VFE Projects / Pinball question
March 16, 2019, 01:25:51 PM
I want to build a pinball so it can be used as it was designed. But was wondering if I could add a loop as well. Let's say I want to modify only a big buff in a petalboard arrangement. Should the loop be on the eq, or the muff?

I've seen plexiglass spacers on some of the enclosures (under the lid)
Does somebody make these, or are they a custom made thing?

Open Discussion / Fart'n around at the bench
March 08, 2019, 12:24:12 AM
I was trying out some new printer paper for enclosure etching. Turned out a huge failure, but I had all the gear out for messing around with salt solution so I started playing around with that like a mad scientist with a arc welder

Test 1 was a 6v battery and that was a joke (slight fog)

Test 2 I snapped 2, 9v's together and hit it. This time i masked off a area to see a definite line

At this point I was ready to clean up and go towards a copper sulphate solution tomorrow.
I look over and see soy sauce on the counter.  Hmmm

Test 3, 18v & soy sauce. Believe it or not, it had the best reaction so far and a little quicker.

Tomorrow the copper sulphate comes out along with bench power

General Questions / Struck gold
March 07, 2019, 04:59:36 PM
I gave up on pedal building about 6 years ago due to moving. I'm slowly getting back into it. Today I was cleaning the shed and came across a box that had 14 pcb's and 3 unopened orders from tayda !
Woo hooo!

Anybody ever try building a 4x8 cab ? I was thinking about this when I seen the Celestion eight 15's
Might be a cool little match for the tiny giant

Open Discussion / Marshall JCM 2000
December 16, 2013, 11:29:18 PM
Went in to a pawn shop today to test drive a Pro Jr. All of a sudden a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 401 comes out on the sales floor. I thought no way is this thing in my price range. Started talking to the guy and he said it had a couple of bad tubes in it. Said I could have it for $200 After a little talking and haggling I walked out with it for $125 ! Tube shopping time  : )

Open Discussion / cap question
December 15, 2013, 10:24:02 PM
I have a recipe to mod a DS-1 in the parts list it calls for capasitors of assorted varietys with the little backwards "u"
one of the parts calls for a 1UF (capitol U). is this a type error or does this have a different value?

Recommend a good OD to mate up with my Mudbunny for that sweet, sweet Gilmour tone.
Anybody have a PCB for a Tube Works clone?

Open Discussion / Crazy Question
November 21, 2013, 03:35:33 PM
I ordered some Epiphone 57 pickups for a mod im doing. I assume the Gibson wire color code is the same as Epis. So when the pickups came I went to the ole Seymour web page and it says red/white  green/black so I pull out the dmm and it was a no go. after a while I realize that these are red/green  black/white. seeing that these have the covers on its VERY hard to test for polarity with the screwdriver trick. Any ideas ???

Question #2
I bought this cool coil filter mod https://www.guitarelectronics.com/c=k1wEo09gRo1HLBIkLuK72ARjK/s=WWW.guitarelectronics.com/product/PMT-HCP/HCP-Humbucker-Control-Pot-w-Coil-Filters.html
It calls for both screw poles to be in the south position. This kind of breaks the Gibson rule of one north and one south.
Do you think I will have any problems with these pickups? Maybe I should just go to walmart and buy a cheap compass

Im playing around with inkscape. Feel like a lost little kid. Way to much to take in on a single sitting and that's where the headache comes in. While playing around, I was clicking on the fonts trying to find the "Madbean" font that everybody uses on builds. What is it and where do I get it ?

I want to build a tremolo but that's where the fun only begins. I want it to also have a momentary switch so if its not on I can tap it for little small fills that have trails and get back to the other playing. Can this be done ? Any ideas would be helpful

As if I have enough hobbys. I recently got into buying up Squiers and modding them. Lots of fun and very addictive. LOL now I got 3 on the bench. Anybody else into this ?

Open Discussion / Saddles
August 07, 2013, 04:22:33 PM
Ok so I got my new Mexican strat tremolo (massive block difference ! LOL)
But the saddles that came with it look like crap. They look like a machine was stamping out these noodly things by the millions. Anybody have any feedback on them ? At least my old Squier ones look like a solid chunk of metal. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Maybe its just me, but Id think a solid saddle would ring better.

Ive been shopping on ebay for a swollen pickle and I noticed 2 different finishes. the painted ones and ones that look like transparent paint on a brushed enclosure. Is there fakes out there ? old vs new model ? any info would be cool
