Open Discussion / A prayer to Madbean
February 09, 2020, 05:14:17 PM
Hi guys.
I have a prayer to Madbean: make these 3 fv1 pedals!

1) Tape Delay with mod, DMM style delay with mod, reverse delay

2) Spring reverb, plate reverb with modulation, shimmer.

3) Leslie, TZF, something Electric mistress-style

These are the things i would really love to see, i tried to make them myself on Spincad but with modest results

Hi guys.
Recently i was really into Doyle Bramhall II, and in his Reverb interview he talked about the Zonk Machine as a secret weapon.
So i decided to build a Tone Bender MK1 just to see what it is.
I didn't have fancy 60s transistors, so i used some russian ones. They say you need leakage for MK1, but these are very low.

Hi guys.
I've never been satisfied with my wah, so i bought a Red Fasel.
Then i measured both, the new fasel and the old Halo.
The Halo is 820mH, the Red Fasel only 44mH !!! I thought it was an error and i tried several times, but that's the value.

For several reasons i cannot send it back, what do i do now?
I was thinking about making it work, like maybe using a 100nf cap instead of a 10nf.

What do you think?

Could we just use 2 mn3009 in series to obtain 512 stages?

Hi guys.
I have a wonderful Tone Bender mk3 with trannies from SmallBear, but i'm getting tired of it.
I want a mk1 right now, so i was thinking about using those transistors.
I measured, and they read:
Q1 - 76 hfe, 68mA
Q2 - 122 hfe, 48mA
Q3 - 127 hfe, 70mA

Are they good for a mk1? (i mean good for a very good mk1)
(also, aren't they a lot of gain for a mk3?)

Hi guys.
So, i built a ram's head last year, but it never sounded good to me.
A few weeks ago i've subbed the transistors with 2n2222, and that thing is Heaven now.

Then i've built a russian green muff with bc239b, and it sounds like good, but it doesn't feel "right".
These transistors have HFE between 250-280.

What is the "right" HFE for a russian big muff?

Hi guys.
A friend of mine asked to make him a clone of the mutron wah-volume, he's a sonic youth fan.
I don't know much about it, i never tried one.
I'm not sure how to do it, i was thing about removing the optical thing, and sub with something like the Harbinger 2 arrangement driving 2 vtl5c3. But i never tried even that, so, i'm not sure about what to do.

Suggestions and advices are appreciated.
Thanks

Hi guys.
I don't understand, is the 2n5088 out of production?
They seem a lot harder to get

Open Discussion / So, i have built an Octavia..
April 06, 2019, 01:35:29 PM
So, i have built an Octavia and it sounds strange, like super-broken.
With the Fuzz control at max it is super-squashed. I was hoping for some Hendrix sounds, but it is much heavier.
The silver lining is that it sounds like what i wished the Superfuzz would sound.
Definitely not a loss.

Hi guys.
I am reworking my pedalboard in a Hendrix/Van Halen direction and i want an octaver fuzz.
Currently I have a Superfuzz (awesome) but it's too much. The first choice would an Octavia, but i'm not sure.
I don't have any experience with the Wyllie Moonrock, but i'm interested.

I'm open to suggestions. What do you think?

February 08, 2019, 01:51:23 PM
Maybe it's a well known video, i don't know, but i found out this comparison between 2 Small Clone, one with the SAD1024 and the other with MN3007.

Open Discussion / Disappointed by the modern flangers
February 03, 2019, 03:00:45 PM
I'm very disappointed by modern flangers.
I built the Mxr and Ehx projects, i bought a MXR reissue, and some digital ones: no one of them sounds appealing to me.
I hear the demos of the old flangers on YT, the ones with SAD1024, and they sound glorious!
The modern ones are just glorified chorus to me.
Digital just doesn't do it for me.

I just hope somebody will remake the SAD BBDs

(i don't know why i wrote this post, i'm just sad after playing )

Hi guys.
I'm having some issues with my Fuzz Face, i could use the correct voltages for Q1.
Thanks

Ok, i'm very angry.
I sold my rangemaster to a friend (because he really wanted it and he's a good friend), so i bought
another Transistor from SmallBear.
Today i got it and i found out I bought a NPN !

What am i gonna do? how do they sound compared to PNP?

I'm very disappointed of myself  :-[

Open Discussion / 60s style OD. suggestions?
January 12, 2019, 02:28:23 PM
Hi guys.
My pedalboard dirt-side consists in:
Rangemaster-Superfuzz-BigMuff-FuzzFace-ToneBender3-HBOD-Dyna red distortion.
this is a wonderful chain, and i'm very happy.
I'm looking for something like a 60s-style OD sound.
Any suggestion?

Open Discussion / PedalPCB D3lay. How does it sound?
November 25, 2018, 05:44:56 AM
Hi guys.
I don't need another pedal, but i've seen that a shop in EU holds kits for PedalPCB's projects.
I was looking at that D3lay, and i have a few questions:
-how does it sound? is it comparable to CB belle epoch?
-are there any demos around?
-does it fit in a 1590b, with jacks on the side?

Open Discussion / Buffer before Ge pedals?? RM is crazy
November 16, 2017, 05:28:20 AM
Hi guys. I have 3 Ge pedals: ToneBender mk3, FuzzFace, Rangemaster.
Every time they get a pedal in front of them, they get crazy! TB and FF are fine, I like them this way; but the RM is a mess! It sounds like a cooked wah and with a buffer before becomes a treble nightmare.
Why is that? What can i do about it? Should i embrace this and build a buffer inside, therefore adjusting LP and HI pass filters?

Open Discussion / Switching PS are noisier?
October 26, 2017, 01:48:14 AM
Hi guys. I'm looking for a new power supply for my pedalboard.
I see there are 2 types of PS: regulated and switching. It seems to me that switching types are smaller but noisier, do your experience confirm this theory?
