I have a handful of pedals I don't use that aren't selling on CL.  Never shipped pedals and wondering what is good way to go.  Safety and $ are both important:)

I want to look into building a Les Paul Jr.  I've found several companies.  A few with mediocre reviews.
Any recommendations and/or real world experiences?

Thanks,
Phillip

General Questions / Recommend a Tap Tempo Tremolo
July 18, 2014, 10:03:11 AM
There is a similar thread going right now but it is not specific to Tap Tempo (didn't want to hijack the thread).
I built the Quadrovibe and love it.  Have a buddy who insists he wants tap tempo despite my argument that I don't miss it on mine.
Is there a simplified tremolo (no wave form selection, just speed and intensity and possibly 8th note division) that you'd recommend that encorporates TT?

I am assuming you can't add TT to the Quadrovibe?

;)
Please confirm.  A buddy gave me a Line 6 DM4 with no power adapter.  It say it requires 9v AC 1200mA.
I have an adapter that says 'AC/DC'.  Will it work.  See pics below:

Tech Help - Projects Page / HotCake Bluesberry mod
June 21, 2014, 06:07:50 PM
I built Big Dipper Effects Shortcake PCB (HotCake Clone).  It suggests that D2 and D3 are optional and can be put on a switch.  I assumed that I could run them in series from one of the diode holes.  I oriented the diodes according to the screen print on the switch which has heat shrink in the image.
Please let me know if I am off base (wouldn't be the first time;). If it is correct, it sure seems REALLY subtle.
Also including the schematic.

Got the 'Shortcake' PCB from Layton (TreeSlayer).  Thanks man! The PCB was put out by BigDipper Effects.
Pretty straight forward build (I think).  D2 and D3 are optional diodes for the 'Bluesberry' mod.  I put them on a dpdt switch.  It doesn't seem to do much and I'm wondering if I have it wired correctly.  I put the two diodes in series and wired it directly to one of the two diode sockets.
Even before I put the diodes on the switch I couldn't tell much of a difference (using the sockets).  Apparently it only effects the decay.  The kids are asleep so I can't put it through it's paces yet.
It's an interesting od/distortion.  Here's a couple photos:

***Demo links below****
I went back and forth on the graphics, became frustrated and decided to do my first spray paint + hand painted enclosure.  I figured it couldn't look any crappier than what I'd come up with in PS.
Initially it wouldn't 'tremolo'.  Thanks to MidwayFair for setting me on the right path there (rate LED has to be connected for the lamp to pulse).
Pedal sounds great despite the fact that the labels weren't laid out properly;)
Great project for anyone looking for a Trem/Vibe pedal.
Anyone know why it's call 'Quadrovibe'?

Loving this delay but having an issue.  I ordered extra digital pots because I had read there was a 40% tolerance on those jokers.  Auditioned a few and found one that was pretty close: I tap in 120bmp with a metronome and I get 124-126 consistently on the repeats.  The other chips ranges from 138-148 on the repeats with 120bpm tapped.  I can live with that small discrepancy.
But, the LEDs flash at a different rate than the tap and repeats (slower).  It is very notice able.  Is there a way to fix this?  It is certainly not a deal breaker as it doesn't affect the sound but visually is a little distracting (I'm not usually looking at the pedal when I play so it really isn't a big deal).
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Phillip

Runs off a battery.  Won't run off the 9v adapter.  I replaced the dc jack.  Still same issue.  Does the battery bypass the protection diode? I was assuming the diode was fine as the pedal works with a battery.  Any ideas?

I built the Hamlet +.  Works great, except it repeats at a slightly faster tempo than what's tapped.  I read in another thread that the digital pots have a 10-20% tolerance.  So, I ordered 5 from Mouser.  I'd rather not audition all 5. Is there a way to measure resistance out of the circuit?

This was a breeze to build thanks to the layout.  Off board wiring was a pleasure.  Circuit sounds great.  I've been looking forward building a tap tempo delay since I got into pedal building.  Great job Jon and Jacob!

Can you use Cat5e cable to carry audio signal and power?  If not, is there 1 cable to rule them all?
Playing around with the idea with running power to a pedal board and carrying the signal to and from an effects loop (modding an amp to accept the Cat5e)

Picked up a VHT Special 6 today for $80.  In beautiful shape.  I was going to try out my newly acquired Fender Oxford? Speaker but the internal speaker out is 16ohms.  Thinking of rewiring the internal speaker out to the 8ohm output.  I'm going to play the stock speaker for a little while because it actually sounds pretty good!  Including a link to a soundcloud sample.

Here is a couple pics and it's bigger bro.

Picked this up on CL for free.  It's a 10" Fender Speaker.  There are no numbers or markings on it anywhere (maybe got rubbed off?).  There is a number on the actual cone though.  Came out of a warehouse and the guy has no history on it.  Figure it's a long shot but here are a couple pics.

First off - I got lazy with the artwork.  I tried to be original and it looked terrible.  I lost my patience and just ripped off the Mesa 'Rectifier' graphic.
The wiring (footswitches) was confusing to me  and I made a few mistakes.  The result was a messier wiring and 5 blown LEDs.  Once I got it working properly I just couldn't be bothered to tidy it all up.
I built it for a friend who is in to some pretty heavy stuff.  I had great fun testing it out.  The EQ section on this pedal really rocks.  I compared this to the Metal Muff with top Boost that I just acquired and there is no comparison.  This thing blows it out of the water.

Picked up a Metal Muff with Top Boost on CL listed as broken for $5.  Won't power up.  Figured it was a blown voltage protection diode.  Opened it up and it is SMD!  Should have known.  What's a rough estimate in terms of money investment for equipment for getting started on SMD?

Populated the RR and the Quadrovibe board.  The lamp doesn't pulse.  Stays lit.  The circuit passes the guitar signal.  The trimpots seem to do their job.  When the toggle switch is set to tremolo the trim volume works.  I've checked continuity around the part of the circuit that drives the lamp.  Seemingly no solder bridges.  I tacked the transistors in their sockets with a little solder.  I've double checked transistor orientation.  I measured the speed pot resistance and it seems to be functioning properly (although being a 100k pot it only registers 67k).
Is their a part of the circuit I should be focusing my attention on?

Thanks!

And only puts out 8.9-9.2 V at the 18V pad.
I'm using the LT1054 IC.

I've triple checked the component values and solder points.  Any ideas?

I'm building the Quadrovibe.  I ordered the parts based on the Quadrovibe BOM.  I etched the Roadrage 2014.  It calls for the 12v Zener where the other previous RR had none.  Can I just leave it off?  I'm using the RR for +18v.
I have a 9.1V Zener.  But no 12v.

Great advice, really great advice BUT....
How do you deal with pots and toggle switches.  I've been leaving my leads long with the intention of clipping them shorting when populating the box. But this becomes cumbersome on larger projects.
My question is how do you handle this aspect of rockin before boxin?  I have a 6 knob/1 toggle and don't really want to desolder over 20 joints and resolder when populating the box.  Is there a good way around this?
