Except for the transformers and electrolytic types, I used identical values. Diodes are all 1N5817.
I've looked them over, and I think I have all the values correct. They pass signal, but I have to really dig in for them to respond.
I'm guessing I got a value or two wrong, but nothing's popping out

Voltages (they're almost identical for each)

Q1 - C 8.56
        B 8
        E 5.53

Q2 - C 9.14
        B 8.56
        E 3.20

Q3 - C 2.59
        B 3.20
        E 2.52

Build Reports / Gas Tank and Parallel Junk Trunks
February 08, 2023, 04:44:58 PM
A Gas Tank (Brown Dog clone) into a JMK Paralyzer, with a Junk Trunk (Agent 00Funk clones) in each loop. There's and FX loop between the Gas Tank and Paralyzer, with another between the send of the Paralyzer and second Junk Trunk.

No mods done to the Gas Tank, so it's just that classic gated, clean-blendable fuzz we all know and love.

Mods to the Junk Trunks include:
C2 & C3 replaced with a 2p6t with 1n, 4.7n, 10n, 22n, 47n, and 100n caps selectable. This takes the filter from shrill to thumpy
C6 has been replaced with a toggle to select the stock 4.7u or a 1u for quicker decay
I used Orange LEDs for the peak detector because of their slightly lower vf compared to the Yellows the build docs calls for. This allows a bit more control voltage into the filters from the envelope section
As with the rest of the controls, the added switches are highly interactive with every other parameter
I also used NE5517s in place of the LM13700s, but I don't hear a difference in this circuit.
You'll notice two jacks adjacent to the 9v jack. These were meant to be CV outs from the envelope detector but, they don't seem to work when it's boxed. I'm not too fussed about them, but I will revisit and get them working eventually

First demo shows the range of the cap selectors on a single Junk trunk

This one shows off a bit of the parallel sounds

Audio/Video Demos / Honeydripper with mods
December 29, 2022, 10:57:17 AM
Stock it's a great circuit, though it does have its limitations which I've tried to mitigate with a handful of mods. There are some other things I'd like to try, but I want to wait until I can get my hands on a few more PCBs before experimenting any further, so I can compare and contrast.

So, the mods I've done are
R1 (100K) replaced with a 1M trimmer have it set for 1M in the vid. This is to increase input impedance, and while subtle I do enjoy it

R5- has been increased to 270k for more input gain

R6 has been increased from 4.7k to 270k to give it more zippiness (according to Mark Hammer, though he suggests 220k). Definitely gives it a little something extra

(Ignore)R9- has been replaced with a 250kB pot, I'm calling this balance, as it adjusts the amount of signal going into the lower tuned filter. Highly interactive with the sweep pot, also effects decay time a bit

R18 is 2.2k because that's what I grabbed

R44 (4.7k) has been added between pin 1 of the Sweep pot and ground to limit the signal dumped to ground and increase the usable range

Sweep pot has been changed to Anti-log taper from linear. Value remains 10k

C1 has been increased to 27n to allow more into the circuit

C2 has been decreased to 1n to raise the cutoff of the clipping circuit

D3 & D4 have been changed to BAT46 for a bit more sensitivity

IC1 is LM1458, though TL072 works great here as well

IC2 & IC3 are currently TL974, though I'm still experimenting with those. The 974 seems a bit dirtier than the 324

I'm really hoping this one makes it back to the shop, as it's a wonderful alternative in the world of envelope filters

Edit - Edit- I copy and pasted from my notes app, and didn't catch it. R9- is stock. R22 has been swapped for a pot to effect the gain of the first peak detector. Guess I'll need to relabel that pot

Build Reports / Junk Trunk + Gas Tank
December 15, 2022, 06:31:52 PM
Built pretty much stock- Swapped out C2&3 for 22n for a slightly fatter filter, and used Bat46 in the envelope detector for a bit more sensitivity.

I did try a few other mods (sensitivity pot, cap selector, decay pot), but they really only served to further complicate dialing in the Junk Trunk, so I took em out. I might revisit having C2&3 switchable though
Hardwired the buffered out of the Gas Tank to the envelope in as one does, and stuck an FX loop betwixt the two.

