General Questions / Mudbunny little simple mod help
October 21, 2017, 02:27:36 AM
Hey guys. After I have built a mixed version of the mudbunny box, I wanted to know how could I filter some of the higher frequencies off the effect?
I wad thinking of just adding a capacitor to ground after or before the volume pot.
I play bass with it and run the tone at 1 o'clock to get a bit more of the trebly sound. The problem is the hiss part of it, somewhere around 10k that needs to go specially when I'm playing through a DI box.
Guys, any idea of where to put it and what an approximate cap value I could use?

Open Discussion / Fuzz that is active friendly???
February 06, 2017, 11:27:09 AM
Ei guys, I'm getting quite frustrated here.
I've built two pedals already, a Big Muff and a Tonebender MKiii, and I love the sound of both on my bass.

My bass is Active ( ACguitars Filter preamp) and has a lot of output. Both pedals fart if they see the full signal of my bass, and need to roll back the volume to get effected and clean signal at similar volumes.

I have both now sitting and feel really frustrated, specially cause I love the Tone of the tonebender...  :'(

Any fuzz pedals out there that won't suffer from this???

General Questions / Two circuits same box in parallel
November 04, 2016, 12:51:07 PM
I'm in the need of reducing the size of m pedal-board, and therefore I'll be changing some things. One of them will be stacking some circuits in the same enclosure as I use them simultaneously anyway.

I have a Boss CE-2 clone and a Sea Urchin Delay that I was thinking of running them in Parallel instead of series. I remember once I encountered a problem when wiring two circuits in parallel ( Two identical State Variable Filters) and I fixed it placing a small resistor of the same value on the output of each one.

What are the odds this would happen again?

General Questions / Nautilus Low pass only
November 03, 2016, 03:34:28 AM
Guys, I've been using the Neutron for quite some time and I'm moving the pedal to a smaller enclosure. As I want to save space and only use the Low Pass section. How do I wire it without the switch?

I was checking the project and there's S1, S2 and S3. I understand I should bypass one of these to SA. But witch one is witch?

So, I've go this Colorsound Jumbo tonebender that has a huge volume drop if I plug my active bass into it. My bass has a decent amount of output (hot) signal witch makes the Jumbo stuck in terms of volume.
I have added an impedance input control pot already but that is not helping. I am also adding the last gain stage to see if it is possible to recover some of the volume. I'm under the impression this will not work though.
Any one knows how to emend this?

Thanks guys

This pedal sounds amazing, but it is expensive as hell. Darkglass has now the newer version which is the Microtubes b7k, so maybe doing a version of the previous model would be a good deal for us bassists.

Hi, I'm thinking of building this schematic.. It is a Fet version of the legendary Alembic F2B bass preamp. Should I scale down the tonestack for lower noise?
Such as:
C3- 2.5n;
C4- 1u;
C5- 470n;
R5- 10k;
Bass/ Treble- 25k pot; Mid: 1k Pot!?!

Here's the schematic

Hey, I've build a Transistor leakage and hfe device from Guitar FX layouts.
The transistors I'm testing are old Russians MP39's.
The readings I'm getting are a little bit low, but I'm not sure how to make the conversions or even interpretate the readings.
Multimeter was set for Voltage (2volts) for measuring leakage and hfe, but I'm not sure this is the way to go.
I've tested two already: First one: Leakage: 0.030 mA; Hfe: 35
Second one: 0.050 mA; Hfe: 37
I took the reading in voltage and divided by 2.472(K) whitch is the value of the resistor I'm using. The result is supposed to be in mA.

I'm not sure what this means. How do I know if it is leaky or not!?

Thanks, hope someone with more knowledge can help

Can someone help figure out how do I determine the treble frequency on this schematic? I wanted to set the freq around 3k.
I believe it is arround the 2.5n/10k/25k pot section. This is supposed to be around 5k on the original build.

