Ge Fuzz Faces look simple, making a good one is not. Sourcing good transistors with decent HFE/Leakage is a serious issue. If you want to make it actually work well, it's worth spending some time biasing it properly also. There's so few decent Ge transistors around these days that it's simply not worth the effort unless someone lucks upon a stash you can go through with a meter. We did, once. There were well over 100 transistors in it. I think we got about 6 pedals out of it that I'd consider to be really bloody good. It took a lot of effort. Add to that that they tend to require inverted power and don't play nice with buffers or wahs...

Stick to Si for fuzz. There are some really, really good ones out there.
