so just what subject says, no need for a long exp of what happened, but a small amount, prob couple ounces. some is on carpet, some is on a bedside table.
Its on table top, small amount seeped in drawer below. Majority of it is on carpet. I used towel, and water to try to get up what i could. Also notice its smelling funky. Used household sprays to try to get rid of smell but doesnt seem to help. I did google search about smell and coudnt find anything. Surely im not the first one to make this mistake, any replies or suggestions much appreciated. Need to get it cleaned up quick, dont wanna lose my deposit, my lease is up in 6 days.

ok so im building an OCD overdrive, and from gut shot pics, which there are alot of online, they all look like plain carbon film resistors, multilayer ceramics, and mylar greenies. Yet since ive gottten interested in building this pedal, it seems like its one of the top most beloved pedals, seemingly bc of its range from anything from mild boost/overdrive to full on distortion. Im in the process of moving and 90 percent of my stuff is in another state, id like to finish it up, but am i really gonna notice sound difference if i wait and use my Nos silver mica 220pf caps, and wima metal films, vs using cheapo ceramics and couple greenie mylars from radioshack, which is what the actual fulltone uses, i do have kemet metal film 100nfs soldered in, just curious mainly about the pf caps and carbon film resistors, the passive stuff basically. Also the 10uf caps would anyone recommend all tantalums? anything to be gained by them other than size?

General Questions / 3pdt w LED ring

Anyone seen something like this before?

i think its a pretty sweet concept, saves space and wiring inside enclosure, sure ppl will argue that its negligible. But havent seen anything like this before thought id share.

god im frustrated, how can you be an electronics company and be out of resistors?  I just needed a few and was gonna get few of their cheap pots. idk, sure itll show  in stock like monday morning, but i just thought that was f unny

Open Discussion / Sourcing components....
February 08, 2017, 09:01:09 AM
Ok, so id be happy to just order from tayda, with a couple exceptions....First we all know about there resistors. I mean it just kinda really gets me that they can stock good stuff in like every category. except like the cheapest one there is. I dont have to have metal film, I ordered some a 100 pack from the ebay reseller and they were on par with those resistor assortments you get for like 5 bucks. Ive decided when i can affort to make an order at the end of month im going with a large MLCC assortment, im perpetually unorganized and so will order as much stuff in prelabled containers as i can.  the ones im looking at have 5 perent tolerenes and good reviews, i got enough ics, i can afford small bears resistor kits, Id get one of radioshacks they are 15 bucks but they never have them in stock. I never have enough money to make a good bulk order, and end up finding my self buying ala cart and its frustration constantly waiting on things to arrive, always being one or parts short, etc. Ive bben at this going on two years and its starting to become more frustration and fun. replies or tips welcome, pls no saying well  taydas resistors work for me idk what wrong w u n such. Mainly just venting but if anyone has any helpful advice id surly welcome it.

Tech Help - Projects Page / madbeans smoothie
January 13, 2017, 09:43:08 PM
madbeans smoothie , i think version 2, has the white mask

soldered it up and it worked before i installed in enclosure. still working just seems a touch off...

A few components that were slightly different that BOM, i posted here and on DIYSB to ask if the subs would work, first reply was from Steve from smallbear who confirmed, except for one thing, im using a 500k log wired backwards, he said itd work but taper would be ccw and may feel a bit off, which i knew.

200k trimpot instead of 250k

4.7v zener diode

LM1458 philips opamp

3.3m resistor instead of 3.9m

Matched 2n5457s from 1776, it was 2 matched and a third one for their cardinal tremolo.

Everything works just fine, the sweep feels even its just backwards, but the sound just feels a little off. The best way for me to describe it is it doesnt have the texture of a phaser, kinda sterile and a mix between a phaser and a vibe. I built a magnavibe a while back and it was pretty sweet, and ive owned a phase 45 while back and that is the best way i can describe it. I could upload a clip but it would be through my irig hd and amplitube and it doesnt sound the same so it wouldnt help.

Also i was curious oneday so i started swapping fets, i found two j201s that worked, one unused one from smallbear and one i pulled from a $10 dod deathmetal pedal i bought from a pawnshop a while back when i first started building specifically to practice desoldering and just to see what was in it. ive kept them inplace because they sound better than the matched 2n5457s i bought.  My first thought is the op amps, the reason i used the lm1458s is i saw in the original phase 90 lm741s were used, and 1458 is 2 lm741s. Should i order some tl72s? Also ive tried to research exactly how the 3.9m resistor does in terms of the tone of the pedal but i couldnt find anything. Im sure i came across some technical info but i couldnt translate that into how it would effect sound. Sry for the lack of knowledge, i wish i understood things as well as many of yall, but some of thoery behind electronics just makes my head hurt.

Any replies greatly appreciated!

oh parts wise all but a couple values were radioshack 1/8th watt carbon film, i find radioshack resistors to be quite nice.
the few others, i think the 470ks and couple others were random 1/4th watt metal film. 2 10nf were the grey box film tayda, and 2 were some nice multi layer ceramics, i measured and all were spot one, 47 nfs, 3 are the green mylar film, 1 is metal film box , i didnt measure these. the electros were one 10uf and 47uf were from cheapo assorted pack from amazon, but measured spot on, and the other 10uf that is right by the trimpot and zener and opamp is nichinon low profile audio grade, the gold and black colored ones. i did pull it off another board it measured spot on to but has small esr which i looked up and was in range for this exact cap. anyway just wanted to provide all info.

Tech Help - Projects Page / smoothie zener diode
December 21, 2016, 11:13:12 AM
I got one, im waiting for trim pot, had to go with a 200k instead of 250k, fig that will work ok. In the pdf it says click here to download prev version. So i was looking at it and it said you can use a 10k resistor in you didnt have the zener diode. I can get one at radioshack but id rather use the 10k if it will yeild the same result. Also im gonna be using lm1458s, any idea how those will work vs tl072s. I know original mxr phasers used 741s and 1458 is a dual 741. Lastly if one didnt have a rev 500k, what is next best? I have A500k, B500k, A1m, B100k basically everything but a c500k. since it looks like only lugs 2 and 3 are used i guess you cant wire an A500k backwards, its working like a variable resistor is this correct? really appreciate any replies. really wanted to build this for a while but was put off by the trim pot, the speed pot, matched fets, etc. Luckily i got the last set 1776 had in stock, 2 matched 2n5457s plus 1 for 7 bucks shipped. just waiting on trim pot...

General Questions / matched fets for Smoothie Phaser
December 10, 2016, 02:06:58 PM
need matched set of 2n5457s, seeing as they are kinda expensive unless i order bulk from china and dont mind waiting 30 plus days i want to just buy a set. I just found out the 1776 site offers a matched set of 2n5457s plus 1 for their tremolo pedal. Will this work in in smoothie. feel like its a dumb question bc im pretty sure it will be idk much about jfet matching.  found few other sources but id rather go ahead and support Brian i think is your name, bc i feel youve given alot to DIY community and your projects seem to have best documentation and info to know what/where to do for exact parts and support. I wanna go ahead and just order but seeing as its saturday and it wont speed the process up ill just waint and see if any kind person responds.
