Tech Help - Etcher's Paradise / Quasar v3 help?
September 03, 2021, 10:38:14 PM
Just finished building the Quasar V3. Had a few issues with the etch but i've added some jumpers and the circuit seems to be 90% working. But i have some issues i would like advice on

1) The drive knob is working counter clockwise. Is this normal? ie i get more gain turning clockwise.

2) if i have the bass knob over 95% the volume drops. Ive replaced the pot and i still have the issue.

Just finished up the multiplex Jr from 1776 but the rate led isn't blinking. It just stays lit the whole time.

Pedal sounds great. Modulation is working and the epth/speed knobs are working too. What should I be looking for to get the rate light blinking. I've jumpered the switch (having modulation always on) could that be why?

Thanks!

I managed to use 5mm (lead spacing) box caps for the Cavedweller 1 & 2. But it looks like i'll need to order some smaller caps for the Dub edition. Whats recommended? I have low profile elec's but will need to grab somethings for the NF values?

Thanks!

Is there a etch layout for the 2015 version of the Cavedweller? Would love a link to it if so.

I plan to make the Cavedweller (2012) as my next project but from all the things ive read everyone seems to really like the 2015 version. Or are there any other projects that have distorted/darker repeats?

I made a deep blue delay clone (effectsblogspot layout) that had some really cool sounding distorted repeats when the controls were near max settings. Unfortunately i ruined the board trying to fix an error (that layout didnt mention the pin 3+4 ground issue with the 2399). Since then ive been on the lookout for a delay that could come close to that. I've tried making that same circuit again but haven't been able to capture that magic. I think that particular 2399 i was using the main reason it was distorting, unfortunately i broke its legs when trying to find the pin/ground error.

Thanks!

I tried etching for the first time last yr but had troubles, not sure if it was my old printer or the paper i was using but either way it didnt work out for me. I recently decided to give it another go after getting a new laser printer. First time i tried using some glossy magazine paper but it didnt work out well, next try i used some leftover contact paper backing (shiny side) i had bought from bunnings (remove the self adhesive paper and use the shiny side of the backing paper to print on), did the heat transfer method (clothes iron set to maximum) and it worked great. I then etched using 2 parts hydrogen peroxide to 1 part hydrochloric acid (*remember to add acid to water).

The brand of contact paper was "Boyle 1.5m x 45cm Self Adhesive Film"  bought form Bunnings (craft section)
Printer was a Brother HL-L2305W mono laser printer from Office Works
Hydrochloric acid can be bought from bunnings in the pool section.
Hydrogen Peroxide can be bought from most supermarkets/chemists.

**Be sure to wear rubber gloves, eye protection when using the Hydrochloric Acid+Hydrogen Peroxide mix, and dip in water/bi carb soda after etching. Again, add acid to water when mixing Hydrochloric Acid+Hydrogen Peroxide. Lastly, dont use a metallic container to etch in.

Just thought id share what worked for me. Cheers!
