Build Reports / Giant Pedals
December 06, 2019, 11:17:24 AM
I haven't posted in awhile. Here is some fun stuff you might enjoy.

I picked up two old audiometers recently and started building in them.  One is a boost/fuzz/filter machine and the other is a spring reverb (still finishing that one up).

Build Reports / Massive Overdrive Delay thingy
October 25, 2018, 07:10:26 AM
I thought you guys might like this. I have built a lot of huge oversized things, but this is by far the biggest haha! Including a toddler for scale.

I did some graphic design work for JPTR FX and he sent me some board, so this is his Jive circuit into his Fernweh with some added features (like a weird glithcy modulation circuit). I dont have a final wiring pic, only a midway one, but it shows how much room is inside haha.

Never again!

But turned out awesome. Modded pds20/20 and fuzz circuit in massive metal tabletop enclosure. All arcade buttons light up too.

Build Reports / Some fun recent projects
March 07, 2018, 07:58:40 AM
First up is a modded and rehoused pds1700. In a massive 1550G (but the board is so big it was still tight height-wise. Standard power jack, upgraded switching, added waveshape controls via key spst switches, external master time to get super weird and optional LDR control over this.  Super fun pedal and probably my cleanest rehouse.

General Questions / Mandroid troubleshooting question
January 12, 2018, 10:07:24 AM
I built a second mandroid. It sounds great, even better than the first I think. Everything functions as it should except the splode switch. It literally does nothing. It is not the switch. The function is just ramping no the warp pot right? So I can just tie pot legs together to get the effect. But I am just curious what would make the spot on the board not work. A couple of my ic voltages are off based on the build doc. First my ic 2 pin one voltage is negative instead of positive.

Honestly I like how it sounds now and tying the splode to the warp pot works fine. I am just curious what is going on.

I did some work for jptrfx and he sent me one of his fernweh boards. It is a dual delay. I did some fun mods to it in the process of building. One was a baby modulation circuit. It uses only three components! A candle flicker led, a drop down resistor, and a photoresistor. And it works! And I dig it.

I forgot to take a full gut shot before I buttoned it up. So just imagine the most beautiful wiring job ever, but know that It's not that.

Build Reports / mandroid build
January 09, 2018, 09:07:18 AM
Here is my Mandroid in a massive 1550G.  My new favorite enclosure size! Even then I didn't have enough room for the trigger switch to be on the face lol.  Also, check out that super sexy foot tall capacitor! Ordering mistake, but in this enclosure it is no biggie.

Build Reports / Kids' fuzz - now with demo

Made this to go with one of my daughters' presents. it didn't turn out very clean looking... But it looks to be the best of vintage Fisher-Price.

A Mask Audio Electronics SFD and a madbean stuttr.  The trem was housed in a used enclosure and I just covered all the old holes with a piece of pickgaurd. It is one of those things where it is so ugly it is kind of pretty.

Bought a pcb lot in the classifieds the other day and started building them.  Compressor and laying of hands on boost.

Modding and rehousing pds units into arcade looking consoles is my new addiction :)

Build Reports / Clarinot build

I have a ton of pds enclosures from rehouses I have done for people. So time to start recycling some of them :).

Clarinot with fuzzlift and feedback mod on second stomp.

Build Reports / Spring Drone

An instrument and not a pedal, but...there is a circuit in there.

Two piezos with individual vol and tone control. One runs clean and straight to the input, the other goes through and Electra distortion circuit. Can run either separately or both in parallel. The distortion channel is great at adding feedback and when ran in parallel the feedback is tamed but all the grit and distortion is retained :)

Thought I would share a couple more that I made with some additional features. I never planned on making more than the last one I posted, but Ryan Adams saw the last one somewhere and commissioned the primary colors one for his studio which was pretty cool so I decided to also make the red and black one simultaneously. I never want to look at another pds1700 again though now haha. I am still fighting the switching on the black and red one because it is behaving weirdly and is driving me insane, but otherwise they are done :).  I plan on making some more functional art, tabletop things like this :)

Build Reports / Molesting stomptown's moodring
May 03, 2017, 09:28:17 PM
Picked up stomptown's moodring build in the classifieds a while back and after seeing several modulated moodring builds I decided to give it a go and rehouse/mod it.

Guitar synth and sonic reducer.

Both need tweaks...the synth has hardly any audible lower octave (maybe that is a factor of my amp and single coils, not sure) and the sonic reducer has a high pitch noise even when bypassed (actually louder when bypassed). BUT, both work and otherwise sound awesome :)

Build Reports / Wooly Mammoth with an assist
April 08, 2017, 12:36:58 PM
This was to be my first completely solo build...but I ended up getting an assist from Mike (Flanagan). For some reason the circuit I made was behaving weirdly and after being unable to troubleshoot it together he sent me one of his populated prototypes.

This is the biggest cram I have ever done. A far cry from the vertical 1590dd I often do. This is a 1590b with side knobs and top jacks.

I bought stomptowns populated circuit in the classifieds and built this.
