Errata, Corrections, Revisions / VFE Focus wiring correction
« on: September 05, 2019, 04:42:36 PM »
On the wiring diagram I had the wires shifted to the wrong pads on the audio PCB. The build pic showed the right connections, however. I've updated the pdf and zip files with the correct wiring.

Global Annoucements / Restocks are in.
« on: August 14, 2019, 03:31:10 PM »
All projects back in stock.

- The TRXPN board is now automatically included with all Total Recall purchases.
- There is an updated AQB MOD board (it adds an extra optional resistor). I'll have the updated docs tomorrow. Also, this board is now just $1. Several other projects dropped by $1, as well. Whoopee.

I'm shooting for next week for the new stuff. The next giveaway (Snarkdoodle) will coincide with the release of those projects.

Global Annoucements / Next giveaway coming soon!

Hey, I designed my first PCB layout in like three months! This one will be a giveaway coming up in a few weeks. It's the old but not forgotten Snarkdoodle (Way Huge Red Llama) in a 1590A package. Maybe not that exciting for long-time DIY'ers but it's an easy build and sounds hella good...esp. set for low gain.

Rej, of GrindCustoms, is a longtime mbp member and part of our DIY community. He was recently awoken from a 2 week coma due to an infection. He seems to be doing very well now, but if you want the full story he has a lengthy video on his Facebook page with all the details.

Please take a moment to wish him well on Facebook, or here. He is actually very lucky to be alive from what he described. Get well, Rej!

Also, there is a special batch of a particular project in the "delay" section that people have been asking for. Only a few to start....maybe more later.

Global Annoucements / Store re-opening tomorrow and update from me
« on: July 31, 2019, 06:34:40 PM »
I still plan on opening the store tomorrow. I'm not sure what time as I expect delivery of re-stocks tomorrow, too, and I will want to check them over first. Anyway, just about everything will be back in stock.

I've been on an extended break from madbeanpedals. Without going into too much detail, I had an elective surgery in June which required a few weeks recovery time and I also ended up dealing with some post-surgery complications which extended that further. Consequently, I have not done anything pedal related for a couple of months and none of the new projects are going to be released now. However, I am doing a lot better and I will get them out as soon as I can. In the meantime, I would appreciate it if everyone just hold on a bit longer - I know there is a lot of interest in the new stuff and I am more than ready to get them off my plate.

The OD section of the Shop page is looking really pretty pathetic. I've spent a great deal of time working on modulation ideas over the last year and literally none on overdrive. What kind of OD projects would you like to see? I don't want to do clones of boutique stuff and there's already a lot of that out there anyway. Also, I'm not going to so anything that's already covered by the existing VFE projects since I still have lots of those boards.

More tube based projects, maybe? And different types of tubes? Or, something else? Something totally original (haha, yeah, whatever that would be)? Maybe combining OD with another type of effect...hmmm.

One project I do hope to add this summer is my (discrete) pedal version of the Vox Night Train, if I can finally get the damn thing to work right. Maybe a couple more amp to pedal conversions? I used to do one for the Carmen Ghia several years ago that was pretty neat.

Anyway, throw your ideas out if you have them.

I've been pining for a Jazzmaster for a few years. For the longest time I was leaning toward selling a bunch of gear and getting a Suhr JM Pro (which looks and sounds killer, IMO). But, I honestly can't justify the price point of $2500. I started looking at other true Fender Jazzmasters and found a used 60th anniversary I liked a lot for a decent price. Still...quite expensive. In the end I went to Guitar Center and tried out a few (American, Mexican and Chinese versions) and decided the J Mascis was going to be good enough to satiate me. The one I demoed played quite well. I'm not a huge fan of cream colored guitars but it is growing on me. Anyway, I bought the shit from Sweetwater and it will be here soon. Pretty sure I made the right choice in terms of quality vs. price-point. I love to buy American guitars when I can but I don't expect this to be my #1 (that's my SG!)

The one I picked was the second lightest due to a slightly nicer figuring on the fretboard. Will update with my thoughts once I have it in hand. This will be my second Squier (other is a Bass vi).

I guess the title sums it up. FWIW. Or, at least they now include the estimated sales tax at check out.

Where have you been all my life? My new favorite. If you haven't given 3mm a go I suggest it. It's pretty much all I will use now. The Primetone ones are good also.
