VFE Projects / CHORAL REEF Issues

CHORAL REEF does not play well in effects loop of my amp. The delay switch makes a very loud pop.

Any ideas?

Hey Chris how did you do the graphics on your sardine can? Was that a Tayda UV or did you do that yourself?

Build Reports / Binge Building.

After a drought of 6 years my building switch flipped to the binge setting..
I have to catch up to you guys.
I've built eleven pedals since December... what's that, three+ months?

Last one was VFE Choral Reef. Too my surprise it fired right up. Actually most of these didn't give me any problems.

I know this is an old thread but I wanted say how nice your pedal looks and sounds. I'm looking forward to  building the one you Piffed me. It really covers a lot of ground sonically. Great job Chris!

Love it! Hard to believe that's a Tele. Very cool.

That's really nice! That ticks all the boxes for me. Ebony seems to make a guitar extra fine. I just discovered how great Dmarzios are. Blinded by Seymour. Then Ibanez woke me up. Congratulations!

I finished it today and it is working fine and sounds great. I was never much of a Rat lover but the Alpha Dog is a different animal. 😜

Ah.. I didn’t think about that. Interesting. Somewhere I heard the input impedance is a conglomerate of sorts so I see how that would affect it. I went ahead and made a couple of teepees. Now the LM308 I have, from who knows where/when, is not acting like the YouTube video resistance test would suggest. I’ll start testing the pedal tomorrow. I ordered a handful of OP07s just in case or for future Rat type things.

Thanks for the information/confirmation..

VFE Projects / ALPHA DOG Question. [ANSWERED]

Will subbing R2 and R3 with 2M instead of 2.2M create any issue?
I looks like a voltage divider to provide bias to the circuit?

I ordered a Pickit Kit 3.5. I have the MPLAB software running. Hopefully it will recognize the hardware.
Hey with HEX code do you need to transcode it into binary before burning the chip?
Hopefully I'll figure it out.

The answer to this is no. The supplied hex code from VFE is opened directly in Microchip’s MPLAB IPE software. There are two software packages MPLAB IDE and MPLAB IPE.
Both were installed with the downloaded package from Microchip’s website on my Mac.
IDE is Integrated Development Environment for creating/writing/debugging code and
IPE is Integrated Programming Environment for burning chips.

After I installed the software I added a plugin for PIC12F509 chips as I fumbled around in the IDE software. I do not know if that is needed for the IPE software but I would think it is.

I have not tested the PIC12F509 chips that I burned, but the software verified they were correctly burned. I’m assuming it runs a comparison test.

I don’t know if there are alternatives but I purchased a PikIt 3 with the IC clip. You have to follow the instructions on the back of the clip thing and there are lines and a diagram to show you where to put the chip in the clip. It is very cryptic and the one I purchased from China had typos. I finally got an answer from a guy on Amazon with pictures of how to place the DIP 8 chip on the programmer clip.

Mission accomplished. After figuring out the hieroglyphics and typos on the back of the chip holder.
