Title: Wich filter/phaser is that?
Post by: GrindCustoms on January 16, 2015, 12:35:01 AM
While listening to this album... i realised that i could'nt make that sound... i have a huge array of phasers and filters, usually quite good at nailing effects.. but this time, no.

Anyone knows what Mike is using here:

He used to (at that time) use two Boss PH-2 Super Phasers. You can see them in this photo of his board:

I used to have a PH-6, and with the RES knob (resonance?) cranked, in front of overdrive or distortion, that's the kind of sound you get. In that song though, it's double tracked, the two tracks hard-panned left and right, and they sound to me like they both have the effect on, but are starting at different points of the 'wave'.

That picture actually sheds some other light on the subject. Notice the very unique, very rare DOD FX13 Gonkulator in the shot? I think that had something to do with this elusive sound.

Hmm... there's no BitCrusher in that song tho..., but that's a very cool pedal for sure.. looks like thats what Catalinbread based the Heliotrope back then... reacts the same manner... other that it have a Low/Hi switch.. the Gonkulator being on fixed low.

The more i listen to it... you hear the drive of a filter or it's craking if i can say that is steady through the swooosh of the phaser and if you listen closely you'll hear no bass in the guitar signal. My bet is now on a full toe wah and going into the phaser.

Thanks for the picture, Mc! :D

Yep, fixed wah into phaser is what it is... used a GCB95 stock, almost full travel fixed setting through MP-1 phaser.

Sure, but the guy still has to give a legit render of the studio songs live and he does.