As far as envelope filters go, the 00Funk / Junk Trunk is still my favorite overall just because of how many sounds and textures it's capable of with just four knobs. It does the funky thing, the synthy thing, and can get psychedelic. Smooth to harsh, its pretty danged versatile. Highly recommended for fans of filters

Here I am dickin around with these circuits. Used a baritone Meteora with Alumitone in the bridge, lipstick at the neck. Middle position

Build Reports / Flunkee and the Krakens
December 13, 2022, 05:12:55 PM
So I really wasn't expecting to like the MuTron Micro V (kraken) based solely on video demos I'd seen. Seemed too subdued for my tastes. Glad I was wrong- this things awesome, and fairly unique as far as the filters I've recently built.
They're both mostly stock with the only parts substitutions are R4 and C6- I lowered R4 to 270r and raised C6 to 2n2. I was having issues with the circuits distorting and oscillating with higher range and attack settings, and these two swaps quelled that without sacrificing any of the tones this box is known for.
The only other swaps are I used Bat46 in the pink knobs and Bat41 in the black knob. I played with those to make the circuit a bit more sensitive to dynamics. Of the two, I prefer the 41s.
LM358 in place of the 1458.
And, I also lowered the resistor attached to the Attack pot a smidge, but it doesn't seem terribly noticable.
This box is a ton of fun, though, and I dig the weirdness you can get with the pots at their extremes.

Now, the Flunkee. This is basically identical to PedalPCBs Waddle Box- the only difference being the ability to swap the output of the OTA to the second stage for LPF action. Of the simpler two knobbers, this one's still my favorite, with the LPF mode being the bee's knees. It's funky with just a tinge of synthy bite to it, and it works well with a ton of input signals.
I did tinker with this one quite a bit more, but wanted it to still be an FX25, so....
Swapped out R5- 4k7 to 3k3 for a bit more sensitivity
R19 got changed from 1k to 2k2 to help take the massive volume of the LPF mode
C1 increased to 33n to allow a bit more signal in
C2 increased from 1n to 10n to allow more lows into the envelope detector
C5 reduced from 22u to 10u and placed in parallel with a 270k resistor for snappier decay times
LM358 in place of the 1458 for the envelope detector. Wasn't fond of the ripples and distortion the 1458 was giving
Range increased from 100kb to 500ka for more squonk while avoiding oscillation and distortion.
Sensitivity reduced to 25kb to really focus on the usable portion of the stock 100k

Build Reports / The Madbeans I've built this week
August 05, 2022, 05:04:45 PM
In order- Gas Tank, Glitchee, Boom Boom, Junk Trunk, Tone Virus, Honeydripper, Burly Bear. I've been on a huge envelope filter, octave fuzz, and PLL trip lately

Just boxed one of each of these up in separate enclosures. They both work wonderfully individually, without the envelope jack enabled. But when I do have a cable inserted the Junk Trunk only sweeps if the Gas Tank is also engaged. Otherwise, it's just a fixed wah.
I'm using these jacks - https://smallbear-electronics.mybigcommerce.com/1-4-in-stereo-nys212/

EDIT: I used the wrong bypass scheme for the Gas Tank  ::)

Specifically curious about the dirt section, as I've got a few extra Rat pcbs, and I don't really need that many straight up rats. So, anyone built the dirt section from the juggernaut? The vids I've seen sound pretty heavy and brutal, but it doesn't get good reviews.

Also, any other out there mods I could perform to the other boards I have. Not interested in the Ruetz or clipping options, I have all those covered

Edit: I am considering also swapping all applicable values to those of the MXR dist+ but still using a 308

Build Reports / Expandora / Muff
May 29, 2017, 03:56:12 PM
JMK Expandora into a Rullywow Muff Opportunity in a 1590D. Wiring's not the tidiest, most of the leads could probably be cut down to half. Still deciding whether I want to label and apply graphics

I decided I didnt care for either the crunch or overdrive modes on the Expandora, so I made only the distortion and forbidden settings footswitchable. Still waiting on my LM308h's from SmallBear, right now it's sitting with a pair of OP07s. This one's stock except for the clipping diodes, which I've swapped out for a red/ white LED pair. Considering changing out the 1uf at the ouptut for a 10uf.

The Muff has had a few things changed out for clarity, and more of a metallic, grinding fuzz texture. Chips in this one are LM1458 and OP07. Didn't have a 120n box cap on hand, so had to use a greenie.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Mooring modulation

So, I'm building a Moodring soon, and was wondering what MOD boards could be used within. I've seen the posts about the GC board being used, just curious about other options
