Death by Audio Fuzz War clone help
« on: April 20, 2017, 02:10:25 PM »
Hey guys, I'm having some issues with the Fuzz War clone that I'm trying to build. I've done my best to follow along with the debugging guidelines so here goes:

Problem: Guitar signal appears to be passing through the circuit however it is not fuzzy/distorted. It's a perfectly clean signal that gets louder when twisting volume and drive pot and brighter/warmer when fiddling with the tone pot. I've tried with and without wiring it up to the daughterboard because at first I thought I had perhaps just been using dodgy crocodile clips or had a wire going to the wrong place when testing the circuit originally.

I've double checked and the components all seem to be in the right place and orientation (I could be wrong) and I dont think there is any solder bridges as I can't see any and I've scratched between as many solders as is possible due to pcb mounted pots so I'm totally stumped as to what the problem might be (note: I'm a total noob at this. It's only my second pedal).

Name of Project: Raw Fuzz (Death by Audio Fuzz War Clone) from Fuzz Dog - http://shop.pedalparts.co.uk/Raw_Fuzz/p847124_8389179.aspx

Schematic & Layout: http://pedalparts.co.uk/docs/RawFuzz-V2.pdf

Q1
C= 4.34V
B= 0.70V
E= 0.12V

Q2
C= 3.85V
B= 0.62V
E= 0.04V

Q3
C= 4.34V
B= 0.7V
E= 0.13V

Q4
C= 4.3V
B= 1.54V
E= 1.07V

D1
anode= 0.67V
cathode= 0.67V

D2
anode= 0.67V
cathode= 0.67V

I've got a couple of images of the board here too, excuse the quality!

Hopefully one of you guys will be able to tell me what's up but if any more info about the build is needed, let me know and I'll do my best to provide it. I'm also pretty new here so let me know if I've broken any rules and I'll sort that too :)

Thanks alot!

I'm not 100% sure but it looks like your diodes are flipped.

Just a thought.

Thanks for having a look!

I'll double check/try them the other way round. It was super hard to see any markings on the casing since they had worn off so you could be right.

I guess the best you can do is to flip one diode if you are not sure about their position. From the schematic you can see that the they are opposite to each other. So if you have placed them both in the same direction you only have to flip one (it doesn't matter which one) I hope you understand what i mean (English is not my first language)
