I have a weener wah that I've enjoyed for many years now. It is a board I bought pre-built from someone on here and then I went overboard with every possible mod I could think of. LEDs for on/off. The fancy little switch for using it with fuzz. An LED lit switch for the "Q" thingy that I never fully understood how to use. It's got a lot going on. For years it was awesome. Then it got scratchy and I thought it was the pot so swapped it out for a real fancy one that was fully sealed. That fixed it.

Now it's scratchy again and I can't clean this pot since it's sealed.

I don't think it's the pot. I think it's more likely that the wah has so much going on in there that it's making some weird sounds come through. Why do I think this? Well, when I take the pot off the track and twist it around with my hand it very clearly dials in a loud mexican radio station thru my amp. I know these things can happen but it's pretty extreme.

Does this sound like it's not being ground properly? that the whole wah is set up to be too extreme? It is VERY deep sounding. Are all the wires delivering power too close to the ones where audio is going thru?

I'll try and throw some pics up if I can figure that out. Thanks!

General Questions / 3 broken pedals I'm trying to fix
August 10, 2017, 12:07:55 AM
I picked up a few broken pedals as projects. I've looked at them a bit but could use some guidance on next steps. Here are the pedals and their current condition. Any advice appreciated! Thanks!

Fender FRV-1:: This actually works, just the volume is about 1/3rd of what it should be. I'm guessing this isn't true bypass since the volume is lowered even if the effect is off. I want to believe this might be something as easy as a loose pot or jack connection.

Sonic Stomp:: This passes signal when off but nothing when turned on. Turning knobs makes some nice crackles. Opening it up and moving wires when turned on makes some small crackles. Previous owner thinks he blew something by plugging it into wrong, higher, power source. Check caps?

Boss CE-5:: Does nothing when on. Previous owner had tried switching cap values and in the process looks like he lifted a trace on the board. It's in a real tight area and the trace itself is pretty dang thin. Try and solder in a new wire in it's place? I think the pad might be lifted as well.

Can provide pics if needed. Thanks!

Tech Help - Projects Page / Debugging effdub Dist +
November 29, 2014, 05:13:52 AM
Howdy! I used to be on here quite a bit a couple years back. Then I had a kid and all pedal building stopped dead.  :-\

Getting back into playing more tho and realized my dist + isn't working right. Passes signal in bypass fine. When I click it on the LEDs flash once quickly and then die. No sound passes at all. Tried chasing signal through circuit when on and it gets in to the board but not sure where it stops.

Been so long I forgot how to fix this! Any help is appreciated.

Here is my old build thread for it with pics

Got this through another transaction and its a lot of fun. LED & NOS germs on a switch for clipping. Polished enclosure from smallbear. 10mm LED and lightplate. It's bright and shiny!!

The NOS germs are awesome

General Questions / Neptune delay--decay pot
May 10, 2013, 09:00:04 PM
Am I correct in thinking this just controls how long you get to hear the funky momentary de-tune type thing?

Thanks!

Hoping for a less hissy repeat.

Didn't like it. Still hissy. Almost hissier due to the way I biased perhaps? Not sure but the short delay wasn't working for me.

I might go 18V and MB 3005 if I can stomach the price

This one is for my buddy. Thanks again stomp and haberdasher.

Might add a light plate for the indicator LED.

Hi All!

Built some pedals for a friend and a few for me. Been a nice building season for me as of late so I thought I'd share a bit. Hope you like it!

Pair of weeners (aka crossed swords!) Enclosures from mammoth. Painted the red guy myself. Thank you ductaperiot for the lit pot boards! I also added 2 red LEDs on the red wah under the foot pedal for some extra glow. I like it. Also have a 2 color red/blue LED to indicate the fun little toggle switch-a-roo. Built with lots of love and help from JakeFuzz as well. Red has a whipple, white has a Sabadius. Both sound DEEP and awesome. Can't do wrong. Red still has some scratch I can't get rid of but my try a new pot.

GUTS!!!!!!! Spaghetti monsters

Minimuff (Robofuzz) thanks pickdropper! & Green bean (Facemelter) Both in glow in the dark paint. Tried to capture it in the last pic but doesn't do it justice. They glow like crazy. I love the minimuff. Green bean is for my buddy and I know it'll be perfect for him

Who says you can't socket trannies on a minimuff! In your face reality!
Also, who says you can't fry the crap out of a green bean switch pulling it out and still have it barely work! yea!

Nautilus. Easily my best looking build to date. Total stylebiter here. I ripped off the graphic I believe from someone else on here and I stole the 3 color switching LED from stomptown (thank you!) and thanks haberdasher for making it for me! My innovation was to invert the LED and have it poke through the light plate. Flashes up big as life. Just great. Still figuring this beast out but love it.

General Questions / Nautilus volume & settings
May 02, 2013, 05:33:15 AM
Just finished one. Lots of features but its almost overwhelming to understand how they all play off each other to get a nice effect. My "spin dials till I like it process works but I'd love insight on any favorite settings, uses etc..

Also, man is it loud! Build doc says to have volume trimpot on full but no way! I have it at about 3/4 and its doable but certain settings make your ears bleed still. Any ways around this? Thanks!!!

I have one of pickdroppers minimuffs I just completed.

stuffed that turkey into a 1590A.

I couldn't get it to work at first. Just audio-probed it and I get the full fuzzy fun signal coming all the way through the board, at the footswitch and even at the out jack when I put my probe on it.

I crammed the jacks in there so tight and they are not the enclosed ones so I had to do a bit of bending to get them to fit but man, it's real close.

is it fair to assume that when I put the plugs in the jacks and they expand slightly I'm likely getting some metal on metal contact which is why the signal will not come through the amp even though it's reaching the output jack per my audio probe?

pics would help. will do it when I'm off work.

thanks!

Ok to use B10k instead of B5k?

Thanks!
