Open Discussion / Re: Harpsichord / Cembalo - FX Pedal

Check out the EHX Effectology video series by Bill Ruppert. I don't know if there is one specifically on harpsichord, but he shows you how to get lots of different non-traditional guitar sounds from various combinations of pedals.

Here is the one with steel drums:

General Questions / Re: Ibanez CS9 Clock Frequency

Side note: Searching the internet for the proper trimmer settings led me to a lot of weird posts.  Apparently, if you max out the bias trim on a CS9 you can increase the output volume of the pedal and use it like a boost. Who knew!   ::)
If you want tricks...You could turn down the feedback control on and FL9 and Blam-o ... You've got yourself a CS9 with a delay time control. Just set it somewhere near noon for the CS9 time

( edit: I was half joking but decided to try it anyway and see how close I could get. The FL9 sounds much darker and there is less dry signal mixed in. This will get you a chorus type sound in a pinch, but it's definitely not the same sparkly sound you get from a CS9)

I'm starting to suspect that the clock frequency might be the main difference between the CS9 and the CE-2.  The circuits are pretty darn close, except CS9 has a trimmer for the clock and CE-2 has a fixed value.
I think the a delay time ranges are different between the two. The CS9 is 3.2 - 8.5ms and the CE2 is something like 5 - 40ms.

Trademarks have been a thing for a long time but I'm sure the laws and other details have slowly changed over time. Why didn't these companies register the trademarks for headstock shapes and body shapes along with the logos back when they did those in the 50's and 60's. The headstock shapes didn't get registered til the 70's, 80's and 90's. The body shapes weren't registered till the 2000's. I'm not a lawyer so who knows what's changed and when in that many years.... Especially with Big Mouse Corp and it's interventions into the system.

I'm thinking about trying my hand at winding some full size bobbin Firebird pickups with alnico 2 magnets for it. I've never done it but it looks to be within the realm of possibility.

There are plenty of regular mini firebird pickups out there but not many people make a full size one so I'm not sure what they would sound like.

Very nice! Is that copper color

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yep they call it "Vintage Copper". It's looks better in certain lights than others. It's somewhere in between semigloss and satin and has a very slight texture with minimal wood fillers.

It's this one, with vibrola added

I did some hardware updates on it and like how it looks much better now.

Chrome tuners with pearloid buttons
Cream switch tip
Reflector knobs
Chrome roller bridge
Chrome vibrola handle

It's been a little bit, but just to keep it real here... Fender does this same stuff. The distinction is, had they won this case, all these companies and more would have gotten C&D letters.

They "targeted":

"Spector Designs, US Music Corporation, ESP Guitars, Sadowsky Guitars, Lakland Musical Instruments, Peavey Electronics, Warmoth Guitar Products, Schecter Guitar Research, Michael Tobias and others"

Necro bump.

Gibson is now suing Mojo Hand FX over the name "Mister O" phaser, which could be mistaken for "Maestro".
https://www.gearnews.com/gibson-serves-mojo-hand-fx-with-cease-and-desist-over-mister-o-pedal-name/

Still up to their usual Gibson tricks I see. I hope that company dies and does so very soon.

In all likelihood, Gibson is probably in a better financial position than they have been in a long time.  They shed a lot of the dead weight companies that Henry J. bought and got back to their core profitable business: building guitars.  That, coupled with 2020 being a record year for guitar sales, makes it pretty unlikely that they will fold anytime soon, but we will see.

I concur. They're signing artists again, plus they're talking about a Gibson label? I don't know. I feel like their quality has improved and they're heading in the right direction. This lawsuit is a bit of a stretch though, I feel like.
On the second page of the cease and decist letter, it says that the Mojo marketing material was misleading or whatever... I agree thet based on the logo alone, it's stretching, but if mojo marketing was off then it makes more sense.

Edit: apparently the New Kids on the Block are to blame

I use tip cleaner when I'm done. Ive always thought it was leaving on the acidic flux that corodes the tip. I've tried it without cleaner and just a glob solder and the tip went faster. I use a wet sponge for the interim wipes and have never had an issue.

Weller says otherwise but it works for me. I get a couple of years out of a fine tip

General Questions / Re: VFE Triplet

That is just how it works. The comp knob in the Triplet is a Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer. I believe there is a note about it in the build doc

It just means that you now need to go to the audio probe
