I found an old Nobels that needs a new volume pot- It has a strange potentiometer in it- and neither 9mm or the 16mm are gonna work well.  Can anyone tell me where to get a pot that will work well here- the stock ones have a plastic D shaft thats a good bit longer than the 9mm pots and they dont need a nut.  The picture ive attached shows a standard 9mm pc mount that I tried to use on top- the bottom pot is the one I'm trying to find one similar to in 50kA.

What happened to the bacon bits!?!?  That was one of my favorite madbean projects of all time!!!  Seriously the best booster I've ever used.  Is it based off something that I can build on vero?  is it discontinued?  Anyone got any extras?

I built the Pedal Pcb Octagon a while back- and I'm having a strange noise issue.  I get a lot of white noise when using this circuit.  I've tried increasing filtering with little success.  But one weird thing about it- when I put my  super low impedance "jerry garcia tiger buffer" (just an opamp buffer) right in front of it I get drastically less noise.  Also the tone of the pedal completely changes- with the buffer on in front of the circuit it sounds MUCH brighter (like its supposed to sound brighter not unnaturally bright) I didnt notice how muffled it was until I tried the buffer in front of it- and I'm not talking about like yeh a buffer will make your signal brighter with long cable runs- without the buffer it sounds like there's 200ft of cable.

The noise isnt constant- when I turn down the mix I get less noise- when I turn down the volume I get less noise. 

I emailed the dude at pedal pcb a few times- and he said he had never had anyone having any issues with noise.  Wondering if anyone out there has had the same issue?

I'm positive I have every part 100% correct as I built this about a year ago initially and have revisited it about 20 times and checked the layout at least 40x over.  This is the most thoroughly checked build I've ever done- if it didnt have an fv1 and a purchased pcb this would have been in the trash 10 months ago

so any input or ideas on the fv-1 and noise would be greatly appreciated!

nevermind i think i got it-

this was confusing with the voltage test thing on one side of the pickup i got opposite readings than the other... I didnt know it mattered which side of the pole you touched... or if it does or not- i just have to assume the north - is connected to the shield

I recently populated the board for one of pickdroppers baby muffs.  and I had to do some research to get the mids pot to work- you gottasub the 10n for a 22n cap at c10 and change a resistor to like 2k.

Anyways- I have built a few muffs recently with this mids control, but I seem to remember liking all the skreddy vero clones I built that just put 3 caps on a 3 way dpdt toggle switch- 4n7 for stock scooped mids, another 4n7 in parallel with first for flat mids, and a 10n for 14n7 and boosted mids.  You leave all the other resistors the same. 

I feel like something gets lost with the variable resistor controlling the mids. 

Is there anything to this?  Or any knowledge as to how they would sound different or if that would change the eq curve? 

I tried going to the tone stack calculator but I have a mac and its windows only.

Just trying to figure out if its all in my head and I'm just not getting the pot in the right spots to get the good boosted mids sounds!  thanks a bunch guys!

I need to replace the tone control in my strat- I have a master tone as the other two slots are taken by vol control and a 6 way rotary switch that gives me a ton of pickup combinations (super useful)

I was thinking I'd like to replace it with a TBX control.  as i investigated i found the G&L PTB (passive treble bass control) that is designed around two pots so you can cut treble and bass at the same time- that seemed better.

I started looking for conentric stacked potentiometers.  But there really arent many made. 

The PTB officially calls for 1MC pot for the hi pass (bass cut) and a 500kA for the low pass (treble cut).  I'm sure with my single coil and p90 bridge strat I can get away with 250kA for the treble cut.  But I'm worried about this 1MC bass cut pot

The only concentric pots I can find are....
250kA/500kA
500kA/500kA
100k(?)/1M(?) - these are made for danelectros (they must spend some money on those 2 pickup reissues electroncis- they have 2 concentric pots (and the knobs) on each one- doesnt even work very well.

Anyways.  Do you guys think the audio taper will be okay for the bass cut pot with 500k?  should I go for the 100k/1M...

OR

Is this gonna be jacked up and I should just give in to the standard fender TBX?  (you can only do either treble or bass cut- cant use both at the same time)

Any input would be greatly appreciated before I start having to experiemnt- I hate taking off a strat pickguard and putting strings back on- such a PITA- id probably just say fuck it and put in a regular tone pot heh

So I want to get the best volume pedal swell I can get.  I'm planning on placing it after a compressor for the most part and wouldnt be opposed to using a buffer before it.  (i use a couple germanium pedals semi often like a tonebender and sometimes a germ fuzz face).

Would the compressor alone warrant using the 25k ernie ball? Or should I get a 25k EB and also put a buffer inside?  pretty much anytime I'm using it for swells or volume control there will be a pedal on before it.

What do you all think?  what would be the best choice for mostly swell work with my setup?  maybe even a different volume pedal?  I had a george dennis at one point and an optical goodrich at one point (both optical) and I didnt like either of them they both had uneven tapers

I ended up buying some pedals.  There arent any schematics out there for them and they are way beyond my tracing abilities.  Is there anywhere I could post pictures of the boards where I may find people that would be interested in tracing them?

