Audio/Video Demos / Total Recall Proto Demo
February 26, 2016, 11:57:31 PM
A few months ago Bean was kind enough to do a giveaway of the total recall boards that hadn't been released yet. The only stipulation was that we needed to give some sort of feedback and that doing a demo, although not required, would be nice. It's been forever and I finally got around to recording a little bit of the pedal, and I gotta say, it's awesome.

I used 2x mn3008s, a strat plus, into a '67 super reverb with the reverb off on the amp. Pedal sounds awesome. I've never gotten to try an old memory man, but I have had a memory man xo which I loved and it sounds very very comparable. Here are some clips of it. Don't mind the mistakes and whatnot just wanted to get some of it out there! [emoji41]

Obviously gotta do dotted eighth edge style, song is edge of desire by John Mayer.

Some swells literally with just the TR and nothing else, no reverb no second delay.

Last one just playing around, delay might've been a little louder than it should've been, but just wanted to make sure the delay would've been heard using my phone.

Awesome pedal!

I haven't logged on the site in a while and when I came back on I noticed everything was gone up until May of last year...finally I find a thread where I realize I'm not going crazy thinking I was the only one!

Maybe a preorder thread for this project would help, so Brian can have an estimate number of boards he'll sell right away. Add let's say 30 boards to that number and hopefully everyone will get one.
All in favor? ^^

That's a great idea, i'm sure everyone anxiously checks the project page every day, multiple times even, just to see whether or not the dirtbag got released and subsequently to their horror sold out within 15 minutes. It would definitely relieve everyone of trying to get their dirtbag order early, although I don't mind it being released as usual on the projects page.

I know that Bean is working extremely hard on the dirtbag, which seems to be the most in demand (most anticipated) release apart from the sunking I've seen since i've joined (I'm a noob here i know i know). Gotta make sure all the kinks are worked out!

I know it's gonna be so sick that I will be able to sell the dmmxo that I currently have on my board and buy something else I'm gas'ing for so its worth waiting for...the 3008's I got from chrome has been sitting patiently in its drawer for like 2 months haha. Maybe they expired already :P

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the dirtbag isn't gonna be released in October... :(

Tech Help - Projects Page / 8ball oscillating
October 16, 2014, 08:59:59 PM
So you're saying to put a 47pf cap on top of the resistor already in there? Or to replace the resistor with a 47pf cap...? Haha!

*update* so I actually did both. I swapped it out first with a 47pf cap, and then I put the resistor in along with the cap. Unfortunately neither worked :(

Let me know if pictures are needed, or voltages :(

Tech Help - Projects Page / 8ball oscillating

Anyone else have their 8ball oscillate on the down position of the dpdt switch? It oscillates when I turn the gain up pretty high, maybe the last 20-30%.

Should I switch out anything? (Resistors, diodes)

Other than that this build screams! Talk about adding volume to the original design! It's pretty awesome

My bad, I meant 150R on my last post. So i switched it out for a 100R resistor. I have always had the 150R in the R28, i even measured it at 150R on my voltmeter. I shouldn't have put 100N (It's not a capacitor :()

I am getting 6.4V on pin 1 of my TC1044 with the 100R resistor in R28.

When I jumpered R28 I was getting the correct 9V on pin 1 of my TC1044, it seems depending on the value of R28, the input voltage gets limited accordingly.

OMG IT DOES EXIST!!!

In all seriousness, I really hope it gets released before the end of the month, I've had a stash of 3008's sitting in a drawer for like 2 months now waiting for this beast!

Yeah the voltage was fine on both sides of D5, ~9.45V pre and ~9.15V post D5, but I switched it out anyway and same voltage readings. So i switched out D6 for another 1n4742A and same thing. The only thing I see in the schematic in between the V input and pin 1 of the IC is the 150N resistor...I put a 100N in there and still nothing :(

Anyone else have any suggestions? Any other info you guys might need to help me out?

Anyone? :(

I have to mention I bypassed the resistor in r28 to see what 9V would do for the gain (nothing haha). What you see is a temporary bridge, it's not actually soldered down but still passes voltage (so I can fix it in case someone has a solution) :)

So I looked at the schem and r28 was changed to 150R which I put in but it brought my voltage down to the 5.7V. I put in a 100R resistor and it was still low, like 6.x volts. I'm assuming that was intentional? So pin 1 of tc1044 is supposed to be low? 5.x volts low?

Tech Help - Projects Page / Kingslayer 2 weird gain knob
September 16, 2014, 12:47:45 PM
I just built a kingslayer 2 and the gain knob is doing something weird. I understand that since it is a dual gang pot, it blends the clean and dirty signal. My KS is doing something weird that none of the other 4 or so klones I've made have done.

When the gain is all the way down its clean and when it's all the way up, there is a distorted signal. But the weird thing is when halfway it's almost as if the signal drops out, and loses db's.

So say it's at 0db when gain is all the way down and when you turn it up it goes to -10db and is still really clean and seems like the sound sort of disappears and then when a little past halfway the db level comes back up. When gain is dimed the db level is back to 0db and is dirty, although the distorted signal that is present isn't what I imagined it to sound like. Obviously something is wrong so the dimed gain sound probably isn't what it's supposed to sound like.

I perused tech help for KS posts and found one that Bean gave voltages for the tl074 (I swapped it in instead of the tl274 that he said might be better). My voltages seemed low to me, especially since there's a pump, on pin 1 of the 1044 I think I was getting somewhere around 5.7V. Shouldn't that be the input V which would be around 9V? So because pin 1 was 5.7V, pin 4 on the tl074 was 5.7V as well.

What could I possibly be missing? I'm in class right now so I can't post pics or voltages for all pins but if anyone wants me to when I get home I can.

😞
