Build Reports / Re: LemonOD
October 31, 2022, 06:39:35 PM
So far, my symptoms have been milder than the aftereffects of the vaccines (got the latest booster a couple weeks ago), but with a persistent cough and congestion added on top. Cold and flu medicine initially controlled it mostly, but it isn't working as well now.  Three out of the four people in my household got it.  The fourth, my older kid, has some unicorn magic in his immune system, it seems.

Build Reports / LemonOD
October 31, 2022, 04:07:14 PM
I'm currently suffering through COVID, after avoiding that germ for nearly 3 years, so I have decided to do a rehouse of an old project with a lemonade theme. When life gives you lemons, make lemonOD.

The circuit is a tube screamer with Landgraff mods, and I added Jack Orman's fat mod as a bonus.

The left-hand toggle selects clipping: silicon (asymmetric), open, or LED.  The right-hand toggle enables the fat mod.  The knobs (left to right) are: drive, tone, and level.

Wow!  That is an ambitious project!  Nice work!

You'll have to help me parse the first sentence of your post though.  ;)

Is that an engraved faceplate?

Thanks!  That writing took lots of touch-up and revision.  It is easy to correct/tweak acrylic paint pen with either alcohol or a hobby knife.

In my years of building stuff, I have for some reason never made a test harness box.  Now I have.  Meet my lab assistant Igor:

Now I can more properly "rock it before you box it".

For posterity (and in case I lose my notes):
I used 2N2222A transistors (different from the ones in the original gut shot).  They measured:
Q1 = 96
Q2 = 145
Q3 = 210

Thanks!
The box is candy teal from smallbear, by the way.  I don't know if they'll ever get them back in stock.

I reserve the right to change my mind on this design (with acrylic paint pens, it is easy), but I added a name, and I will see if it grows on me.

I just got tired of the the whole decal process for a a while, and I don't want to take the time to do it.

It's quite freeing, tossing fancy labeling out of the way (this build is for me to play around with anyway).  I had this candy teal enclosure for quite awhile, not knowing what to do with it.  I didn't want to mess it up poorly applied clear coat.  Paint markers were the answer I didn't know I was looking for. Sometimes simplicity is inspiring.   ;D

Build Reports / Chaos Agent (horizontal layout)

This is my build of the Chaos Agent.  I am happy to be able to post a working build after my last setback (still debugging that Naughty Fish).  I may add some more paint pen to the enclosure eventually if I can think of a name or anything to draw.

Jimilee inspired me with his recent builds to use a white pen on this.

I decided it was ok not to do graphics, it's such a PITA

Excellent!

I really like the Archibald.  I highly recommend it, especially to anyone who plays solid state or otherwise clean amps.

I see that the buffer switch is now a panel feature.  I have never changed my DIP switches to try it without the buffer.  Perhaps I will give it a try..

Build Reports / Naughty Fish build (almost)
October 10, 2022, 12:39:44 AM
I have made it through a build of the wonderfully-tight Naughty Fish mutron iii clone.  Only problem is, well, it doesn't work right just yet.  The envelope follower seems to be fine, but the filters either cut out completely, don't affect the signal much, or oscillate.  Some debugging is in my future, but I think it looks nice, anyway.  ;D  I'll provide an update once I get it working.

Look great!  Did you change your branding?
