Cool, sounds like a fun circuit. Now you got me rabbit holing after a diode laser.   ::)

Open Discussion / Re: DIY Vox VFS2A switch help

Necro-bump!

When I was building mine, I did not find any of the diagrams clear enough, so I made one of my own. I'm sharing it here in case someone else finds this thread in the future.

One other option is to use a 4PDT switch and fully switch out all three lugs of each pot, while still utilizing the bicolour LED. Just throwing the idea into the ring.

This is what I was going to recommend.

Agree with what everyone has said about the Scarab. It's a spectacular pedal. I'm not wild about fuzz, but this one is so versatile and sounds so great. Nicely done!

Agreed: the back of that board is gorgeous. What a fun unexpected bonus.

FWIW, switching to Helix is what convinced me buy a new tube amp. Being able to experiment with tons of different sounds led me to absolutely love Vox tones. So I bought an AC15, which I never would have considered before! That said, I'd guess that on the whole, the explosion of modeling has not been kind to the amplifier industry.

A sad occurrence in any case.  :(

Love the video, and it definitely sold me on buying the project. I think maybe you forgot to change the patch number after 3 on the video headings. NBD, just the kind of thing that I would want to know if it were me!

I'm looking forward to building the EJ Fuzz Face too, even though I need more dirt pedals like I need a hole in my head. It'll make a nice gift.

Congrats on the release and thanks for keeping the scene fresh in These Unprecedented Times™.

A true legend. Even though it's not really my cup of tea, there's no denying his influence on the instrument, and on rock. Gone too soon. I'll kick on a Phase 90 in his honor tonight.

General Questions / Aion Ares component questions
October 05, 2020, 06:28:24 PM
I am using the older version of the board as found here. I have two questions about this build.

1. Why is the 14th capacitor labeled C101? Does it correspond to R101, one of the optional pulldown resistors?

2. Where can I source 220pF MLCC caps for C1 and C5? Small Bear doesn't seem to have them in values that low.

Wow, that's a whole lot of cool sounds in one box. I'm not sure I'd use most of them in any serious way, but what a lot of fun!

Yep. She turned 6 last week. Honestly, it's felt like 8 years already, haha. But it's speeding up, for sure.
Becoming a parent made time speed up for me for sure. My older one is 16 now. :o   No telling what this lost year (God, please let it just be one year) will do to our sense of time's progression.

Not sure this is helpful, but a friend and I have been working on a fuzz for him lately, and what he's found is that the TB mk1.5 is basically just a Fuzz Face with a few passive component value changes. So I'm guessing Fuzz Face transistor gain would work with the Mk I. But I'm here to learn, and I bet someone with more knowledge will have something more helpful!

Great looking build! I like those flat bat toggle switches. Where'd you get them?

These builds look amazing! Not to take anything away from them, but I would love to hear more about your AC4 build. Have you posted about it before?

For a Univibe mod you want to have the phase stages at a 10:1 ratio. So, C2 and C3 need to be 10:1. Or 1:10. It doesn't matter which order it's in. When I put those extra pads in I was blazing through the design and didn't realize until later I put them on the wrong caps!

The easiest way to achieve the mod on the Smoothie is to switch out C2 for a 4n7. Or, you could toggle b/w 4n7 and 47n using a mini SPDT switch.
Ah, so when the two caps are the same value, the effect acts like a phaser, and when they're 10:1, the effect acts like the vibe—so toggling one of them between equal and 10x (or .1x) is the way to have access to both sounds. I think that makes sense.

Wouldn't I need a DPDT, though? One cap on each end, with the common row wired to the PCB? BTW, I'm putting this in a multi-effect box, so space is not a concern.
