Build Reports / Re: I made a OneShot!

If you very carefully unbend the little lead tabs you can remove the plastic base at the bottom of the cap. That gives you just enough leads to extend through the board and solder on.

I added a little vero DOD FET Preamp 210 on the front with a trimmer for the volume, just the right amount of extra volume and a little more grit. Sounds quite good together!

any suggestions for how to get a little more output volume on this? I'm trying to get parity with the rest of the stuff on my board and it's just not quite there.

Looks good! What's the story behind the artwork?
According to the build documentation it's basically a TS with some mods, so I was going with that "Oh OK, I see" theme. Having said that, it is a very useable TS with some worthwhile mods that all fits in a 1590b.

Build Reports / I made a OneShot!

Haven't seen any build reports on this so I thought I would put one up. It sounds quite good! I really like the flat mids mode, my only quibble is that I wish it had a touch more gain in flat mids mode. The Silicon and Mosfet clipping sound pretty similar to me, only slightly different but I think I prefer Mosfet. Overall it's a very nice sound. I think it will end up on my board if I can figure out which other pedal to bump off. :-D I had a little trouble with electrolytics that were too tall for my 1590b, other than that it went right in.

really enjoyed the vid! nice to see how other folks get the inspiration for customizing their gear! Drawing/painting your own pedal art takes a whole lot of time, but very worth it. Did I miss you talking about what brush you use for the lettering?

The beginning of Metallica's "Sad But True" usually flushes out any earworm I'm currently experiencing. :-D

mattc,
Not sure about other apps, but if Photoshop is overkill for you maybe have a look at Affinity Photo. It's around $50 and has a similar feature set. To open a PDF in Affinity: Choose Open and select your PDF file. You'll get a dialog box like this where you can select the page that has the drill template. Select your DPI (dots per inch), I usually do 300 DPI. Your drill template will open and be ready to print at 300 DPI. Do your graphics in the file, then when you're ready to print just make sure it's set to print at 100% and not scaling your image up or down. Let us know if you need more help, we all have gone through this.

Looks like a block of some amazing swirl ice cream, I love the color selection. Sounds like a pretty interesting build, I might need to look into this circuit a bit more. Great job!

Just a regular inkjet waterslide decal on a Tayda powdercoat. I like this color a lot too, I can see ending up with as many of these as I have of their Lawn Green powdercoats.  ;D

Build Reports / Flying Dutchman mkII
January 03, 2022, 07:53:23 AM
My workspace was locked down due to home repair projects and family visits over the holiday, so I'm just now getting this one out. It's a mkII with a Small Bear Flying Dutchman transistor set using a snazzy Aion Deimos board. I ended up adding an 82n to the output cap on the back of the board to bring out a little more low end, which seems to also have helped the mk1.5 mode have a little more going on. The Dutchmans sound great!

Nice! I instantly recognized the name!! Used to love that movie but I haven't seen it in like 25 years or so. Wonder how it holds up.

I watched it recently with my then-19 year old, he was looking at me like WTH is this, so I had to tell him it's supposed to be kind of tongue-in-cheek. Still a very fun movie even without modern FX. I heard the studios were considering a re-make, which I hope they don't because the movie is fine as-is and if you can't have Kurt Russell as Jack Burton then why bother. I would really like to see someone like HBO do a martial arts/Witcher mashup with a young Egg Shen. Would totally watch that.

The sound is pretty squarely in the Tonebender lane, the tone control (Peasant Magic)  has a pretty good range as does the fuzz control. The switch does. ... something. . . . can't quite put my finger what exactly, it's pretty subtle. Definitely worth a build if you have some PNPs and don't want to hassle with a voltage inverter.

Build Reports / Six Demon Bag

Hey gang, here's a Monolith Oracle fuzz I finally got all put together recently. Several years back I bought some 2N1309s by mistake and had always hoped to be able to use them in a build someday. I recently saw a layout for the Oracle which uses PNPs and still works with negative ground power, the 1309s sound great in there. Closing out 2021 with a nod to one of my favorite films of all time Big Trouble in Little China because why not. :-D
