Build Reports / Harmonic Percolator
January 03, 2017, 05:09:45 PM
Haven't posted here in quite awhile. Having seen cajone5's build awhile back, I really got the itch to revisit this circuit. I think the other one I had built was on a pepperspray board I etched and I built it to the Albini spec. Thought it was nice but a bit underwhelmed as it was lacking the FUZZ.

I don't have time to build much these days but spent over a month tinkering with the circuit on the breadboard, researching the old threads, etc. Settled with something close to the George Giblet schematic which I believe is the stock schematic on the pepperspray doc. Used some different values here and there but really love the way it turned out all around and now want to build more of them since its such a small parts count circuit. I even bought some slider pots for one of the future ones!

Etching the steel super fuzz style enclosure was horrible as the first attempt was a fail and had to sand it down but got it better the 2nd time around. Forgot how those really only etch to certain depth and then nothing seems to happen.

Anyways, I love this circuit. Totally beautiful and nasty at the same time. The harmonics control is pretty awesome as it sounds amazing full bore or backed off. Big thanks to cajone5 as I don't have time to build much these days and your build inspired me to take on this fun project! Sorry for the big ass pics!

Build Reports / Schumann PLL clone
December 14, 2014, 11:14:18 PM

Built this awhile back. Had a couple of these board for a good while. While building this one, I have had a breadboard version going, as well, so there's a few mods that sound better (or are more noticeable) on the breadboard version. The pedal sounds good but maybe just ok for such a huge footprint. I have been tweaking the breadboard version for over a year and a half or so and have always wanted to find a better version to box, but it has been too daunting or undecided. Really fun and fun at certain settings but definitely a circuit that could be refined for the better.

The box is a working version with a megalith on the back end. Gonna switch out the Megalith for a tone machine eventually.

The guts are also quite messy, had to redo everything after the first population since it didn't work but it works and was a little adventure...

I let my friend borrow a couple of pedals for recording but he said he didn't use them because he didn't have the right power supply. Now that they are returned my Lowrider has a weird power problem. I measured the jack with my one spot and got no reading. I changed out the DC jack and have the same issue when I connect the 9v wire coming from the board to the jack. When I disconnect it, I get a good 9volt reading. Now, if my friend "accidentally" used a power supply with way too many volts would fried components cause this to happen? It seems like i would still get a proper measurement when the 9v wire was connected. This is annoying.

Thanks for any help,
Richard

Build Reports / Warhead Vibe & Bumblebee

This is my first build post for this forum. I usually hang at DIYstomp and i love fuzz. Madbean's project are really awesome.  I finished these in the last week.  Both sound absolutely killer!

That's basically it. Two of the trimmers are controlling the intensity of the lamp brightness but when
playing the lamp doesn't pulse at all.  It's just stays on. Is there a common mistake that I could have made to cause this?

Tech Help - Projects Page / Warhead transistor question

I have a populated board.  I accidentally ordered 5089s and no 88's.  I soldered the 89's in all of the 88 spots.  Does anyone know how this will effect the sound?  I may pull em and get some 88's before I do the wiring.  Or I'll leave em if you guys think it's ok....

Thanks!

I am order parts for this one but Small Bear is out of the Alpha Dual-Gang 16mm Solder Terminals 100K Rev Audio.  DOes anyone know where I can find one of these?  Couldn't find it at Mouser, PPP, or Mammoth.

Thanks,
Richard
