Hi everyone,
So I built this Madbean Cave Dweller back in 2016 and it had a fair bit of noise when I used a power supply. I ended up making Chromosphere's Power Pellet to reduce this, which it did nicely. I also made a quick 9V battery jack plug which worked too. No noise.
FFWD to yesterday. My wife gave me a Joyo JP05 rechargable power supply. Plug in the Cave Dweller and it gives out some mad power supply hissing when engaged. If I plug in another diy effect, Dead Astronaut's Tremshifter, no noise, so I'm sure I can scratch the supply as being the culprit.

Apart from hooking up the power pellet again, is there anything I should look at in the cavedweller circuit to reduce noise?
Thanks in advance!

How Do I? Beginner's Paradise. / Cave Dweller
June 24, 2016, 08:38:40 PM
Just bought a couple of Cave Dweller PCB's last night. One for myself and a mate.
Ordering parts, and the LM78L05 was near impossible to find. My question is would the L78L05 work in it's place?

Also couldn't find the right 9mm pots, so this one's using off-pcb pots and going in a slightly larger box. (more room for artwork, I tell myself).
Still residing in noob land.

Hi guys. First pedal build here.
Right, so after a bunch of misordered gear, I finally have my berserker fuzz pedal wired up.
I got it into the box last night and had it working. Woohoo! Soundwise, it's pretty cool, but I think I probably should've gone for something like a big Muff (being a bit of a grunge fiend).
This morning I'm playing with the dial settings, getting lots of squeals and sirens... aaaaaand then it stops working. Dammit!
No time to check it as I have to take my son to soccer. Vaguely watching the match thinking about pedals the whole time. Then off to a kids party up the coast... thinking about pedals there too, just itching to leave.

Finally home now. Give it another try. Pedal not working. Bypass kinda working.... sometimes.
Okay. I didn't really want to get into fault finding so soon into this hobby, but here goes.

Introductions / Hi from Sydney
March 30, 2016, 02:53:06 AM
Hi guys,
After a year or so of procrastinating, I got busy over the Easter long weekend and built a Noisy Cricket.
The thing is a bit of a birds nest inside, but it sounds pretty fantastic. I liked the idea of the "betta bass" capacitor mods, so I added a rotary switch with the 3 caps, and led indication.
I've got it running through the 12" celestion in my Ampeg combo, and I'm impressed with the sound.

I also have a berserker Fuzz pedal from Diyguitarpedals.com.au that's 90% complete. I didn't want to risk killing my amp testing it, so the Noisy Cricket was completed first as my testing amp.

Anyway, hope this little hobby doesn't end up as big as my last obsession (brewing).
Cheers
