Looong time in the planning/making, but a huge payoff. Sounds fantastic and gives you the saucer-plate eyes when you goose it with a booster. Wowser.
Followed the build doc and everything went together really smoothly except for a couple minor wiring goofs. (There's a lotta wiring). My main tip is to use the DMM to check each connection isn't grounding out as you solder it just to be sure some little shielding hair isn't touching something it shouldn't.
The light-up toobs are a bit tricky. I took the sockets completely apart to get the center pin out and all pins flew everywhere. Got them back together and epoxied. Stuck LEDs in the sockets and wired them to the heater supply and to the Optoshield and voila - light show!

Just wow :o
Lets hear it!
Damn dude! That's a beauty.
Most impressive man! That etch is a beauty. 8)
Glad you're digging it, you got into the devellopement of that project without even knowing what it would really be like... ...in the hope that it's beyond your expectations ;)
Rej
That's siiiiiiiiiiiiick Jason! 8)
That is over the top! Amazing etch.
Phenomenal, Jason. There's nothing I don't like about this! I believe you about he planning this would have taken.
That is all kinds of bad ass. Nicely done
Oh man! It looks like it was worth all the planning and hard work. Very cool, really digging that etch.
Thanks, guys!
One thing I forgot to mention is how quiet this thing is. No hum, buzz or hiss at all.
wow... just wow... This is an insane build Jason. I hope this is a center piece on your board.. if not, hang that sucker on the wall since its a piece of art.
Cody
Wow! What a beauty you've got there. I love the artwork and the tube protectors are killer! I'm hopeful I will get to build one of these!
Fantastic looking build :)
I have a whole flock of goosebumps right now! This is stunning!
Steve.
Looks awesome Jason. I've got mine populated, just need to find the time to build it.
Where did you get those tube protectors. I've seen some on eBay but they come from China and I have doubts about the quality and finish of those...
Did you trial it so far into poweramp input (bypassing pre amp) or into pre amp of tube amp and how did the volume output work out?

Beautiful, but pricey. I guess, you could DIY them too
That is farking awesome dude! Amazing inside and out!
Thing of beauty 8)
I am impressed!
outstanding :)
love the tube-lights :)
wheres the pcb available? couldnt find it in the grindcustoms store...
btw: i notice people are now into tubes ;) since tube-builds are in, how about a tube vibe? looking forward to such a project :) (guess some peope have it in their minds)
Just stunning! :o I've not even started mine yet.

They're China eBay guards. Took a couple weeks to get here. I knew I'd be building one months ago, so I had time to gather everything. The faceplate was etched a couple months ago.

My amp doesn't have a loop, so I used a 100KA master pot and been running it right into the input/preamp. There's a lot of output available, but it's not drastically more than a lot of other solid state drive boxes I've built.
Beautiful build. Those protectors are great, too. Well done, man.
Great build! Exciting seeing some Tubez light up!!! It will be fun seeing all the build reports trickle through! I gotta get started on mine.

Frequency Central did that a while back with sub mini tubes over on DIYSB. I think it was called the vibra caster or vintage vibe or something like that. I don't know if there was ever a pcb made or anything but I remember multiple layouts and veros for it.
So impressive.
Awwww yiiiissssss.
That is pretty amazing. It's a great effort from top to bottom.
This is sooo cool !
I love the etch background design
doooooooood! It's got tuuuuuuuuuubes! I'd get lost watching the light show. That thing looks awesome. I thought I saw a demo of this somewhere, I need to go find it again.
Arggh.
Been trying to record some sounds for a couple hours and my crappy old laptop is crapped out. No joke - pushing this with my klone or with my modded G2 is the best distorted sound I've ever gotten at home. So. Much. Fun.

I was just about this >.< close to breaking that laptop in half.
That's awesome. Looking forward to seeing lots of these in the coming months.
There's two of the protos here, but with different circuits on them. Should get them boxed up really.
work of art love it
Sweet!

That is some classy etch you got there and the hammertone box makes it justice.
Can't wait to hear the demo.

I'm in Waynesville. About a half hour west of Asheville. Originally from Statesville. I've spent a good bit of time in Wilmington. Love that town!

Cool. I'm originally from Asheville. Miss it. I have a sister who lives out near the Jukebox Junction. Nephew-in-law is Waynesville Police.

Dang Asheville and surrounding area is an all-time favorite of mine. Spent a lot of time mountain biking the Pisgah, Dupont State Forest, Tsali, etc. Planning a trip this summer with my kids.
Crazy, I had a small farm in Bethel less than a half mile from Jukebox Junction. We moved into town a couple of years ago. Asheville is a great town, I can see why you'd miss it. A bit weirder than Wilmington. In a good way. I go to school at AB Tech for EET so I'm in and out of there quite a bit.

We camped this past summer at a great campground called Cheoah Point. It sits on a little peninsula on Lake Santeetlah which is right beside Lake Fontana and Tsali. Very few people there and if you can get the cabins, do it...Very sweet spot.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sick build, love the artwork, tech, finish, interior! Very inspiring (and daunting at the same time), Congrats!
Lordy!
Beautiful build!! One question please: connections on the output jack are Tip only? I can't see the Sleeve/GND connection on the pic...
Cheers
Sono
if you use a metal enclosure like he did in combination with metal-frame jacks (as in without a plastic insulating housing), wiring GND to one jack is enough as the other sleeve is grounded via the enclosure.
Oh I see what you mean. Both jack's GNDs are connected through the enclosure ;)
Thanks
Any idea what those knobs are called? They look cool!! ;)
Cheers
Sono
Was cool to see all the peeps on an old thread that we don't hear from anymore. Makes me feel old for some reason.

I'm pretty sure I got those from Smallbear. Don't know what they're called, but I believe you can sort by aluminum knobs.
These ones?

Great!! ;)
Did you get the shielded cable from Small Bear too?
the shielded wire was supplied with the kit at the time. it's manufactured by Belden, but I can't tell you the specs. I think Rej got it from Mouser
Oh I see. Thanks anyway :)
