Open Discussion / Re: Thanks for not flaming

1. No , im emotional when i should be logical and vice versa, but after catholic grade school, and high school, and living in the bible belt i guess theres so much religion (catholic mainly) present, and no offense to anyone, but i lean toward logic on this one.

2. Who the president is doesnt matter. The illuminati and reptilian shape shifters are in control, hahaha. Hes an egomaniacal sociopath with no empathy towards anyone, i hope he will be the best president america has seen, but i fear he will just help the rich get richer and further eliminate the middle class.
I thought obama was a good president. The fact that he was able to do some reform to health care IMO is really good, perfect, no. But better than it was. Ive been in the position to help, ie pay more taxes, and im currently in a position where im doing everything i can to basically exist. I never minded having a little more taken out of my check. I love how all these so called religious ppl are so far right wing and against social programs. Because jesus would definatly walk by a homeless person and tell him get a job and keep walking in his three piece suit. Do ppl try to take advantage of these programs, yes,  but i think we need to spend less $ on  more multi millon dollar fighter planes and have programs w some check and balances to help ppl who need it. Not just handouts.

3. Meat is yummy, i often think about how what im eating, how much of it is actual food, and how much is some refined processed who knows what. Id like to have a better diet, something im working one

4. Never owned a mac, they used to be far superior for graphic design, and audio processing. Think windows is closing that gap. Macs hardware is superior , but also more expensive. Ive got a Scarlett 2i2 usb interface, and it sounds very good, i use amplitube , and reaper and such. Hard to beat for few hundred bucks including a cheap pair of monitors. I dont play out and perfer this setup to a tube amp. Only bc tubes are so loud.

General Questions / Re: 3pdt w LED ring

Id be down, ima post a link but i found some better looking ones ,more color options, and also comes with colored aluminum cap.

http://m.made-in-china.com/product/Single-Color-LED-Footswitch-Colorful-Aluminum-Cap-Electric-Foot-Switch-PBS-24-302-KN1-808727955.html

These are bicolored and seem like a little sleeker looking. I like how the aluminum cap gives you a larger area for stomp. Im not real keen on copper color. I dont see anything about being able to get different colored cap. I think black would work best as far as color scheme, and prob wouldnt show grime as much. Anyway if you scroll down there are the bilcolored ones, and regular colored. Ill bookmark this thread as it wouldnt take but $100 bucks to do a group buy. Id prob get 5, as i hate dealing w LED and bezel and more drilling etc...

Thanks for quick reply! yea im gonna do some more googling once i get home. How did you apply solution? i assume ill need some kind of wet vac , or will it just neutralize the FC? Yea done with chemicals and making pcbs...had i known what i was getting into before hand i wouldnt have even started it. There is an insane amount of dust created from drilling and cutting FR4, at first i was doing it w decent lighting, but once i did it under a super bright led lamp i couldnt believe the spray of dust that is created. And the FC will stain the shit out of anything, i was pretty diligent wearing gloves and putting towels down and i still would find small dots here and there on shirt etc. I really enjoy hobby, but sourcing parts, troubleshooting, and getting enclosure to look good , at least for me, is incredibly time consuming. Ill still do some building, but i decided to build an ocd on perfboard, im about 3/4 the way done. I got a $25 gift card from ebay from a friend, and picked up a 1590A ENO trouble drive OCD clone for $22 bucks including shipping that arrived in 3 days. I did alot of research before buying, i was just about to pull the trigger on a good amount of parts. After being frustrated at not being able to find what i needed parts wise , i stumbled upon this pedal. I just said hell ill just order it. I only have 1 other manufactured pedal, a Donner yellow fall delay, 1590a, which i got on amazon, for $25 bucks two day shipping included. It just doesnt make sense economically for me right now to build a pedal. Even if i ordered  everything from tayda, the parts alone would cost what finished pedal does, and ill have pedal in 2 days. Where as ordering from tayda i wouldnt even get parts for another 8-15 days. I got into this hobby bc yea if i want some special boutique pedal that is $300 bucks retail, then yes it will be cheaper, but how much is my time worth, My skills are average at best, ive seen some incredible work by alot of ppl making pedals on here an other sites, Ill still finish my ocd build, but ive got to be logical right now and realize i just cant afford to spend the time and money i do on this hobby. Once i have a proper work space ad little more $ in the bank to get some better tools and stock up on parts ill pick it back up. Sorry for long post, again i appreciate as many tips for cleaning as any one has.

