General Questions / 9V Supply Schematic Questions
May 11, 2021, 05:30:39 AM
Below is a sampling of 9v supply schematic values from various pedals. Obviously all are basically the same, however, they all have slight differences.

Polarity Diode   Resistor   Film Cap   Electro Cap   Resistor   Resistor   Electro Cap
1N5817                -                -           100uf           10k           10k           47uf

1n4003              91r        -           100uf           10k           10k           47uf
1N5817              27r        -           220uf           10k           10k           220uf
1N5817                -                -           100uf           10k           10k           100uf
1N5817                -                -           100uf           47k           47k           100uf
1N5817                -             100n   47uf                   10k           10k           47uf
1N5817                -                -           47uf                   8k2           10k           47uf
1N5817                  -                -           100uf           47k           47k           100uf
1N5817              33r        -           100uf           10k           10k           47uf
1N5817                -             100n   47uf                   100k           100k           10uf
1N5817                -                -           220uf           10k           10k           220uf
1N5817                -                -           100uf           10k           10k           10uf

I know diode is for polarity protection, I know the electros are for power noise filtering, I know the 2 resistors form a voltage divider, I don't know why some include a small value resistor after the diode (usually less than 1k) and some include a film cap (usually 100n). Is there a best practice/standardized power section or are all of these pretty much the same? Just trying to learn a little.

Here is my latest build. KOT using pedalpcb Paragon Mini. Built according to stock BOM.

Build Reports / Poor Man's Flint

Rub-a-Dub Reverb into EA Trem with toggle switch to defeat the trem. Built in Gorva enclosure from LMS. Guts aren't pretty but it works!

Open Discussion / LMS Gorva Enclosure
December 20, 2019, 07:09:00 AM
Don't know if anyone has tried the new Gorva enclosures from Lawrence's shop. I ordered one to try. They are very nice. A little expensive but I think worth it for something you want to look professional. I am going to try to combine my Rub-a-Dub and EA Trem for a Flint type of pedal. I will post if it works out.

Build Reports / Aion Vector Delay
July 13, 2019, 06:00:12 AM
So I decided to try one of the Aion kits since they were on sale. I chose the Vector which is their take on the Deep Blue Delay. It was a very easy build and the end product is very professional. The hardest part of the build was getting the stupid PT2399 chip into the socket >:(. Pedal sounds great.

General Questions / BOSS DD-5 Blinking LED
April 09, 2019, 10:59:54 AM
Does anyone know if there is a way to make the LED on a BOSS DD-5 blink in tempo?

Another Aion build. Cerulean pcb built to Morning Glory specs. Easy straight forward build. Sounds great. If I were doing it again I would build without the clipping option switches. I will just be using the stock Morning Glory clipping.

Nothing too fancy but a nice pedal. Very easy build.

I am making a pcb layout based on the Fatpants Ver. 1 04.18.10 from the archives. What would be the easiest component change to warm it up just a touch?

So I did a 1590G layout for the Love Squeeze compressor. It works great, no problems. The only issue is the 100 uf electrolytics that I have on hand are not fitting in my layout. The low profile ones are too wide and the other ones are too tall. So, I either need to change my layout which I don't really want to do or I need another option for the 100 uf capacitors. I was thinking of going with Tantalum or if any of you know of an electro that is skinny and short that would be the best option. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Build Reports / New Multi Drive Build
June 29, 2018, 07:24:06 AM
Here is my completed multi drive build. I did schematic and layouts in eagle and had boards made by Oshpark. On my main board I have a Bondi Breakers, Barber Direct Drive, Barber LTD, and Grind Customs Catch 22 in that order. The Catch 22 is on all of the time for eq and slight boost, the Bondi Breakers is engaged for low drive, the Barber Direct Drive for mid drive, and the Barber LTD stacked for lead boost. I built this pedal to replace those 4. Tones are not exact but close enough. This multi drive has simplified Timmy style circuit into my version of the Direct Drive into another version of the Direct Drive into another simplified Timmy style circuit. Now I just need one of you very talented people to make me a nice face plate for it. Any takers?

So I have a Mimik board that has been populated for some time now that I finally got around to boxing up. Everything seems to work fine with the exception that the output signal is barely audible. Before I spend too much time trouble shooting wanted to know if anyone here might have a good place to start.

Build Reports / Zirconia Comp
April 28, 2015, 07:58:16 PM
This is not yet a build report but I just got done playing for a while and felt the need to post my love of this compressor. It is now my 2nd favorite pedal (1st is my Barber Direct Drive). I will post a complete build report in the next day or two. I originally built it according to the BOM and liked it but was a little underwhelmed. After discussing with Keefe, he realized an error in his BOM. After changing one resistor it made all the difference. I used to have a Diamond compressor and loved it, but for some reason it did not play nice with some of my other pedals so I moved it. This one fits right in and will be staying for a while. Thanks Keefe!

Tech Help - Projects Page / Need help with Bonamassa FF
September 17, 2014, 05:58:33 PM
So I built the Bonamassa Fuzz Face using the board from Panos. I cannot get the transistors to bias high enough. Q1 is around -.34 give or take and Q2 is around -4 give or take. Any ideas what might be the problem. I double checked all component values.

Just finished building a Kingslayer v1. I think everything was as the BOM except I used a 390k instead of 392K. I am looking to get as much drive at max as I get with the Aion Refractor build. What can I change or mod to get there?

Hey guys I am building a P19 using a Mudbunny 2010 board and Juan's Muff spreadsheet. I have it built but it does not seem to be functioning properly. When I have the volume and sustain dimed it is barely above unity and sounds like a low gain overdrive. I played through a Skreddy P19 yesterday at a local store to see what it should sound like and my build is miles apart. Any ideas on what the issue could be? Thanks in advance.

Build Reports / My Latest Builds
July 06, 2014, 03:00:56 PM
I haven't posted any build reports in a while so I thought I would post my latest. Nothing special but here you go.

First Rullywow Queen of Bone and 808

Next Madbean Afterlife, Aion Refractor and re-housed Joyo tremolo

And here they are on my current board

Here is my first attempt at a 1590A build. Of all the comps I have built the Afterlife circuit is my favorite so far.

Build Reports / Queen of Bone
January 18, 2014, 02:38:01 PM
Here is my Queen of Bone build. Pedal sounds great. I built it stock with 1n4148 diodes. Enclosure is anodized yellow from PPP. It actually has kind of a green cast to it in real life. Knobs are aluminum from mammoth.
