Introductions / Re: New guy here from Maine, USA

Welcome Ian. What Cody said it true. This is an awesome place. This is probably the most addictive hobby you will ever be involved in. Good building.

There is someone else that does it also. I pm'ed him and I thought I had saved the reply email but I guess I deleted it. I can't remember who it was but it wasn't Timbo.

Build Reports / Re: Rolo's Twin Peaks Tremolo

Great looking build. Mine hasn't received a lot of love either. It's boxed and working but not finished. I believe you just gave me the incentive to get on this.

Stringsthings you can use nylon screws. I wired mine together with solid hookup wire and used no screws and it really doesn't move.

You just wire it up and place it where you want it.

Looks fantastic. Thanks for the info on the wire shielding. Will definately do that when I build mine and cross my fingers that it will also fire up the first time.

I have to agree with Cody "that was quick."  Great job. I am on vacation and looking forward to getting home, putting this together and hopefully have a working pedal when done.

Open Discussion / Re: How was your Saturday?

Those situations always bring you back down to earth, don't they? LOL. I did something similar the other day. I had switched guitars, walked off to do something, came back, start playing and no sound. Pushed buttons, turned knobs, etc... And still no sound. Looked down at my cable and it was disconnected from my pedalboard. Oh how to be humble.  8)

What Mike said will help a lot.  When I first started most everything I built was in a 125b enclosure. That gave me plenty of room to do whatever I needed to do.  As my proficiency advanced I moved to almost all 1590b enclosures.  Most build docs will tell you what enclosures to use. If you are adding a lot of mod switches the enclosure may have to go up in size.  Most of the components I bought when I first started came from Tayda (not so much now).  I mostly use 50v electrolytic up to 100uf with a length of no more than 5x11mm. Once you get past 100uf you sometimes have to be careful because they increase in height and width. You can always lay an electrolytic on its side in most cases if it is to tall.  Transistors legs can be cut or again they can be bent over other components.

So you do something else besides buying basses and guitars lol?  My grandson would love one of those.

General Questions / Re: Resistor/ Capacitor Kits
March 22, 2016, 04:29:18 PM
I purchased one mega kit off eBay after doing what you did. And yeah I have a bunch of resistor values that I will probably never use. If I would have known about Tayda before I bought the kit I would have went that route because the resistor leads are the same. I still buy from Tayda but now I buy most of my common value resistors from Allied, Verical or Mouser (1, 10, 33, 47, 100, 220, 470, 1 meg, etc.....). They all have like a $5 shipping option and you can normally find resistors for a reasonable price without having to buy a bulk amount).

I think Jimilee might be on to something. Never thought to much about "I can't afford it, so I will hate it" theory but I think it has merit. I really don't understand why some people are so critical of pedal users. I believe they bring a great deal of musical initiative and creativity into your playing.  If you actually think about the time you spend getting everything set up to make that "sweet sound" it adds up. It's not just throwing a couple of pedals on a board and stomping them. It's really an art to get them to sound right IMO.

Would you mind posting a picture of how you have the trimmer hooked up and where you put the cap on IC1? I would really appreciate it.

Pedal Parts Plus has them. Hit the PPP in the header above.

Do a google search for hardwood (I don't believe you will find the bar the guys are talking about) in Atlanta.  It will bring up several places that will interest you. What you are looking for is businesses that supply cabinet making wood. They will or should have 8/4 (2") or 6/4 (1 1/2") lumber in the variety you are looking for.

That really look nice. Great job.