so just what subject says, no need for a long exp of what happened, but a small amount, prob couple ounces. some is on carpet, some is on a bedside table.
Its on table top, small amount seeped in drawer below. Majority of it is on carpet. I used towel, and water to try to get up what i could. Also notice its smelling funky. Used household sprays to try to get rid of smell but doesnt seem to help. I did google search about smell and coudnt find anything. Surely im not the first one to make this mistake, any replies or suggestions much appreciated. Need to get it cleaned up quick, dont wanna lose my deposit, my lease is up in 6 days.

agreed. i think its like anything else, if you know that you spend  x amount of money on something that is an upgrade , but it is not visable and no one can see it but you then it is a non issue. Ive built pedals w super cheap components, and ones with special caps n such, they both work fine but there is a perceived measure of quality in my head bc i know. The main issue with me is w capacitors, mainly greenies and there size, they are fine up to about 47nf, but above that i have to start bending them over. there is a set of mlcc for 12 bucks on ebay im gonna get, they are 5 percent tol, and i love how small they are.

General Questions / Re: 3pdt w LED ring

If you click on the listing there are multiple images, as far as DIY, anything is possilbe, but it seems the pcb is sort of inlayed, like the ring around the button is down a tad more than a regular 3pdt. I dont think it would require any custom drilling, as the pin headers look to me to be below where the base is that screws to enclosure. Price wise yea for 1 itd be about ten bucks, but with combined shipping theyd be 6.67 each plus shipping so if ur buying 10 then the shipping wouldnt really add much to the price of each. Even the cheapest of the cheap 3pdts ive gotten are like 3-4 bucks, let me know how it works, seems rare to find something that hasnt been done before on pedals, not to say no one has used these, just that im sure 9/10 ppl or more havent seen this method of having led indicator. I really like the idea, because its one less hole to drill and gives more room inside of pedal.

ok so im building an OCD overdrive, and from gut shot pics, which there are alot of online, they all look like plain carbon film resistors, multilayer ceramics, and mylar greenies. Yet since ive gottten interested in building this pedal, it seems like its one of the top most beloved pedals, seemingly bc of its range from anything from mild boost/overdrive to full on distortion. Im in the process of moving and 90 percent of my stuff is in another state, id like to finish it up, but am i really gonna notice sound difference if i wait and use my Nos silver mica 220pf caps, and wima metal films, vs using cheapo ceramics and couple greenie mylars from radioshack, which is what the actual fulltone uses, i do have kemet metal film 100nfs soldered in, just curious mainly about the pf caps and carbon film resistors, the passive stuff basically. Also the 10uf caps would anyone recommend all tantalums? anything to be gained by them other than size?

General Questions / Re: Wire question
February 19, 2017, 06:46:12 PM
Anyone use Cat5 patch cables? I have boxes of them from previous job, most had incredibly thin twisted pair that was almost impossible to strip. Anyway i found one i think comcast had left a while back and while twisted pairs are still thin, they are much stiffer, so i cut it up, the individual pairs tinned nicely, and that gives you 8 different colors and and w 4 twisted pair x6 ft that is 24 feet of cable for free if you have an extra ethernet cable laying around, not a whole lot of use for them any more.

General Questions / 3pdt w LED ring

Anyone seen something like this before?

i think its a pretty sweet concept, saves space and wiring inside enclosure, sure ppl will argue that its negligible. But havent seen anything like this before thought id share.