I have a cbread echorec, keeley neutrino, and can access the cbread talisman and valcoder.

I'm gona attempt to trace the valcoder- and I know the mutron has been done but I think the neutrino is a fantastic modern version of it.  But the others are out of my league.  Thought Id offer to put the pics out there.

Personally I'm looking for a lower profile option to make it easier to fit a buffer onboard a guitar so I dont need to route the pickup cavity- i was thinking itd also be cool to add a usb jack or have it easily removeable for recharging.

With all the different power requirements and the noise and cost of good power supplies.  I figured this would be a topic discussed somewhere.   I cant find anything though- can anyone point me in the right direction if youve seen this utilized or discussed on another forum?

I just got some access to a laser engraver at my work.  I have no experience with it, but my boss does.  I was wondering where you all find artwork to etch with.  Is there a good art website or something I'm missing out on?  I see some amazing black and white artwork but I can't find a ton of it online.  Or are you all editing stuff in graphics software to be etchable?

i've found afew threads on laser etching enclosures but not a ton, maybe I'm missing out on some good discussions on this site?

anyone have any ideas for powering an onboard buffer besides a 9v battery?  I was thinking maybe some watch batteries or a lithium battery- really the goal would be to be compact or flatter than a 9v so i can fit it into my strat that will have some other mods.

i see fishman has a rechargeable lithium battery pack for their fluence pickups that replaces the tremolo cover on a strat- pretty cool... but $100

I bought some russian germaniums gt308 or something back in the day.  they were super teeny tiny and i remember them actually sounding pretty good.  I'm trying to build the stubbii.  I found the gt308 but i'm not sure if those are the ones I used- does anyone have any good sounding experience with some uber small russian transistors.

I recently got a new strat (american standard in aztec gold!) its a beauty, unlike my old strat with the swimming pool route this one is routed H/S/H.  I am wanting to install a jerry garcia tiger style preamp in this guitar and I need to power it somehow- the 9v fit under the pickguard between the neck and middle pickup on the last guitar but I dont think that's gonna work now. 

Im wondering if anyone has tried any alternative powering options for a 9v circuit?  maybe some different batteries?  I dont believe the circuit pulls much current at all so i'm not too worried about cost of replacement.  maybe three cr2032's?  would i just kill those all the time?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I just received pcbs for the duovibe and the grease gun.  I looked forever and found the grease gun but apparently forgot to save it, still havent found the docs for the duovibe.  Can anyone hook me up?  Im having some trouble with hosted images- that may be the problem.

Anyone know anything about the Dark Echo?  to me it sounds like a pt2399 based delay- and it has 450ms of delay time, which would make it longer than a single 3005 and shorter than a dual... and definitely shorter than another digital chip.

can anyone confirm this?

what about the sweet modulation circuit?  sounds like a very slow "swaying" modulation- seems kinda unique.  I'd love to learn more about it as I'm trying to implement some sort of cool modulation into a pt2399+boost pedal.

Im looking to build a simple 3 knob delay that sounds echoplex'ish along with the echoplex preamp circuit in front of it.  Are there any pcb's out there that accomplish both of these tasks?  Or a recommendation for a simple delay to combine with say a fatpants build?  I dont need modulation on the delay.

I read about the new dunlop echoplex pedal and even it admits that the echoplex preamp sound is only applied to the delay signal and for the full effect by their echoplex preamp pedal to play in front of their echoplex delay pedal.

Ive looked but im unsure the easiest way to complete this task?  Also- wouldnt running a fatpants before a pt2399 delay cause it to clip and distort out?

I am trying to build a zen drive again (havent had one in years- and I was just thinking- damn that was a great OD) So I go to measure the forward voltage drop of the bat41's I have on hand- and they measure .22Vf- which seems pretty low.  So I googled and it looks like bat41's should be around .4Vf or so...? 

Can anyone tell me if these tayda bat41's are too low?  I know theyll work and possibly sound good, but i want a spot on zen.  Tayda has also sent me 1n914's that measure .3Vf and 1n34a's that measure .6Vf.  Some of them dont even look right- I have some red bat41's (look like 1n4148's) that measure .25 and some 1n4148's that look like 1n60's that measure something way low.

I did find some other bat41's in my stash that are measuring .35Vf.  are those good?  Thanks!!

Looking at the wampler black 65 project.  The parts list doesnt have anything for the bass potentiometer and the schematic says its 100kA but all the other tone pots are linear.  Is log correct on this pot?

I am finally gonna put all my stuff on a real pedalboard and I was looking at some cable option.  I've always been pretty terrible at soldering my own cables historically maybe i'm trying the wrong plugs.  Anyways- I was looking at some solderless cable kits and randomly came across this PYLE brand kit thats like $35 for 10 plugs and either 10' or 15' of cable.  Has anyone tried this stuff?  quite a bit cheaper than george L's.
