Hello everybody,

Because of the pandemic my employer puts me on hold until better days so I've got plenty of times and decided to try to get back at building pedals.
I've been succesful with a Tractor Beam and a Decimator clone (really effective noise gate btw).
So, following that path, I was confident in trying a Pork Barrel 2015 rev.1 that was sitting in my drawer next to a couple of MN3007 and MN3101 that I've traded with a fellow madbeanforum user some years ago.

Everything went well while soldering, but once I fired it up : fail !

I can hear a tiny change of sound when I engage the effect, like the Depth is kind of working, but oscillations are very weak and almost inaudible, it's almost a dry signal.
The LFO Led is blinking so I'm guessing the LFO is working though.
I've double check my soldering and resolder some joint, but still the same.

So I've made some measures and notice that Pin 6 on clock is way off, so is collector on Q5 (and maybe emitter on Q3)

If you guys have some time, could you please point me in the right direction to debug this one ?

Thx

Hello all,

After almost a year away from the workbench, I'm back with an aquaboy.

Everything went well so far, voltages were consistent with the build doc and I've got sound and delays.
Freq . is 6.6Hz and the pedals is running at 9V.
But since I started to calibrate with audio probing, delays are now weak and distorted, Pin3 and 4 of the Mn3005 are at 8.40V and Pin7 is 5.3V.

If I audio probe on pin7, I've got a clean sound.

Is it possible that I've fried the mn3005 Chip while calibrating ?

Thank

Build Reports / The Merman always rings twice

Another VFE project. As always, this a very versatile pedal. I use it in front of the amp as a mild overdrive and it sounds nice.

Build Reports / Mudbunny and Current Lover
December 03, 2017, 01:39:07 PM
Hello hello,

So I was in a EHX style mood lately :)

Here is a mudbunny build with P19 specs and a Current Lover.
Both sound pretty good, I still have to calibrate the current lover more precisely to get rid of some noise/chirp.

I also need to learn how to screw a 3PDT bolt without skrewing the varnish !

VFE Projects / Choral Reef not Chorusing
November 15, 2017, 03:35:03 AM
Hi All,

So, this weekend I've finally built the Choral Reef, but the only sound that I can get is almost like if Flipper the Dolphin was inside and wanted to communicate ! A kind of a tiny whinning.
The bypass signal is Ok though.

i've double checked my soldering and it seems to be okay.

However they're are some voltages that  have not the value that they should have :

Build Reports / Flare Facctory

Hey,

Back in 2009 (or 2010 I don't remember), I've discovered MadBean and ordered a Zombii PCB.
They were home etched at the time !
And that was it, the first of a long serie !

Today I've opened this old pedal to pick out the AC128s and install them in the Aion version of the Fuzz Factory, and here we are :

Open Discussion / Overdrive Pedal Signature Waveform
September 02, 2017, 02:00:51 AM
Hello,

I just stumbled on this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-P3Ile4dfA
Jacques, from the french pedal brand "Jacques" started a new show on youtube where he plugs several overdrive pedals into an osciloscope to compare waveforms.
I thought maybe you'll find it interesting.
I think there's going to be a lot of shows since the guy has an enormous pedal collection (as he said in a documentary : almost every pedals ever made)

Hello there,

Do you guys have an idea where we can find those Neutrik jacks in Europe ?
I've found the NMJ6HCD2, NMJ6HCD2-S, but not the NMJ6HCD2-SM on the websites that I know of.
I know that mouser provides, but with the shipping cost, I can almost buy a plane ticket to go to the shop takeaway ! :)

Well, I've been busy for two weekends !

I'm very happy with the three of them, especially the quadrovibe because it's the first pedal that I've etched and debugged all by myself.
All of them sounds awesome, I love the Pale Horse, best overdrive I've ever had.

Thanks again Brian and Peter for those.

Hi,

I finally get to build the moodring that was sitting on my desk for quite a while now.

The effect works pretty well. Still, I've checked the voltage and noticed two differences with Brian values.

I find 2.22v dropping to 1.6v on pin 5 of IC4 and 2.52v on pin 3 on IC4. Every other IC are in the range of Brian's value.

I've suspected R27 to be faulty for pin5 so I've replaced it but no change.

Does any of you guys have any clues ?

(Maybe it's not that bad since I found the effect to be nice :-))

Thx

Build Reports / Chunk Chunk with mods
April 12, 2014, 04:15:38 PM
Hi,

I've made a couple of pedals during the lasts months, but this is the first one I'm happy enough with to post a build report.
This is a Chunk Chunk with the bass mod and dual gain/volume.
I wanted a Mesa rectifier style enclosure, so I made one... But now I have to figure out how to make some room on the pedalboard, because it's kind of huge :)
It's not perfect but regarding my "DoIyYourself skills", I'm quite happy :)

Tech Help - Projects Page / Cherry Bomb input level mod ?
February 04, 2014, 02:08:45 PM
Hello all,

I'm not quite the active guy on this board since I'm basicaly learning for now, but I read a lot of posts and thanks to you I managed to succesfully build and debug a bunch of pedal. I even managed to finish the first pcb I bought back in 2010 which was the Zombii ! (back then it didn't worked at all).

One of the pedal I made is the Cherry Bomb in which I put some Germanium transistors. I like the sound a lot, it's little fuzzy in the bottom and has some "brillance" on the top. I use it for single coil bluesy crunch. But I noticed that when I switch to humbuckers or when I strum stronger, the sound lowers on the attack, a little bit like there is a compressor in front of it.

I'm starting to think that this symptom is caused by too much guitar signal in the input of the pedal and I was wondering if a input level trimmer could be added to the build.

So I give a look on the schematic (which looks like hebrew to me, not as much as a few weeks ago, but still !), and I'm thinking of replacing R3 with a 500k trimmer.

Do you think this will do the trick ?

Hi there,

I'm planning to build some of the projects from this great website, starting with the aristocrat.
But I'm a kind of a noob in electronic. I know how to solder and so, but regarding the choice of capacitator and resistor, I'm totally lost.

I'm guessing that C8, C10, C11 and C19 are electrolytics, but the other ones... Film ? Tantalum ? I have no ideas.
If anyone got the time to answer I'll appreciate a lot.

Thanks
