a 1590a noise reduction pedal would be nice

i am mentally preparing myself for the first half of may.

i don't know, i have a similar amp somehow and i like the eternity od.
asymmetrical, high mids hump. i don't know, each his own?
let's say i use it with a big push in volume and my guitar has the tone control half the way.
i usually keep the tone control in the first half.
i like it. that's me.
btw, tele and bridge pick ups are a very bright combination, i use humbuckers.

wow, big world the one you're talking about.

the first thing i wanna say is: don't push your nephew too much in a music career, let him choose and prospect him the bad sides (there's a lot of them) and what could go really wrong.

after that i can suggest you to hang around at gearslutz, there you can film zillions of problems and answers for your questions.

third, i say you/yr nephew need(s) a computer for sure, an audio interface, a pair of monitors, maybe headphones, a few mics.
even the minimum stuff will require big bucks, eventually you'll understand that, and a lot of efforts.
better stuff will cost you a lot more, but it will be certainly better, quality&sound-wise.

i have the home recording bug myself.
if the boy main instrument is the drums, i can say you are screwed. you'll need money.
but you can use a nice combination of brain and mics.
maybe a 4 mics setup like snare,BD,OHs  can do the trick.
actually i have an awesome minimal drum kit and 5 mics: snare, BD, floor tom, 2 mics as  room/ohs sound, they are AEA r48 and Gefell umt70s. my dynamics are beer m201, m88, sennheiser 421.
i can do everything with these and i have an enormous verity of sounds.
(yeah, big money, but i build my own studio preamps and compressor, so i save there somehow)

another VERY important thing is a good room sound. if you have a nice sounding room, you have half the work done.

you'll have your time learning all this stuff
good luck

yeah, PPP shipping is not so awesome.
they asked me 53$ for shipping 10 boxes and 10 3pdt to europe..

shipping oversea is very expensive. i wish it was cheaper and faster..

the whole iron ring thing is nice. congrats for your achievement.
isn't that ring too tight for your finger? it looks like a pain to fit in

oh my god Yanko_mr , i'm sorry to say this but the soldering job look s VERY bad.
very. (don't get offended, i didn't mean to be harsh, you just have have to make a little bit of practicing with the soldering iron, that's it. my first job i threw it in the trash)

soldering is the first thing you have to take care of.
if you made something wrong somewhere it will pop out when the soldering is good.

good luck!

hi guys. i need some polarity protection diodes.
1n4001s are the one always recommended, but i have a big load of 1n914s.
can i use them in projects like dirtbag dlx, current lover, weenier way, green bean and others?
thanks guys

yeps. i still have some leakage problems with the crunch channel (it spills into the clean) but it's just a matter of finding out what's the voltage the VTLs work best.
it's a small head, not a combo. you can't put an ef86 in a combo and expect it to live more than a week.
honestly i find that clean very limited in a dual channel solution, too much contrast with the soldano (the lack of a tonestack, and the incredibly thick tone). it would be very nice in single channel amp.

i can give you some advices, schematics if you want, some tips, but you can find everything you need in places like music electronics forum or sloconeforums.

building an amp it's not easy, it's not an overdrive. it takes a lot of work, a lot of learning, and if you don't pay attention you can risk your life because of the hi voltages. and it's not cheap.
but it's awesome.
if you have no experience and wanna start with amps i suggest an "easy build" like a 5f1 head.
if you need some additional info just PM me

well, i don't have a suggestion, i can only describe my amps:
currently i have 3 amps, all built by myself

1) a fender princeton aa964 with a 5y3 rectifier and better filtering, with phase inverter and tremolo taken from 5g9 vibrolux. 3 ways switchable feedback.
i have even a reverb unit in the cabinet, with one 6bm8 and one 12ax7.
actually built in a 5f2 cabinet.
sweetest amp i ever heard. very nice clean, very nice break up. the tremolo is hypnotic. the reverb from the unit is very beautiful and flexible, but i had to use the short springs because of the cabinet ( 5f2 was the original project 2 years ago). if i could co it again i would choose a bigger cabinet and a 12" speaker. that's the only regret. more space, easier to build and to drill. probably i would use a princeton BF cab and chassis.

2) a dual channel, el84s based 18w with channel switching. basically a soldano atomic 16 built on a slo100 board, with an ef86 based clean channel. 3 ways sw feedback, but no feedback on el84s is ear-piercing.
the crunch channel is AWESOME! sounds like a mini jcm800.
the clean channel is powerful and thick. no eq, just a sweepable hipass.
i use this amp basically for home recording, so that's why this particular configuration.
the clean paired with a Mudbunny with mids and germanium diodes is TOTAL  DOOM.
but it's really good even with a Slambox. sort of an AC10.

3) a 100w, which i use as gig amp. 3 channel amp, based on the Soldano Slo100. clean is a fender preamp
with reverb, like the twin. crunch and lead are based on the slo100, with separated eqs. no loop. 3 feedback modes. this amp is truly awesome but f**king LOUD. the overdrive is unbelievable.
the crunch i very tight and full. the clean is like the twin. it becomes a good bass amp removing tonestack with a switch and feeded by a faultline.

i'm renewing my pedalboard right now, so i plan to use this stuff with:

Slambox, Collosalus, Green Bean, Mudbunny (with focus kn, mid kn, and switchable diodes system),
phase 90, small clone, DMM, and the weener wah.

that's all my stuff, i hope this post to be inspiring for someone.

oh, and i built my guitar too, a warmoth jazzmaster with an humbucker at the bridge.
(splittable, of course)

Build Reports / Re: Stage Fright

Here's the update on this one. I am in the middle of building up the last prototype. The first build up above is an 8-stage phaser based around the old Maestro one. It has switchable stages 2-8. However, after I built that one, I found out that I REALLY LOVED subbing in the univbe caps in four stages. It sounds f'n AWESOME!

The problem is fitting that into the existing 8-stage design proved to be difficult, at least if you want to switch between univibe and phaser modes.

What followed was a freakin hard time of figuring out how to integrate the two ideas. What I found was that it was pretty near impossible to fit 8 switchable stages AND the univbe mod into a 1590BB without making some serious comprises in the layout.

So, this newest version is 6 stages and lets you pick 2, 4, 5 and 6 stages and uses a 4PDT to toggle the phaser and univibe modes in the first four stages. It also might have some cool blinking lights.

Anyway, I'm giving all this detail just to illustrate the process a bit more. LaceSensor mentioned a few weeks ago that transparency in the project development would be welcome, so maybe I should start up a new section of the forum that explains the process I go through in working on things...as a teaching tool? I dunno. Feels weird to say that!

cool. so, is this revision the released one in february? i don't understand..
