Thanks Brian!  That's a good point on the current-restriction-benefit on the +9v supply.  I wouldn't have thought of that.

I was mostly worried about clock noise from the IC because of the ol' 1044's reputation, but a little more reading has laid that concern to rest.  I'll probably use an LT1054 - it's the same price as a 1044 from my supplier anyway.

Hi all,

I haven't experimented with charge pumps in the past but I'm designing a circuit that needs a little extra headroom and good noise-free power.  I'm considering using a Road Rage to provide either +/-9v (and run it as a bipolar supply) or +15v regulated (and set the bias with the classic voltage divider method).

My question is: the -9v tap on a Road Rage board has a simple 10uF capacitor on it for filtering, which... doesn't seem like a lot.  Is the +/-9v bipolar supply going to be noisier than the 15v coming off the 78L15 regulator?

Those would certainly be the berries in question!

I've never been to Yorkton but I see that there is a Co-op, so it's conceivable that I might end up down there for a site visit some day if they decide to renovate or build another store.

General Questions / Peacekeeper vs BSIAB II
March 30, 2017, 04:44:07 PM
Hullo!  New to the forum.  Sorry if this question is in the wrong place.  If it is, please redirect me to the appropriate sub-forum...

The Peacekeeper circuit looks very similar to the BSIAB II, which I built a few of many years ago.  How similar (or different) are the two designs when it comes to tone and feel?  Are there any good demos I could check out?  Maybe I've just been looking in the wrong places, but I'm having a hard time finding any.

I live in the city that is named after a moderately tasty (but highly overrated) berry!

Longtime DIYSB / FSB member, occasional MBP lurker.  I've built kits from GGG, BYOC, boards from MadBean and TonePad, and an awful lot of perfboard projects.  I've worked as a preschool teacher, rapid-deployment mobile sand silo designer, boutique bass designer / assembler, and right now I design stores for a federation of co-operatives (that should be a pretty big hint for fellow western Canadians) with well over 600 locations.

What's the best sub-forum to ask questions like "How does a Peacekeeper compare to a BSIAB2"?  I'm having trouble finding demos of some of the custom MadBean designs, and living in Canada makes pedal-building an expensive hobby so I try to be pretty careful with my purchases.
