Build Reports / Total recall line level tips?
February 04, 2023, 06:27:33 AM
It's been years!  I've built two previous TRs with success but always used with guitars.  I'm planning on building this latest one into a modular synth I built..  there's a mod suggested for hotter pickups by raising the value of R2 from 100k to 220k..essentially attenuating the incoming signal.  Would making R2 a 500k pot make sense?  And if so, would that be any different than just running the incoming signal through an attenuator before it ever reaches the TR?  Anyone use the TR with synths?  Thanks!

Tech Help - Projects Page / Moodring 2017 ?
April 11, 2018, 03:09:28 PM
Well my parts order got messed up for the moodring 2017. Instead of 1uf lytics they sent me 10uf lytics. Any chance the 10s subbed for the 1s will yield a functioning effect that still sounds decent?  Bummed.. :/

The leg of C28 that meets R34 wasn't soldered. It hides under a pot. Idiot move. Won't be my last. Sounds so good now!  Thanks for the replies and making me look harder before I spent more $.

Thanks!  I'll send pics and voltages tonight. Fdbk pot is right angle pcb mount. I'm pretty sure it's 10kA. I'll check.

I've traced continuity through out the feedback circuit and everything seems good.  I've tested the ohms of the fdbk pot in use as I turn it and it's good. Again, i'm left with the conclusion my bbd chips didn't like the power supply arc.  I'm going to re-order all new IC's including the 3005's...just asking one more time if anyone has ANY suggestions why this circuit might act like the fdbk pot is stuck at it's lowest setting before I spend the money.  Thanks

Only component value I found that's off is C20. I was short on 2n7's so it's a 2n2. Still just the one repeat.

I should probably add that one of the first things I did at power up was slip with my multimeter probe and ground out the DC jack. Ugh!!  But like I said all voltages are good and I got the repeat right off the bat with trimmers all at noon.  I went with the one repeat during calibration as my fdbk pot got turned low flippingbit around.  When I turned it up it just stays at one repeat always. Anyhoo..

Got my total recall built and I'm getting one beautifully clean repeat after biasing and adjustments. Mod works, delay time works...everything is great with exception of repeats. There's just one repeat. Feedback pot has no effect. Voltages are all right on the money. Using xvive mn3005's. I swapped ne570, same result. Don't have other bbd
chips to swap but I think if they were bad they wouldn't give me any repeats at all. Any ideas where to start?  I've double checked component values and tested the fdbk pot itself and it's good.

Thank you!  That explains it!  Yes, i was originally going to go with one common dc jack for the 4 pedals that share but was going to have some very long runs of wire...this way each jack can be close(ish) to it's circuit.  Thanks for your site and all the knowledge.

Trying to wrap my head around a grounding scheme.  I have a large enclosure with 5 pedals in it.  4 are standard center pin neg, each with its own power jack and a one spot powering them all.  Now i've finished my total recall and of course it will have it's own power jack which is isolated from chassis like the rest.  However, all in/out jacks are grounded to chassis(each circuit has it's own jacks, that way i can route them any way) including TR.  I haven't turned it all on yet...I could isolate the TR jacks but still when you patch from one to the next you're connecting the sleeve of patch cable from neg ground to pos ground or vice versa.  Obviously guys have been using DMM's for decades with other standard pedals?  Ground is ground?
