After buying up rolls at Radio Shack,
I have been buying rolls up, at a flea market,
I go to. I mean, they sell them 50 cents, to
A dollar, so why not!
I think I've picked up, about 10 full rolls
Within this summer hunting. I'm afraid
That sooner than later, we'll have to
Use the lead free crap.
I did buy a large roll of kester solder
Recently, but it's tarnished. Anyway to
Clean it up? Does it mess with the
Performance of the solder, or not?

Are you planning on opening up a store to sell all these rolls of solder?  If not, how exactly do you plan on
using every bit of solder?    Unless you plan on ingesting it.

How much enjoyment you take out of an activity is up to you.

I could not agree more.

I have other hobbies - I like to build plastic models ... and of course I play guitar ...  With the baby and work, there are also other things I need to take care of first.

Maybe I'll take the next step and learn how to breadboard so I can take all the best bits of my favourite drives and see if I can finally get what I'm looking for.

Very cool.

... I think my main problem is allowing too many projects to build up ...

solution:  1) stop posting on the forum
               2) get your ducks in a row
                3)  finish a project
                  4) go back to step #2

I bought a few ICL8038 function generator chips on ebay and they work. I have even made a synth VCO with one. It's not a direct replacement for the XR 2206 but you can find function gen circults that use the ICL8038.

I was leery of buying these as it broke my rule of "don't buy formerly out of production parts on ebay," but there are some current production ICL8038 generator kits on import from Asia, so I thought they might not be duds, and they're not. I'm not sure if they would meet every spec of the originals, but for an audio application they seem to work.

Nice.

stunning guitar, the purple/lilac and gold works brilliantly

I totally agree.   I've got a folder full of possible future builds.   Not from scratch, but kit ideas.

I like the Fallout series.   Haven't heard much of '76.
I've got several games that I've barely scratched the surface of.

Open Discussion / Opininons on cloning the MXR 117
October 31, 2018, 06:05:47 PM
I'd like to get thoughts on this classic circuit.  I have a feeling that any differences
between a clone ( ex: Collusus ) and the original are fairly minute.
Especially when used with any type of Dist/OD/Fuzz.

Anyone have a working SAD1024 117?
