Build Reports / Etched Moodring Enclosure
September 04, 2014, 11:35:00 PM
Hey Guys, I just finished etching this enclosure. It's only my second enclosure etch so I am still working on my process, but I think it came out ok. I went with a reverse etch, as I've been seeing a lot of painted enclosures lately with reverse etching and love the look. As far as the design goes, nothing too special. Traced the astronaut off of an image i sourced on google. I made a few flubs-namely not including the text layer for the "ring" pot. Whoops! The concentric circles around the pots were shamelessly stolen from bean's moodring enclosure. It just looked too cool! Anyways, thought I'd share (:

I was in a rush to finish this one; went from empty PCB to pop'd and rocked (not boxed yet) in about 2 hours. And dear sweet mother of tone does this thing sound gorgeous. Thanks bean, for yet another amazing pedal.

Build Reports / Dirty Delay (dweller)
August 26, 2014, 03:53:27 PM
This is my cave dweller. Nod to Midway fair with the paint job. I spent the other night checking his site out and decided it was time to hand paint an enclosure. Nothing special in the build-did the repeats mod and lowered r1 and c1.

Hey guys! the habit of running back and forth in the office to print etch masks is getting quite tedious, so I feel like it is time to invest in a laser printer to assist me in my needs. Does anyone have any recommendations for reasonably prices ones that will accomplish what I need? I know there are issues with brother printers (or so i've heard). I found this one on amazon and it seems to be what I'm looking for. http://www.amazon.com/Hewlett-Packard-Laserjet-Wireless-Printer/dp/B00847UWUE/ref=cm_cd_ql_qh_dp_t

Anyone have any experience with this printer or others? Thanks!

Open Discussion / PCB Design work Questions
August 23, 2014, 11:06:16 PM
Hey guys,

I know this is a question that has been asked a million times, but can anyone give me an idea of the going rate for PCB design? A friend and I have a budding small operation, and while I don't expect (or really want, for that matter) to ever turn a profit beyond financing personal builds, I do think it would be cool to have our own PCB's.  I am looking into outsourcing PCB design, as eagle isn't a mountain I have quite conquered yet. I know a lot of you guys are fully capable, so I figured I'd ask what the process is and what a typical fee structure looks like. I know a lot of this is based on the kind of design, eg. delay VS a opamp booster. Can anyone fill me in?

Open Discussion / Line selector question
August 17, 2014, 11:33:58 PM
Hey guys

I recently snagged a really cool old Yamaha keyboard from the 80s with an awesome set of drum loop samples and had the idea of running it through my chain. Needless to say, it's been super fun! I got the idea of making  a simple line selector box so I could switch between either my guitar or the keyboard through the chain. I also occasionally use the animoog app on my iPhone through my chain to make loops as well, so having the ability to select between 2 inputs would save me some time. Any thoughts on achieving this? My initial idea was just to use an spst, outer poles being the tips of each in jack and the center being the tip of the out jack, tying all grounds together. But then my brain started working too hard thinking about an indicator led for each in and I've now confused myself in wiring diagrams for rotary selectors and feedback loopers. Any suggestions?

Hey guys,

Recently snagged a long time dream guitar of mine (MIJ squier supersonic), and I'd like to get a pickguard made. Not looking for anything fancy, just white pearl most likely. Unfortunately, there isn't much of a market out there for pickguards for limited production 1997 squier's, so I'm going to have to have one made. Anyone have any suggestions or experience with having one made? thanks!

So I found the match to etch the pitch pirate on fsb, but I can't get the sizing right to print it. Does anyone have a pdf? Bean spoils us :)

Build Reports / Any Casket Lottery Fans?
August 02, 2014, 10:23:20 PM
This pedal was done as a wedding gift for a good friend of mine. It's bean's swamprat. I went with a tshirt transfer for the art (Album cover for the casket lottery-moving mountains) followed by lots of clear coat. The controls labeled oh my god correspond to lyrics in one of the songs. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. I'm most proud of the guts. Certainly not Juan status, but I feel good about em.

I'm looking for a new project and this one seems cool, I just wanted to see if others had tried this one.

The squier supersonic. Not the new version, the 90s one made in japan. Aghh! Hopefully this auction goes my way. Any other fans out there?

Build Reports / My First Multi effector
June 10, 2014, 12:17:40 AM
Well, that was fun. This is A tri vibe into a neptune into a rub a dub deluxe. Twas a fun build indeed. astronomy nerds may notice I matched my knobs to the stars in the spectral class graph.  I've got a lot (read: A LOT) of populated PCB's in my pile and decided the best way to start making room for more is to start boxing multi's. This trio seems to work well together, sonically speaking. A lot of my builds end up being astronomy themed, and this one may be my favorite so far. My wiring didn't end up as cute as I had hoped, but I only had one of jacob's boards left and I wanted to save it for my sk2 build. Anyway, thought I'd share.

So I am getting ready to box up my first multi-effect, and I had a question about the power supply. I have seen people use a piece of Stripp board to do a ground bus and a 9 V bus, but I also thought it might make sense to run the power from the Jack to the power on the first board and then jumper all of the boards power pads together. I had the same thought about the grounds. Is there any reason why this wouldn't work at least as well as the strip bus ?

Build Reports / For My Marvel Friends
May 14, 2014, 04:46:39 AM
This is the Double Flush. I'm trying to complete the entire available etchable library here on the site, including all of those listed in the discontinued section. I'm not sure how deep I am into that specific rabbit hole, but here's another. I really like how versatile this thing is. I've been concentrating on my guts lately, and I'm proud of myself on this one (which means something because I usually save praise for others, never wretched old me). Well! Next up is boxing the blue warbler because I just dropped the non tayda LDR Jon sent me and I can't wait for that one!

Tech Help - Projects Page / Sk2 1/2 watt 10r?
May 09, 2014, 03:20:01 AM
Sorry if this is a double post, I'm not finding my other one. Is 1/2 watt necessary for r32 or will 1/4 watt work?

Is 1/2 watt essential here or is this just per original spec?

This is beans stage fright, no mods or extras. I tried to make the case look like it had blaster burns; it didn't entirely work out but I'm happy with the result.
