is in the process of
choosing a new factory to build the next run of KTRs.

2. He doesn't at this point have one chosen, and will have to go through a
prototyping and testing process with whatever new factory he ends up
choosing before he will resume production of the pedals.

3. At this point he doesn't have an ETA for when that process will be
finished, and isn't taking any official orders from dealers for the pedals
until that process is completed.

4. At such point as he has A)Chosen the new factory, B) has finished is
prototyping process, and C) is ready to take official orders from dealers he
will notify us.

So is Bill the unluckiest man in the world, the cleverest marketing man in the history of stompboxes, or something else?

maybe he doesn't know/want to handle many of the problems associated with marketing etc...  could be quite a huge headache for the normal people who aren't business men.

He also just may have no understanding about how to handle mass production, even on a scale that isn't terribly large.  It isn't the same as one-off builds in the basement.

I think this latest event in the Klon saga may be the final nail in the coffin for that pedal.

I give it another year at least before any more of the new variants hit the shelves.

Surely everyone who wants a Klon has either bought an original, built a clone, or bought a clone by now?

I thing the PCE Aluminum Falcon saga is every bit as hilarious as the KTR. Apparently they shipped like 100 pedals with a GROUNDING issue.

How
The
Hell

does a builder build 100 pedals without verifying the layout?

What truly blows my mind is that most of their customers think this is play.

What the hell is WRONG with people.

Nope. Here's the closest equivalents:
Gin: Bombay
Wine: A magnum of Montepulciano (it's actually quite good for drinking, but I mostly make sauce with it ...)
Vodka: Gray Goose. The bottle is 5 years old ... who knows if it's still good. I last used it for making vanilla.
Jagermeister: wut? I guess ... sambuca?

I can't stand gin. I originally got it for mixed drinks, but none of my friends seem to drink it either.

I did have a friend recommend Hendricks who said it blows Bombay out of the water, but if I basically don't like any aspect of a gin and tonic or martini, I'm not sure it's worth the investment to try it.

Every gin (with the exception of Beefeater, which shouldn't be called gin) worth an investment.... if you like gin, of course.

Now seriously: Hendriks is special, but it is still a gin and tastes like it, and you can buy many vactrols with the money it costs...

Just got my 2nd infraction on TGP for a post I made months ago. A guy in the EU wanting a RotoSim. I had one for sale at the time and offered it to him at significantly less than it'd have cost him to get one from the US (like £120 cheaper!). He bought it and was deliriously happy. Someone bounced the the thread yesterday and a mod slapped me with another infraction...

Seriously? I'm hardly a commercial outfit pimping my knocked off Klones. Well I'm not commercial and I do that far more subtly. It's never resulted in a sale to be fair ;) I honestly thought I was helping out there rather than exploiting their board.

Anyhow I hope they go through all my posts now. I'm sure they'll find enough reasons there to ban me and I can get rid of the place from my bookmarks.

Utter wankers.

PS: I like this thread. Good place to swear when I mean it.

I don't understand what happened here at all. Did the mods explain the infraction? Did they give you one for replying to someone's wtb ad that you had a copy of the pedal you were looking for? Maybe ask if it was a mistake.

Nope, he was after a leslie pedal and I was selling my RotoSim at the time (as I'd built the Leslish). He was looking at £250 to import one, I let him have mine for what I paid for it (I got it for a bargain price). They've removed the post, but it's there quoted in all it's nefarious glory in the thank you post from the guy:

http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=1264970

The infraction was because, and I quote, I should have used the Emporium...
Title: Re: The Totally Epic Klon Thread of Awesome About Swearing
Post by: midwayfair on August 09, 2013, 03:59:18 PM
Actually, I think the issue was that you told him that the details were on your site AND that you posted that you had one for sale in someone's thread AND that you didn't currently have a For Sale ad up for the pedal you were referring to. TGP requires donations to post for sale threads, and you're not a supporting member over there.

TGP gets a lot of flack on DIY sites (most of it deserved), and though I'd like to say that they were total jerks, in this case I think they were right to give you a warning at least. I don't know how serious the infraction was, because it's pretty minor and doesn't seem malicious. It was just a misunderstanding of their way of doing things. It also is extremely unlikely that it has anything to do with your "business". I would guess they didn't even look at your site to determine whether you were a commercial builder (though they've been cracking down on people not disclosing lately).

In the future, if someone is interested in a pedal and you have one for sale, just PM them and you won't get an infraction unless the person thinks it's spam.

CBA to be honest.

I find the place has an unjustified sense of self importance and over-zealous mods. It's twice I've been slapped down now like a naughty child. Given that, I absolutely don't want to give them any money that's for bloody sure!

Any idea how you delete an account or do I just have to be really properly offensive?

Matakana Moonshine "Original Amber Lightning Southern Style" is really, REALLY nice. Smooth, and with NONE of the nailpolish whiff you get from cheap whisky.

Better yet, it's distilled here in Aotearoa! If you see a bottle, it's worth getting. If you're in NZ, it's worth seeing if your town is listed in their 'Score Some Here' page.

Oh, and Founders 1946 Pilsener has a chick in a bikini on the bottles and the box, and a story about the invention of the bikini. (Apparently the perfect bikini should be able to be pulled through a wedding ring.) Quite a lot more like a IPA than other pilseners I've had.
