That's awesome. I'm considering an HX stomp, and the upgrades you're doing make me want to not build v1 and wait for v2 of the Linda.

I think another useful button could be the midi control to turn on/off the tuner screen on the HX stomp.

I actually was just planning out what all I'm going to do for mine earlier this week. Finally getting around to tackling this after delaying it for so long.

If I wanted to do a stereo loop, I had the idea of cutting a couple of traces on the relay board and then using one switch heading to two loops connections so they both get controlled with one switch. Do you see any reason why that wouldn't work?

I know people are pretty into their flatwounds for bass. I've never ponied up the dough to buy a set, as they're like $78.

Might have to give those a try as well. I've been using d'addarios for awhile too and have thought about switching it up.

Damn that's a nice set up. I need that hexapus of a holder thing.

Also, that's one fancy microscope thing you've got going on there.

I would be wary of running the resistor at full rating for a long time, especially if it's mounted to the mean well psu. In the datasheet it says that the rated wattage is if it's attached to 4 x 6 x 2 x .04 inch aluminum enclosure, and the PSU is pretty close to those dimensions, but if it's steel or painting, it might not be enough. If it's bare aluminum it might not be making good enough contact to the case because of the ventilation holes.

I would get a 2.5 ohm 20 watt one and have it mounted to an actual heatsink or a decently thick aluminum bracket (say 1/8") to act as a heatsink. I've done something similar for tube amp head dummy loads.

How Do I? Beginner's Paradise. / Re: Holy Roller

You could use something like a 1k trimpot as a variable resistor with an 820 ohm resistor in series with that to give you an adjustable range of 820 to 1820 ohms. That way once you have it at 24v, you can just trim to find your ideal brightness for the led. Also if you're worried about burning out the resistor you could bump it up to a 1/2 watt component to give you some peace of mind.

Interested to see what you think about the holy roller because I've been thinking about doing one of those for myself.

Those photocouplers look like these: http://www.smallbear-electronics.mybigcommerce.com/photocouplers-macron-mi1210clx-series/ and they are a vtcl5c3 clone which is used in a good amount of modulation circuits for delays, envelope filters, phasers, etc.

The op27 is a low noise single opamp and I've seen them used in some pro audio schematics inputs on mixer channels, but I haven't seen them used in pedal stuff.

Yeah I noticed this too! You could also search the forum using Google by typing in "site:madbeanpedals.com/forum" followed by your search words.

Super necro, but as a general PSA for people trying to find things while the forum search function is down the above tip works wonders.

I know I'm late to the party and you already have your config picked out, but I wanted to chime in that I think doing it up like this would be cool

Is that a single up front? I might be up for that with a bucker in the back. I'm going to mull things for a few more days.

Here's a better picture of that Strat.

If your Strat has a pool route, you could keep the battery in there and not have to route for a battery compartment. Would be a bit of a pain to have to take the pickguard off anytime you need to change the battery though.

You could do a couple of Filtertrons  or Fender Widerange pickups. Or do something you don't see as much and get a couple of Mosrite style pickups. I believe you can buy some from Hallmark guitars.

You could rewire the tone control to act as a bass cut.

That is, if you don't ever use the tone control on it as it is.

I've had the idea to use something like an ECF82 which has both a pentode and triode in it to do like a variation of a Matchless Clubman preamp. Could be a cool application for a little amp like that.

I'm pretty sure on the AX84 forums I saw where someone posted something similar to what I described actually. Triode -> pentode -> power pentode.

Wow, talk about timing.  I just bumped into something like this the other day on Merlin Blencowe's page.  He offers a set of PCB boards for amp prototyping, and just released a board for the ECL86--almost precisely what you're talking about, a triode/SC pentode combo tube.  If you're interested in checking it out, here's the link:

http://www.valvewizard.co.uk/ecl86pcb.html

Merlin has some cool stuff, I've got two his books.

The ECL86 is a combo triode with a power tube in one. I meant more like the combo of a triode and a small signal pentode. I know there are some that are essentially a 12ax7 and an EF86 in one tube.

Those ECL86's are super cool though. One of those with a 12ax7 in front could give you a nice range of dirt options. Just that extra bit of oompf over a valve Jr.

Coffee, food, and beer! Almost everywhere we ate was good.

When my wife and I visited Portland a few years back we walked by voodoo without knowing it and saw it had a stupid long line. Like 3 blocks. Then we saw what people got and eh, didn't look that great.

The Japanese style garden there is pretty cool too. It's right next to the rose test gardens. Great place if you need to chill out. I don't think it's free though.

Also plus one on Powell's. No joke take some books and sell them there for store credit, they actually buy at decent rates (at least better than around here).
