Open Discussion / Can I retire? SAD 1024 and 512
December 06, 2023, 06:49:53 AM
I haven't built in a while and looking through some old stock. At some point I had bought 2 SAD1024 as working on ebay but never had a way to test them. I also have a broken mxr stereo chorus pedal with a SAD512 in it. I'd like to get some value from these. How can I get them tested and is it necessary?

I've been gone around the same time! I've been living in Mexico then the UK and had my gear in storage with my parents so I haven't had time or space to build. I'm back in the USA now for the forseeable future so going through all my old stuff. I have tons of half-built projects as well. Great to see you around!

"The price is correct as listed so please don't bother asking if the price is correct."

Well, the seller answered the only question I had.  :P
Almost makes me want to organize a group to all send separate messages asking if the price is correct...

Clatushaywood, sorry I just saw your post. Yeah I just replaced the h11f1 with a red led and ldr (i believe tayda variety) I put this actual led on a switch hooked to a jack so it can be controlled by an outside source such as tapanator (though thats pretty wacky with the ldr i have in there now). As to delay time it onl speeds up or slows down until the led is full bright or full dim. The bright setting goes to a really short delay that varies slightly depending on the time pot. The led dim time will change a lot depending on the time pot. The way I think of it is the delay time control sets the longest possible delay so its best to set with the led at the dim setting. Make sense?

How did you do that finish?  It looks brushed on.
The brush strokes come from mod podge which I use to seal in the alcohol inks before clear coating.

I think most of these you just put a bigger delay pot

I like it very much.
Great artwork and it's nice to see some liberty taken with the enclosure type.
Thanks! Once I finish off my enclosure stock I'm gonna order a bunch more octagons and maybe some trapezoids. Octagons are great, plenty of extra room for bb builds and anything smaller fits double.

Love the diagonal controls and the clean simple graphics. Looks great!

This turned out better than expected. Made a couple mistakes with the LED... first, wired 2 in series (rate indicator and bypass in one) So I think because they are in series they spend more time off than on. To try to fix this problem I thought that I could just half the resistor that is in series by paralleling another 1k... not only did this not work but it screwed up the first LED so it barely turns on, so now she only has one flashing eye... they are glued to the enclosure so we'll see if I ever get around to fixing them. I have yet to try it at 12v but I hope to do that soon. Anyway, here it is.

My standard, somewhat messy guts.

Please definitely a Twilight Zone theme!!

It already looks amazing. The "dress nuts" are great. I don't really like the look of the 3 toggle switches, I've been thinking about what I would do if I were to build one. Your solution is fantastic!

You could do slide switches They shouldn't be that hard to find. Drilling would be difficult though you would have to get a dremel and cut the rectangles out of the enclosure.
If you go the rectangle route you could probably do rocker switches, those are bomb. You can buy them from mouser with basically the same dimensions as the standard toggle switches.

Things of note. This thing sounds WAY better running from a 12v PSU. Where on 9v it's not very tolerant of humbuckers and is prone to distortion, that all goes away. However, it REALLY doesn't like having a charge pump in there to do it. So you have to go with a real external PSU and re-bias it for it. Totally worth it though, it's the best I've heard one of these sound.
Ooh good info. I just built one, ill have to try it

Clever use of a looper box. looks great! You're blasting through these builds before you take off huh?
Pretty much. It helps that I haven't had much troubleshooting in my recent builds and a lot of them were already half finished. But yeah, doing a years worth of building in 3 months haha.

Crazy build, goo job! Do you possibly have spare set of these photocells? It's last thing I need to finish my builds, nearly finished PCBs are collecting dust since last winter lol ;)
i have lots of photocells but not the particular ones called for. I bet the trem and wah are not too picky about ldrs. The phaser on the other hand has a very small range where it works correctly
