It's enough to dismay anyone, that's for sure. I'd love to have something like it though. If you were really into it, check out the Neve 1073 (I think?), learn how it works then see how best to adapt it to guitar. Would probably be easier than finding and tracing a Colour Box.

...errr, probably not, actually.

Open Discussion / Re: Layout for ad-9 delay?
May 20, 2015, 06:59:55 PM
If you are unfamiar with doing layouts from schematics, I suggest you stay away from BBD delays. There are some imperative placements of the clocks, grounding, etc that can make a somewhat large and expensive PCB to fab totally useless. It can be done on perf for sure, if you have the patience! I would definitely read up on layouts, especially ones using BBDs. I know there are at least a few over on DIYSB that would be helpful!

You'll also need to figure out how to calibrate the thing, maybe it's possible by ear, but an oscilloscope would be helpful.

Anyway, to answer your question, I haven't seen a layout haha. Have you searched over at FSB? There's a lot of good stuff floating around over there. Maybe the person would be OK with an Aquaboy or something?

Very nice! Very tidy all around. Is all that blackness ink and the white just the glossy paper? The image is very sharp.

You've got nice handwriting!

I'd leave them the same.

Here's the thread on DIYSB for reference.

You're correct.

Dead Astronaut on DIYSB did a bass preamp that's the same thing with scaled down Tonestack.

Nicely done! The layout looks great too.

However I would go with some metal pots, but that's only my opinion.

Metal...pot? Knob, maybe?  ???
Yep, knob, sorry.  :-[

I thought maybe there was some kind of unobtainium metal pot you were supposed to use with that diode.  ;D

You'd think you'd be happy with something fused to the fuser roller?

Just kidding, I know nothing about printers, but it sound terrible and my condolences. Surely there has to be some kind of warranty, it's only been 5 days.

General Questions / Re: Line / Mic switch?

Those 47u (IIRC) are DC blocking caps, so phantom power goes to your mic and not to the input of the INA217 (or anything else). Check out the datasheet for the INA217. The input voltage is something like +/-3 or 4V. If phantom power was getting to it, I wouldn't be happy. Same with almost any type of music equipment. Line level is typically 1V. Nothing would be happy with 47V! That's why you apply phantom power before the preamp and not after. I'm sure there a better way to say it, ah well.

^^^ in what scenarios would using two series resistors or two parallel caps (or their counterparts) not result in the desired resitance or capacitance?

Where is the quoted "burn it" coming from?

If you want to do phantom powered, you are going to have to provide the phantom supply prior to the effect. If this is what you want, it would almost (definitely) be easier (and more versatile) to build a mic preamp with the phantom power, then feed that to the delay. You cannot go mic -> delay -> preamp/phantom power as that will either not let power get to your mic or "burn it".

The INA217 data sheet circuit does allow for phantom power if that was what you're asking?

I think you will get best results building a small mic preamp into the pedal, then you can just bypass it when you want guitar. The INA217 makes a SUPER simple mic preamp and takes your balanced input to unbalanced (what you need). You'll have to mess with the gain to make it similar to a guitar input. If you don't want to fuss with power requirements, there are a number of simple opamp based mic preamps.

According the AMZ it is! I imagine a lot of people got their part of their start from AMZ's teat, so probably. I think warp would be an overarching term, in this case, referring to any kind of harmonic mixing. The OP's idea is just one way to achieve it.