Tech Help - Etcher's Paradise / Re: General Etching issue
February 12, 2017, 01:20:09 PM
Fresh Fe Chl, heat it up for like 10-15 seconds in microwave, then put board in, put top back on plastic tupperware, and shake the hell out of it. Itll give me a perfect etch in like 5 min or less. I think the most important thing is prepping. I use fine steel wool til its super shiny, I thought i was out of Fe Chl but found a small tupperware container last night. It was pretty nasty, really dark and thick, anyway i prepped board like i always do, didnt heat it, barely agitated it other than a few shakes her n there. about 20 min later it was almost done. I took it out, used a sponge to dab the parts it didnt eat away. after rinsing suprisingly results were as good as with fresh. Im curious about sodium persulfate, just because the ferric stuff is just nasty, will stain the shit out of everything, u gotta really pay attention.

Always been a big kings of leon fan, lotta people only like there old stuff, or hate them or love them, either way i dont care i like them. Havent listened to them in a bit so been listening there latest release WALLS and Mechanical Bull, like i said been a min since i listened to them. Anyway they are really good live, found this video of them from when they were on letterman. With the guitar screams, and pitch shifting bass line that sounds like a keyboard. Pretty cool i think. Also had forgotten about porcupine tree, just got done listening to Trains, love that song. Also Mac Demarco, theres a youtube channel from a seattle radio station KEXP that has some killer live sessions, super high quality audio and video. Ill get on there and just click on random bands, most of which ive never heard of , and have been really suprised at how many of those bands i now listen to on a regular basis.

Thats a link to the kings of leon performance, even if u dont like them check out the performance it sounds really cool to me and innovative, bass line is sweet.

Open Discussion / Re: Sourcing components....
February 11, 2017, 12:24:29 PM
my issues with the leads is of course breadboarding, and i like there to be relativly small gap between through hole and component. And with the thin leads takes more solder and just seems like you dont get as good of the mechanical connection. I seemed to have found a way yesterday where i have a new appreciation for them. I was at harbor freight yesterday, they always send u the 20% off and free gift email on fridays seems. But i found these

http://www.harborfreight.com/high-speed-steel-micro-drill-bit-set-30-pc-61526.html

Ive always just bought the Carbide bits w 1/8th inch shaft.

Any way they were only 4 bucks, wasnt sure if there smallest collet on thier cheapo rotary drill would even hold a .8mm bit , i had looked the conversion to inches up and 1/32" is like .79 mm....but fig whatever ill try n see. Turned out the 6mm will drill a perfect size hole for those thin leads. If you etch your own board, and have no silk screen to stop solder from running everywhere and a hole that is to big, ive never been able to make it work. with the size distance in hole and lead id have to try to use enough solder to fill the hole to secure resistor. Had times where id just get enough solder on there to hold it in place but the build would always eventually fail, sooner rather than later.  W the 6mm bit there is just enough room for lead. Anyway I never used smalled than .8mm bc the bulk of my components wouldnt even fit in a 6mm hole. Anyway that was always my problem, even the cheapest of the cheap no name ones off ebay that looked hand painted always measured right on point. Sure most of yall know this or arent as poor as me and just pay the extra few bucks for the Vishays or Xicons, hopefully i wont have to penny pince so hard for much longer lol. Theres a lot of sellers on ebay that have lots of 100 of all the good brand names for like 1.25 w combined shipping, usually 3 bucks for shipping, so u could come out w alot of very high quality resistors for not much.

I read a post about this and if i remember correctly sev people said they were using them, and they were the same as alpha, the look slightly different, Im sure in some way they are made out of a cheaper material either the metal or the carbon resisive track or the wiper, also the more bulk you buy the cheaper you get stuff. and its impossible to miss but they have cut there selection waay back, to the point it seems like the want u to buy enclosures and pots first, the figure youll get this or that since your already making an order from them. But i was on there last night, they carry 15 ic s, thats pretty small compare to what they used to, or say SB. Never counted how many they used to carry but ne way just me 2 cents
