Build Reports / Re: Zombie Chorus - enclosure voting

That is a gorgeous enclosure, super clean so it's a real shame that happened! That said, it is also a great color combo for some faux vintage relic thing, but you'd have to go all the way (so really have some chipping in logical places, dirty it up a bit and make sure that that aluminum underneath isn't so darn shiny!).

So I could go with both options a and c.

Gee, thanks for all the kind words, very encouraging. I have some more 1590As planned (in fact, I've got a very pedal minded Christmas break planned ;D), but all relatively small circuits. Once I get comfortable with those, I'll try something more challenging, but that might take another season or two.

@Pickdropper: I'm quite pleased with those enclosed jacks, might start using them in regular sized pedals too.

@DutchMF: bought a 1590A @ Banzai and experimented with Hammerite Hammertone paint. The silver grey seems to give the best, deepest hammer effect, blue is also nice, copper and gold are so so (not so deep) and red is almost flat when it dries. I first applied it with a roller, but I've now found out that dabbing it on with a foam brush gives the best result. Must give the red a go again with a foam brush. Wrote the text on with a Posca paint marker from the art store and then clear coated with a spray can. Good luck ;)

I've made some adjustments to the PCB design after this test by the way. The wiring could've been neater if I had positioned the jacks a little closer to the top. The wires sort of get crushed between the jack and the 3pdt, so next time, I'll give them a little more room or route them over the top. Still, very pleased, and it sounds huge.

Build Reports / Stargazer 1590A
December 08, 2013, 05:23:38 AM
My first 1590A build pedal build! I've done things like a Road Rage in a 1590A before, but this is the first real pedal! Now, it pales compared to some 1590As I've seen in this place, but it's a start. It's a 1-knob Fuzz Face with Germanium OC141s.

General Questions / Re: What do you use for Clear Coating
December 02, 2013, 09:13:51 AM
Just plain vanilla alkyd or nitro high gloss clear from a spray can. Get a spraying mask with carbon filters as well. It's a bit expensive, but I so should've bought this years ago (glad I did last month, never again without).

First off: make your posts easier to read (start sentences with a capital letter, make paragraphs etcetera).

Which schematic are you using and what transistor?

Another word of advice: don't post your mailadress like that, you'll be spammed to death if unlucky. Get a photobucket account or something similar to upload your photos. Works quite well.

I used to be an aspiring comic creator. There was a trend in the newspapers here a few years back to have a competitions for the comic sections of the paper. At the end somebody would 'get the job', but up to that point they had months of free content from people their submissions. All the pro comic people I know where very angry about that...Still, most of them sent in their submissions anyway. We hate the system, but still get fooled by the promise of something bigger...which is why it works.

I've been using a Nano for years! It's great for jam sessions! I used to carry around a Pedaltrain Jr. on my bike, ruining my back. None of that since the Nano. Tuner, booster, overdrive, delay and I've got my basic tone. Usually put a wah next to it.

If I used 1590As like you did here, I'd probably be able to get my entire setup sans wah on there. Very pretty. When is your 1590A Wah coming ;) ?

@DutchMF: I'm probably in, maybe we should check if Conrad stocks it?

@Garfo: yes, that capacitor rolls of some high end. Similar trick used in the feedback path of a Tube Screamer. The JHS Morning Glory has an additional switch that controls an extra capacitor in the 2nd feedback path, to roll off even more highs.

General Questions / Re: Using a ICL7660SCPA
November 14, 2013, 02:33:31 PM
The Z denotes itbeing lead free.

I've used the 7660 quite succesfully, but in combination with some other stompboxes, it gives weird clock noises. So i suggest you socket it, so that you can replace it if at some point it interferes with your setup.

Banana?
An Emma Reezafratzitz clone built on a THN Technik board fabbed by Haberdasher. Really good distortion this one. I'm surprised it's not built more.

Why minions? Why Reezafratzitz...?

Clearly, all knobs should've been labelled BANANA