 http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.pt/2013/04/sadowsky-preamp.html?m=1
So, I've built a Sadowsky bass preamp from tagboard effects and I'm having some doubts understanding if this project is working as it should. My first doubts happen because the preamp has tones of output as well as some distortion which doesn't seem right.
So, I went to the official site and looked for the parameters of the device and there are two versions, the onboard and the out board.
the onboard says it is 1M input impedance and 1k output impedance. It makes sense to me because it has a final 1k resistor on the output and a 1M input resistor if one ignores the input 500k volume pot.
The pedal version, says it has 330k input impedance( it matches with the 500k pot and the 1M res in parallel, but then it says it has 10k impedance on the output, and here I can't really understand. I think that who made this layout might have mixed the two.
Truth is I'm trying to make this pedal sound the best and if possible stay true to the original.
anyone can help figuring this out? anyone who perhaps happens to have this pedal!?
I see a couple of scenarios here:
1:Maybe there would be a 500k pulldown resitor on input in parallel with the 1M resitor witch would make 330k input impedance, and perhaps a 10k volume pot on the output!?
2:500k volume pot on input and 10k resistor on output instead of 1k
3:No volume pot on input, and a 100k pot on output? (This one is a solution that some people who have made this pedal have adopted.)

General Questions / How do I use Ferrite beads?
February 04, 2015, 10:31:09 AM
I'm building a Chunk Chunk and since it is High gain, I was thinking of adopting the Ferrite beads methode on audio input. I've took a look on Google and the pictures I see are of wires wrapped in turns arround the beads, and on other places I saw that people were suggesting of just sliding the beads through the wire.
How should it be done?

General Questions / power brick introducing hum
February 02, 2015, 08:40:17 AM
I have bought a Fame(musicstore brand from Germany) dc power brick.
This unit is supposed to be a well regulated copy of the Voodoolab pp2 with regulated and isolated grounds. When I first bought this unit it worked sharms, but two weeks ago while connecting two guitar amps to a Paramix I've build, the 12v dc channel started humming. I thought it had something to do with the amps, but when I went back to my rig, the paramix, when running from that 12v channel continued humming. Any thoughts?
It is the only outlet that is working like that.

General Questions / pt2399 lock up
January 30, 2015, 05:08:46 AM
Ei there. I have a Sea Urchin that I've built that doesn't always put out delay. Sometimes the delay just stops working. Could this be a case of the Chip delay locking up?
I've even rebuilt the board and made a tidier build and still sometimes I don't get delay.

Is there a way of fixing this?

What is the best way to wire an onboard preamp with a 3pdt toggle switch for active/passive modes?
Is it ok to use the Madbean standard wiring method?

Open Discussion / ibanez tonelok switch replacement?
December 14, 2014, 07:23:27 AM
Hey everyone, I have had two Ibanez DE-7 delay pedals in the past and both crapped on me. I was thinking of getting a new one but only If I could replace the switch for a similar one of better quality.
So, I wanted to check if anyone knows what type of switch it is!?

General Questions / Zero point sdx DE-7 tunning help.
December 13, 2014, 06:46:20 AM
Ei there, I have built the Zero point SDX a while back. I have used and owned the Ibanez DE-7 before and really loved that pedal.
The Zero Point SDX, on tape mode, has a similar saturation but it gets into weird oscillation pretty quickly as in 1 o`clock . Is there a way of fine tuning this section of the circuit so that the Tape Delay doesn't go into crazy oscillation so soon?

General Questions / Mudbunny input section R2/C1
November 29, 2014, 08:12:51 AM
I have a doubt regarding the input section of the mudbunny. I've realized that it always has a resistor followed by a capacitor. Happens that I've found two Colorsound vesions the Supa tonebender and the Bass Fuzz (GGG versions) that first have the input capacitor and only then the resistor. Does this have any kind of impact on the sound or the way the pedal responds?

Ei there, I have been using a Jumbo tonebener clone that I've built a while ago from the ggg site. I love the sound of the pedal but now that I'm using it more often I notice that it lacks on volume compared with my normal sound.
I was thinking that perhaps I could add the last stage but I'm not sure how to do it. Looking at the boards layout I can see that this and the Supa tonebender are very similar. So, could I use the final stage of the supa tonebender on the Jumbo tonebender? If possible not using the second clipping, just use it as an amplifying stage?
Not sure I can post the schematics here...

General Questions / Boss Ce-2
November 20, 2014, 02:18:45 AM
Is there any single sided version of the Boss Ce-2 project laying around? I've got some pieces I've removed from a beaten Ross Chorus I had laying around, including the original IC's, and wanted to use them on a Ce-2.

So, that's it.
How can I adjust how much into oscillation the delay goes? On the Rebote delay it is a 10k resistor that can get adjusted in order to control oscillation. What about on this project?
Here's the documents:
