Finally put this together yesterday.  Pedal sounds fantastic when on but I'm getting no bypass when it's off. I am out for the day so I can't post pics.  Any ideas on why this might be happening? All the parts came from Mouser so that's not a problem.

Open Discussion / Mammoth Enclosures 35% Off
April 21, 2017, 07:36:20 PM
Mammoth has all their enclosures 35% off.  Don't know how long it lasts and if the discount applies to the colored ones (I've never purchased one of their powder coated ones so I'm not sure what the cost for color is).  Its a good deal for the the bare ones especially the big boxes 1590DD is $7.  1590bb $4.39 1590b $3.74 1590a $2.76.  I got 13 boxes (different sizes) and the shipping cost to TX was $9.72 Priority Mail.  YMMV.  Anyway I thought I would share this so you if you think its a good deal you can get some.  And I have never had any problems with orders from them, knock on wood.

General Questions / FV-1 Chips
March 01, 2017, 07:20:14 AM
For those of you who ordered one of David's Molecular boards you can buy a single chip from Experimental Noise for $18 shipped.  The chips are $10 and the shipping is $8.  They're setup to supply companies and will only do UPS thus the $8 shipping charge.  Smallbear is the only other place I can seem to locate these in the US and they're $17.75 plus shipping.  So you can save the shipping if you only need a chip. Just email them and they will send you an invoice.

If anyone else knows of a place to get these that's more reasonable plse post it.  Thanks.

Build Reports / Tesseract Reverb
February 19, 2017, 04:42:03 PM
I know there were not many people who got one of these from Chris but I just wanted to share some info on boxing this.  There's not much room at all. I put mine in a 1590BBT and you can see from the picture it is a tight fit (I had to file down the lip of the lid also).  There is very little room between the board and the top of the box. You might be able to push the board up and do side mount jacks. If you're doing top mounts push the board down as close to the foot switches as you can. I had to remove the cap (I think 26) at top and put a new one in and bend it over.  If you're going to use a 1590BB just measure it carefully. I think you can get it in with the Lumberg jacks but measure it.

Open Discussion / Eventide H9 Harmonizer

I've been really interested in getting one these but would like to get some honest inputs if there's some of you all that have one, had one, demo'ed one etc......  Pulling the trigger on this because of the expense is one of the biggest stoppers but I like the number of different options coming out of one pedal.  Reading through the manual almost puts you in the throws of having a NASA degree to make it work lol.  Would appreciate some opinions if possible.

Just to give a little more info I mostly play lead guitar in a church band. We seldom have a keys player so I am using a POG 2, delays, reverb etc.... To produce ambient sounds to help fill things out at times.

Arrow has free shipping US and on International orders of $50 or more for the month of September. No code needed. For those of you who are just starting out this is a great opportunity to stock up on resistors.  You can get carbon resistors for less than 1 cent but you have to normally go to the last page listed at the bottom to find them and they won't ship for 4 days.  I didn't need many on my restock but I did get some 15k metal for .01. Film caps are a toss up.  I needed to refill odd ones and most were out of stock (for 3 month in a row).

The do have some enclosed Switchcraft jacks for .34 cents (I am sure they're probably not US made). The screw shaft is plastic not like in the picture but I bought some on my last order and they seem ok. Haven't put anything together to use them yet.

Anyway just thought I would share this.

I had this working last Sunday. Took it out of the box to finish it and when I put it back in it has a horrible squealing coming out with the effect behind it.  I reflowed all the off board wiring, changed out 2 ICs and the transistors, replaced the power wire with shielded wire, grounded the output Jack lug and replaced the dc Jack. Nothing helped or changed the problem. My voltages are real close on the IC but the transistor bases are .78 and 1.12 off of the build doc. The transistors are BC 550s.  The component side picture was taken before I put the shielded wire on and the negative power wire broke off when I flipped the board to take a picture. Voltages were taken before it broke.  This is very perplexing since it was working perfectly before I took it out to finish it. Any help would be appreciated. Oh I ran this off of 3 different power supplies (battery, wall wart, and my board supply same results with all). Thanks in advance.

Build Reports / Green Bean Build
May 28, 2016, 04:44:55 PM
This is the I believe my 4th variant of a Tube Screamer that I have built.  The other 3 just have never produced the sound I wanted and there was something always missing. I would put them on my board and try to pretend I liked them and would end up taking them back off. I never had a real one so nothing to compare the builds too. So I put this together last night and finished today.  I was hoping it wouldn't be like the others, to bright, not enough dirt, etc... etc... I normally won't put a pedal on my board till it is finished.  This pedal surprised me so much that it got boxed and is going on stage in the morning. It has the sound I've been looking for when I turn the tone down below half and adjust with my guitar.  It has just that right amount of dirt when I click on the LEDs and flip the fat switch. This one is a real winner IMO and if your looking for a pedal that will provide a reasonable amount of dirt thats not full blown over the edge this could be it. I build it using Madbean's version. And Brian if you view this thanks for the great design.

Up front please don't crucify me for not being an electronics guru because I am not. I can put these things together and quite often they work.  I bought a Rabbit Hole and was doing some reading on the different variations to try and figure out which one to build.  I was reading a thread on the TDPRI forum and one of the commenters wrote:

"One last trick that I've gotten a lot of mileage out of is to make the filter cap that comes off your 9VDC source as big as you can. I now make it 470uF always, and I've seen at least one builder (Dice Works) use 1000uF. BJT transistors in these old crude circuits can be fantastic hum amplifiers with the sustain control all the way up - the big filter cap REALLY helps."

Most every gain pedal I built has so much hiss/hum that I end up not liking it. I know this is for the most part their nature.  But if I could go in and place a bigger filter cap on these pedals am I going to get a reasonable result as mentioned above without jacking something else up as far as sound goes?

Tech Help - Projects Page / Bumblebee Not Working
May 04, 2015, 12:54:02 PM
No idea what the heck I did to this. It will bypass but once switched on I get nothing. My voltages are way out of wack from the ones that I found from another post. I used a Road Rage to change the power input. This just blows me away. Maybe I have the Road Rage hooked up wrong but I followed the instructions. Any ideas on how I screwed up this 25 part build :o? Here are the voltages I am getting:

Q1                       Q2             Q3
E - 8.56                E - 8.66      E - 9.15
B - 8.46                B - 8.56      B - 9.10
C - 8.16                C - 8.13      C - 9.10

General Questions / Bias Control For Bumblebee
April 24, 2015, 06:51:06 PM
I received my AC-125 transistor set from Paul (Chromesphere) today for my Bumblebee build. He wrote a note on the invoice, suggested adding a bias control to the pedal and to ask on here for advice on how to do it. Did a forum search and if there is something I am not finding it.  Anyone have an idea on how to go about doing this? Thanks, Brian

Just got an email from Mammoth on a sale Apr 15 - 17. Here's the link:

http://secure.campaigner.com/Campaigner/Public/t.show?85uto--45iyj-z8nmdz0&_v=2

Only 4 things on sale (only thing interesting to me is the switches). Pro and premier 3pdts 35% off. A battery sled, clear fuse kits and a voltage regulator.

Got an email from Mammouth this morning and their Pro 3pdt is $2.47 and the Premier is $2.28 today and tomorrow. The deduction is in the cart when added. My IPad would not show the Premiers On the switch page so if that happens to you just do a 3pdt search in the store. I purchased the pros last time they did this an they seem to be good switches. Just a heads up if you like their switches.

I am looking to make a personal bulk purchase of 50 boxes (35 125bs,10 1590bbs, 5 1590dds) and have gotten a quote from daier out of China. One of the members over at DIYSB has bought from them and says they're good. Total is around $220 with FEDEX shipping.  Can anyone chime in here and let me know if this is a good/not good idea, had dealings with them or knows of another supplier with a better price? The price (a little over $4 a box) looks great. I build for myself and friends so the best quality is not a big concern.  This will keep me supplied for a couple of years. Would really like some experienced opinions from you all? Thanks,
Brian

General Questions / Sunking II Switch Mod Question
January 06, 2015, 01:43:53 PM
If someone who has built one of these could help me out I would appreciate it. Pedal sounds fantastic but not getting much out of the clip, thick or fat mods. It's like they don't do much at all. Is this normal or have I screwed something up (this would cetainly not surprise me as it is the norm with me building these things). I did a search and found the same posted questions but no one replied to it. Thanks,
Brian
