This is gorgeous! Looks like something straight out of one of the "Fallout" games!

I'm a noob... and I love it.  ;D

Its not always easy being inexperienced, but this board has proven uniquely welcoming and helpful to those of us who are in the beginning stages of learning. This is particularly great given how much experience many of you are bringing to the table. If you experienced folk are willing, I thought it might be cool to create a thread dedicated to the following question:

"What is one thing that you wish you would have known when you were getting started building pedals?"

Thanks for anything you all are willing to share!

If you are testing it outside of an enclosure, you have to ground both the input and the output jacks.

Dang that's another thing I totally forgot about!!!! I didn't do that when testing it outside a case :( I will definitely give that a shot after work today. Needless to say I will feel quite silly if that turns out to be the culprit.

Do you have any insulation on the back of those pots?

Even just some electrical tape or cardboard will help. If, as I think I see, you don't have any, that means that all the solder joints underneath them are shorting out.
Doh! That makes so much sense, I totally forgot you can get those little rubber covers for the pots. I will stick some cardboard in there for the time being, and remember to be more mindful of that going forward. Thanks!

Buzzing and no signal, no LED on etc could be a broken ground connection.
Also measure voltages in circuit, doe4s it see 9V, what voltages are on IC?
Will do! I have a multi-meter on its way in the mail, and will report back once i have a chance to test it all out. Thank you!

Hey all! This is my first build after 4 years of absence and what I thought was going to happen, happened: I ran into some trouble!

Here are the details as they stand.
(1) Project Name:Green Bean
(2) Description of problem: Buzzing, no sound passing, LED was lit after the first press of the switch, but will not light anymore.
(3) What I've Done so Far (Hopefully correctly):
- Double checked wiring
- Double checked part values
- Looked for bad soldering and potential bridged components
- Sobbed deeply into a cup of coffee while cursing my intellect
- Double checked component orientation
(4) Part Substitutions: I used a different IC chip (One of the ones recommended in the build doc), and a few different diodes. I dont have the exact values on me at the moment, but can post them later.

I have attached a few images... hopefully I did that right as well :)

Thanks for any help you can provide!!!

Have not had a chance to try them yet, but I've definitely been seeing them pop up on more and more boards. The barefoot brand ones look incredibly satisfying to stomp... a statement that would sound extremely creepy in most other contexts.

Holy cow. Your graphics and interior organization really give me something to aspire to. I think I might like this knob/LED arrangement better than the simple "3 across the top" on the original. Great work!

Welcome back then as well... I did have a wee break too.
And if anyone tells ya that Alzheimers is related to lead smoke of soldering just shrug it off... just get yourself a new user name and password.

As you were...

There's a small part of me that wants to make a new account and post the exact same introduction to reinforce the joke, but I think I will restrain myself this time. Ha! Thanks for the welcome, I am glad to be back!

Introductions / Greetings! ...Again!

Hi There!

Funnily enough, this is sort of a re-introduction I suppose? I was actually a member of the forum 4-5 years ago but cant for the life of me remember my username! :P

Back then I was able to get a few fun builds under my belt thanks to all you wonderful people. I then took an extended break due to grad school and other forms of "adulting." I am super excited to be back and picking back up the soldering iron again. Its been awesome to revisit the board over the last week or so and recognize a lot of key contributors that were around when I first started, as well as so many new people!

I just ordered a Green Bean board which is going to be my first build back. Can't wait to get going! :)
