Nice! I think you should buy her a new oscilloscope to show your appreciation.  Or maybe a dual-bevel sliding miter saw.

Open Discussion / Grinding Screw Channels Away Inside Enclosure
« on: August 21, 2018, 09:07:43 AM »
I'm seeking opinions about the best way and the preferred tool for you guys when you need to get rid of some material inside an enclosure.  I've never really had to do this before so I'm hoping to work smart without banging up the box.

Situation:  I bought 2 1690ns's (1590C clones) with nice powder coat from PPP a looonnng time ago, and now I'm realizing they aren't the best choice because there isn't quite as much room at the inside bottom (well, really the top I guess) as a 1590bb tall.  This is mostly due, I think, to the rather large interior screw channels.

So what is the most efficient method/best tool for the job?  Any opinions out there?
FWIW, I've got a rotary tool with some accessories, a drill, and some other stuff like files.  My neighbor offered me the use of his 4 1/2" angle grinder but I don't think he realizes how small these enclosures are, lol.  I could see where one of those oscillating tools with a skinny blade on it could be pretty useful, but I don't have one. :(

General Questions / Re: Flintlock Flanger build problems hum

I think there used to be some voltages posted in the lectric-fx section, but we lost that in when the forum lost data, and I can't find them on my drive.
I grabbed an older flintlock and took these real quick, so hopefully these are on.  Let me know if you see anything off with these, Scruff.

If you're testing it before it's boxed, make sure both in and out jacks are grounded.
AFAIK, there is no problem with the Flintlock pcb.  I've built 3 or 4 of them and they all worked fine.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Re: Dandy Horse - 22uF Cap Question
« on: June 08, 2018, 09:05:50 PM »
Hey there

C50 is in the power section, while c36 & 37 are in the LFO, so they probably wouldn't be critical to making it sound any better.
I guess if the audio caps are low esr that might be nice for c50, but honestly, I wouldn't worry about it much.  FWIW, 26uF is still in spec for a 20% tolerance 22uF cap, so nothing to worry about.
Not a very exciting answer, I know, but Nichicon makes good caps and any of those should do the job. ;)

Build Reports / Early Aquaboy w 3PRR
« on: June 07, 2018, 09:23:43 AM »
Hey guys, long time no build report!
Here's an old-school aquaboy I've had for ages.  Decided to go with 15v, so I threw in one of bean's 3PRR pcb's.  I'm not 100% sure it was necessary, but I made my own long pin pcb mount pots so I could stick the I/O jacks under the board to make room for the 3PRR.  So that was a little extra work, but worked out great in the end.
The graphics were done in photoshop, and etched n a black faceplate with clear coat enamel.  I used a diffused purple led which looks really nice I think.  I'm not too crazy about the cream knobs but there was no contrast with black ones.  So let me know what you think about that.
I hope you like it!

Use a switching stereo jack. T is tip, C is ring, S is sleeve.
Here's a pic to explain a bit better.

Get some of the Barry's Best wire from guitarpcb.

Try out some 63/37 solder unless you really have to use lead free.  Always wash your hands after you use it.

If your iron ever slips out of your hand while soldering, ignore that innate reflex that tells you you're quick enough to catch it before it hits the floor.

On the other hand, if the iron is heading towards your crotch while wearing thin shorts by all means burn those fingers and catch it.
Right!  That's why I always wear jeans or at least sweats when I solder now  :o

Never solder naked.  There's a good tip.

I don't play bass myself, but if it was me I'd try
DAM Meathead for fuzz, woolly mammoth also good
Clone Theory for the New Order sound, if you're into that
I think there was a fulldrive version for bass if you wanna try OD
An optical comp- my store has the Zirconia project (Diamond),  but there are others.

Hey Gordo, Great job!  Nice to see one of these in the wild.
I guess that's a dip design on the enclosure.  So cool looking, I wish I knew how to do that.
I don't know what everyone else has, but I use these 220uF caps in most things.  They are 6.3mm x 11mm, not too bad.

Anyone else getting phone calls from shipstation support?  They've called me twice now.  The 1st time they called (yesterday) I didn't answer and they hung up after 2 rings.  I googled the # and knew it was them.  They called back today and I picked up, but there was no one there.
Probably just a sales call, but I was wondering if anyone else is getting these.
