This is the best sounding version I've heard. Anyone here ever try to make one of these?

Man, that sounds amazing. It doesn't seem heavily gated, so I'm curious how they got the noise level so low.

Edit: I also love how all the comments are like, "I want to pay you for this." The dude spent 5 months building it, as if anyone would actually shell out a fair price for that.

Yes, I am trying make two of those with PMD221 Marantz. He's using PMD430 I believe, the higher end of 3 tape deck!

That's pretty neat. I have a Marantz laying around that I will eventually turn into a tape delay. I'd be worried about stretching tape out using the cv control and a keyboard.

That is awesome. Pretty impressive. He says that his only experience was building pedal kits before

Awesome build! some gut shots would be interesting to see.
How does he fitted the heads?

Just done the EAGLE brd for the Echo-matic. I am following this to re-create the PCB

I think the way he boxed it using Cigar box/enclosure. It looks a huge board/effect.

When I get around to building mine, I was thinking about designing a PCB that would better fit the battery compartment since that is where most people put the controls on the top of the tape deck. I haven't done any measurements for it, but I would think it could be doable with board mounted pots too.

a 3 head tape deck is really expensive!

would love to start from scratch and add the heads from different players.
It doesn't need to play a tape, just a short band right?.

I'll measure the battery enclosure size tonight. I'll post here and update the Eagle files. Also, keep in mind, there are several mods toward it. The one I'm closely looking is to implement the Baxandall, just like that YouTube guy.

@thomas
Multiplex Echo from 1776 is close enough to do this. If you really want to start from scratch, you might want to create a new motor driver for the third deck. That is doable but more effort to build. The tape works as a playback device.

Also, another thing I hate about this Marantz, it's running 4.5V, so it needs the regulator. Not sure, it'll work with 5V(78L05). Technically, it should work. Any idea, guys?

Here's mine :

After that video, i found a metal iv tape and sounds is better. Cooool sounds !
I think i'll buy anoter record head and place it further from play head to get longer delays.

Curcuit is made on a veroboard, fitted in the battery compartement. Power taken from the regulated supply of the marantz.
