VFE Projects / Triumvirate Enclosure Drill Guide?
September 09, 2019, 08:20:53 AM
Hi there, I've had the Triumvirate sitting on my desk for a long time now because I've been waiting for the correct 9mm pots.

Anyhow, I was wondering if there's a drill guide for these projects? I've noticed a fair few of them have the same layout (mixture of 16mm and 9mm pots).. I'm sorry if this has been right in front of me the whole time, but I've looked through the VFE build guide and the Triumvirate guide and there's nothing there. I also saw Brian mention that he created a drill guide in the VFE FAQ sticky forum post but couldn't find a link or anything there?

Thanks in advance :)

VFE Projects / Klein Bottle problem :(
September 06, 2019, 11:17:26 PM
So I've just finished putting my Klein Bottle together but unfortunately I'm having some issues.

There's output when I plug the guitar into the input and the Master Volume pot is responsive but when I try to engage the footswitches the LEDs don't light up. I haven't got any pedals plugged into the in/outs but I don't think the input jacks are switching so I don't think that would be the issue. I put the LEDs Cathode into the square pad and the Anode into the circular pad, could I have installed them the wrong way?

I'm trying to decipher the schematic to attempt to trace the problem. Trying to work out where to start.. the power input is the top left of the schematic, right? I checked with a DMM to see if I'm getting 9V at the input and that seems fine.

If anyone has any tips on how I should go about tracing the problem I'd really appreciate it. Hopefully this could be a great learning experience in troubleshooting circuits! Anyway, looking forward to hearing back, thanks in advance :)

VFE Projects / Klein Bottle SMD Question
July 25, 2019, 04:35:47 AM
Just started assembling my Klein Bottle! I have some SMD questions though..

I'm totally inexperienced when it comes to SMD but regardless I decided to challenge myself! Anyway, I soldered all the chips in and I thought I would use the continuity tester on each pin to make sure there were no bridges. I found that on a few of the chips the continuity tester was beeping on the first couple of pins. I tried using a wick to attempt to remedy this but had no luck.

So I decided to get a hot air rework station to remove the chips and clean up the surface in order to try again. My question is will I damage the IC's removing them this way? I'm hoping I can reuse the same chips and just be a bit more careful 2nd time around. Any advice appreciated!

Just got my Gravity Wave all wired up but unfortunately I've run into an issue..

I'm getting audio when the effect is bypassed but nothing when engaged. I can hear LFO rate modulation in time with hiss/hum but that's all. I'm definitely plugged into the correct input/output. I've checked for solder bridges but I think I'm ok..all the 'bridges' I came across seem to be forgivable because they are attached to the same track.

I made the changes to components recommended to avoid dimension pot 'motor boating' of the Dimension pot. I think it was a 4.7uF MLCC and a 3.3nf cap in place of a 470nf and 330nf. Everything else remains standard. I've attached pictures of PCB front/back.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them. Thanks :)

Tech Help - Etcher's Paradise / Gravity Wave Wiring
June 27, 2019, 02:55:54 AM
Could someone please explain to me how the VC pad is wired? I'm actually not 100% on the entire thing to be honest. I have attached an off board wiring image from tagboardeffects.. is it similar to that? Cheers :)

Tech Help - Etcher's Paradise / Loophole Detune
June 21, 2019, 06:48:03 PM
Hi there! This is the 2nd Loophole I've built (this one is for a friend) and I'm having the exact same problem with both! The detune momentary doesn't work :( I had a look around the forum and found that I'm not alone but didn't see that anyone had solved the problem? I guess I just wanted to see if there is any more knowledge on the subject before I give up completely. It's not the end of the world because I don't think I'd even use it but it'd be nice to have it working. I think it's got something to do with the 22R resistor, right?

Just had a 2nd attempt at calibrating my Total Recall by ear with Audio Probe as per documentation instructions and I think I've got it this time. Just wanted to clarify something.. the first time I tried I followed the instructions exactly but I had trouble setting the Gain2 trimpot right at the end, matching pin7 of IC7 with pin1 of IC4. However, I had a browse through the forums here on the subject and found someone had posted that there was a mistake in the documentation and really you should be matching pin7 with pins 14/15 of IC2 (NE570)? Doing it this way I got much closer to matching volume levels and if this is correct could we possibly get the documentation updated? If someone could confirm this is correct I'd really appreciate it!

Tech Help - Etcher's Paradise / Loophole LEDs
May 16, 2019, 01:27:21 AM
I've just completed a 'Loophole' but I'm having an issue where both the red and green LEDs are illuminated when in Record mode. Play mode seems to be fine, only the green LED lights up. I've had a look to see if I had a solder bridge between the LED connector pads but it doesn't seem to be the problem.. not 100% though. Please excuse my terrible soldering job, this is my first project using an etched board! Everything else works apart from the detune momentary switch because I think I may have overheated one of the pads. The LED thing isn't the end of the world but I just thought I'd post in case anyone had any ideas? Thanks :)
